maintenance of social interaction .It is funded by social services organisations
and philantrophists.Social care infrastructure has four parts:

many types of healthcare free to Uk residents.
The patients have rights relating to healthcare ,including the right to give or
withhold consent for treatment .They also have the right to information and to
access their medical records .
Patients have the right to choose between healthcare options .They can select their
GP practce, doctor, nurse, and choose to change hospitals .
People with a primary health need (who are not in a hospital)are eligible for
continuing healthcare (CHC)because their main need relates to their health

SOCIAL CARE OVERVIEW:-
*The local authority provided social care services to those requiring help and
support due to illness,age,or disability.
*The first step is a needs assessment .This allows the local authority to
understand an individual's care and support needs .They can then make an informed
decision about a person's eligibility .
*To receive a social care support ,a person's needs must meet the eligibility
criteria .The local authority will determine how their condition affects their
daily life, abilities and needs for support .
*If they are eligible ,the local authority will plan an applicant's care and
support with their input
*There are different ways that needs can be met ,such as accommodation ,counselling
and residential care and support .A person has the right to receive payments to
sort out their own care .
*The local authority will access the user's financial circumstances .Then lets them
determine whether they should make a contribution .
*The local authority has a legal duty to provide safeguarding (protecting a
person's right to live in safety .)If they believe someone is at risk ,they will
make enquiries to decide the appriopriate action .
*If necessary ,a local authority must provide an advocate .An advocate ensures that
an individual understands their right and can express their views and wishes .
*You may have the carer's right to social support .This also requires an assessment
and for the local authority to create a support plan .
*A patient has the right to complain if they are dissatisfied with their health or
social care service .
SOCIAL CARE NEEDS ASSESSMENT :-
What is a SOCIAL CARE NEEDS ASSESSMENT :
A needs assessment is the first step in receiving any social care .This is provided
by the local authority ,and its purpose is to gain an understanding of the care and
support needs .This helps them determine eligibility .
Regardless of financial circumstances ;a patient cannot be charged for any needs
assessment .
WHEN MUST THE LOCAL AUTHORITY ASSESS ?
If an adult appears to need care and support ,the local authority has a legal duty
to assess them .They may beleive that a person needs care and support because :
*They informed social services
*Someone else informed social services
*They were reffered to social services
If someone needs care and support in the future ,they can request a need assessment
.It is their local authority's responsibility to prevent their needs for care and
support from increasing .
Even if a patient's needs for care and support appear low ,their local authority
still must assess them .
WHO PROVIDES SOCIAL CARE :-
Providing social care and support is the responsibility of a local
authority(sometimes called council).
Local authorities may provide these services ,pay private companies for them or
make direct payments to a patient for purchasing services .
HEALTH CARE VS SOCIAL CARE
There is no legal distinction between health and social care .These areas are often
closely connected .
Healthcare tends to refer to treatment ,disease prevention /control ,illness, injury
or disability .It is concerned with the care or aftercare of someone with these
needs .
Social care is viewed as a providing support with the activities of daily living
(feeding, washing, dressing mobility). It also covers areas such as maintaining
independence and safeguarding .
In terms of delivery ,health care is provided by the National Health Service or by
private providers.Social care services are run or provided by local authorities .
