INFO AND TIPS

The short rows are made using the German Short Rows method:
Knit to where you need to turn your work, turn and *sl1p(f). Lead the yarn behind the work and
pull so that a double stitch occurs – one st becomes 2 sts*
*_*= GSR
When you are going to knit over the sts again, the double sts are knit together, either knitwise or
purlwise according to what the st shows.
It can be a good idea to mark where the turn sts are. It makes it easier to count and you won’t miss
the st when you knit on.

Yoke
Cast on 59 (61) 67 (69) 73 sts on needle no. 4 (3.5 mm).
Knit 1x1 ribbing on the next 6 rows. First row is WS: (p1, k1) + p1, but knit a button hole on first RS
row before the last 2 sts like this:

Vertical button hole:

1. Row (RS): Knit to the last 2 sts, yo x2, k2tog.
2. Row (WS): p1, p the first yo and let the next yo fall, k across.
3. Row (RS): Knit to the last 2 sts, k1 st through the button hole, let next st fall, k last st.

Knit all in all 6 (6) 8 (9) 10 button holes like this. Place the bottom button hole 0.2” (0.5 cm) from
the bottom of the cardigan and the remaining in between with approx. 1.6” (4 cm) in between
them.

When you’ve knit all 6 rows of ribbing, switch to needle no. 6 (4 mm) and place marker as below.
Notice that from now on, you are going to knit the first/last 5 sts on each side as edge sts.The edge
sts are all the way through the work knitted in ribbing as before.

WS: 5 e sts, place mk, p 6 (6) 8 (8) 9 (right front), place mk, p1 (raglan), place mk, p 5 (6) 6 (6) 6 (right
sleeve), place mk, p1, (raglan), place mk, p 23 (23) 25 (27) 29 (back), place mk, p1 (raglan), place mk,
p 5 (6) 6 (6) 6 (left sleeve), place mk, p1 (raglan), place mk, p 6 (6) 8 (8) 9 (left front), place mk, 5 e
sts.

Knit short rows on the next row. Meanwhile you start making the raglan increases.
The short rows are made using the German Short Rows method:
Knit to where you need to turn your work, turn and *sl1p(f). Lead the yarn behind the work and
pull so that a double stitch occurs – one st becomes 2 sts*
*_* = GSR
When you are going to knit over the sts again, the double sts are knit together, either knitwise or
purlwise according to what the st shows.
It can be a good idea to mark where the turn sts are. It makes it easier to count and you won’t miss
the st when you knit on.

Short rows and increases for raglan:

1. Row (RS): 5 e sts, k 6 (6) 8 (8) 9, Inc r, k1 (raglan-st), Inc l, k 5 (6) 6 (6) 6, Inc r, k1 (raglan-st), Inc l, k
23 (23) 25 (27) 29, Inc r, k1 (raglan-st), Inc l, k 5 (6) 6 (6) 6, Inc r, k1 (raglan-st), Inc l, k2, turn, GSR.
2. Row (WS): P to the last 9 (9) 11 (11) 12h sts, turn, GSR.
3. Row (RS): K and inc as before, to 2 sts after last turn on RS, turn, GSR.
4. Row (WS): P to 2 sts after last turn on WS, turn, GSR.
5. Row (RS): K and inc as before, to 1 (1) 2 (2) 2 sts after last turn on RS, turn, GSR.
6. Row (WS): P to 1 (1) 2 (2) 2 st after last turn on WS, turn, GSR.
7. Row (RS): K and inc as before, to 1 (1) 2 (2) 2 st after last turn on RS, turn, GSR.
8. Row (WS): P to 1 (1) 2 (2) 2 st after last turn on WS, turn, GSR.
9. Row (RS): K and inc to raglan across.

You’ve now turned 4 times on each side and knitted 5 rows all in all with inc to raglan.
You need to knit another 9 (10) 11 (12) 13 rows with inc to raglan = all in all 14 (15) 16 (17) 18 rows
with inc to raglan.
The increases are knitted on the RS-rows. Finish with a WS-row = 171 (181) 195 (205) 217.
When all the increases are knitted, on the next row (RS), separate for sleeves like this:

Separate for sleeves

Knit to 1st sleeve-st and place the 33 (36) 38 (40) 42 sleeve-sts on a strand of left over yarn.
Cast on 4 (5) 6 (6) 6 new sts under the sleeve. Knit to next sleeve and do the same here =
113 (119) 131 (137) 145 sts on the needle.
Knit stockinette st until the work measures 7.9” (8.3”) 9.8” (11.8”) 12.2” or 20 (21) 25 (30) 31 cm
from the top of the shoulder and down.
Now knit in pattern instead of stockinette st. Notice that the e sts are still knit in ribbing like
before.
Knit until the pattern piece measures approx. 2.4” (2.7”) 3.1” (3.1”) 3.5” or 6 (7) 8 (8) 9 cm and you
are about to knit row no. 3 of the pattern.
Cast off in ribbing.

Pattern:
1. Row (RS): *k1, sl1p(b)* repeat *_* to last st, k1.
2. Row (WS): *k1, sl1p(f)* repeat *_* to last st, k1.
3. Row (RS): k across.
4. Row (WS): p across.

Sleeves
Place the 33 (36) 38 (40) 42 sleeve-sts on to a needle no. 6 (4 mm) and cast on 4 (5) 6 (6) 6 new sts
under the sleeve = 37 (41) 44 (46) 48 sts on the round.
Place a mk in the middle (or on each side of the center st), this now marks the beginning of the
round.
Knit around in stockinette st until the work measures 0.8” (2 cm). Now decrease for the first timer.

Size 6 months decreases like this:

k2tog, knit to last 3 sts, (Sl1, k1, psso), k1 (the marked st).

The remaining sizes decrease like this:

k1, k2tog, knit to last 3 sts, (Sl1, k1, psso), k1.
Continue decreasing like this all in all 2 (3) 4 (5) 5 times with 2½” (1.9”) 1.6” (1.4”) 1.6” or 6.5 (5) 4
(3.5) 4 cm space = 33 (35) 36 (36) 38 sts on round.
Knit until the sleeve measures 6½” (7”) 7.9” (8.3”) 9.4” or 16 (18) 20 (21) 24 cm. Switch to needle no.
4 (3.5 mm) and knit ribbing (k1, p1), please do note that sizes 3 months and (6 months) have to
knit the first 2 tog kw so there is 32 (34) sts on the round. Knit ribbing for 0.8” (2 cm) and cast off in
ribbing.

Knit the other sleeve just the same.

Assembling
Weave in all ends and sew up under the sleeves. Sew in 6 (6) 8 (9) 10 buttons in the one side of the
button band. Wash according to directions on the yarn and lay flat to dry while you stretch the
grafted piece a little so it opens up.

Happy knitting!
