R4 Blossom

This pattern describes how to make blossom flowers and buds. It is an extra to the
twig pattern which is available separately. The green bits in the picture are
embroidered lichen/moss.

You will need:


a knitted twig • two shades of double knit yarn (1 light, 1 dark) • toy stuffing
4 x double ended knitting needles (3mm) • tapestry needle • scissors

Pattern (Flower):

Cast on 3 stitches in the dark shade of Separate these stitches onto three needles
yarn. I-cord 7 rows. and join into the round and continue as
follows:
Take the yarn around the back of the
knitting again as for i-cord, work as Round 10: [sl1, kfb] x 5 (15)
follows: Round 11: [k1, kfb, k1] x 5 (20)
Round 12: [sl1, kfb, kfb, k1] x 5 (30)
Row 8: kfb, kfb, k1 (5) Round 13: [sl1, k1, kfb, kfb, k2] x 5 (40)

Reverse direction as though you intend to Cast off all stitches slipping the first of

Making Up:

Lose three of the loose ends of yarn by threading them down the i-cord stem and trimming. Use the
forth end to sew the flower/bud to a twig. Some blossoming trees have flowers spread out along the
twigs. Some have the flowers bunched tightly together in groups. It's up to you which you think
looks better.

The moss lichen is composed of tightly clustered French knots done in two very similar shades of
green.

Notes:

Abbreviations

[ ] x number Repeat the section in square brackets the required number of times.
(number) Gives the total number of stitches you should have on needle by the end of the row.
k– Knit every stitch to the end of the row.
k number Knit this number of stitches
kfb Knit into the front and then the back of a single stitch (+1 stitch).
k2tog Knit the next two stitches together (-1 stitch).
sl1 Slip the next stitch purl wise.
sts Stitches.

Needle/Yarn Size

As with most ODDknit patterns the yarn and needle sizes in the "you will need" section are just a guide. Feel free to
improvise with whatever needles and yarn you have lying around - that's half the fun!
