1. Procedure

A. This section lists all function codes and provides a description for each function code.
(1) The function code is identified by a three-digit number which defines the maintenance function being performed.
(2) The major categories of the function codes are:
000 up to 099 Removal
100 up to 199 Cleaning
200 up to 299 Inspection/Checks
300 up to 399 Repair
400 up to 499 Installation
500 up to 599 Material handling
600 up to 699 Servicing/Preserving/Lubricating

B. Function code range 000 up to 099: Removal

000 |REMOVE

001 |The removal task is related to the associated installation task

|(Refer to function codes 400 and 401).

010 |REMOVE/OPEN FOR ACCESS

|Remove or open a panel, door, component, etc. to gain access.

040 |DEACTIVATE

|Deactivation of a system in accordance with the MMEL by maintenance

|action.

C. Function code range 100 up to 199: Cleaning

|General.

110 |CHEMICAL

|Use chemical agent(s) to clean. Includes preparation of the

|chemical.

120 |ABRASIVE

|Remove unwanted materials with wet/dry particle impingement.

130 |ULTRASONIC

|Remove unwanted surface material and other materials caught in the

|surface using high-frequency sound.

140 |MECHANICAL

|Remove unwanted materials with a brush, lint-free cloth or other

|mechanical procedure.

|Flush unwanted material through and out of a component or system

|with fluid.

D. Function code range 200 up to 299: Inspection/Check

|General.

210 |GENERAL VISUAL

|Full inspection to find structural damage, failure, deterioration,

|and give the proper corrective maintenance procedure if necessary.

220 |DETAILED DIMENSIONAL

|Inspect dimensions, conditions, or indications of. Compare with

|specifications in the original design documentation to decide

|whether further maintenance is required. Includes checks of

|indicators and other readouts to confirm that a value is within

|limits.

230 |PENETRANT

|Find surface cracks with dye penetrant techniques.

240 |MAGNETIC

|Find surface cracks in material by means of magnetic fields.

250 |EDDY CURRENT

|Use electromagnetic waves to find cracks, porosity, small openings,

|unwanted materials.

260 |X-RAY/HOLOGRAPHIC

|To find cracks, porosity, small openings, unwanted materials.

270 |ULTRASONIC

|Repair leaks (except by application of sealants/compounds - see

|Application of primer and top coat to any area. Includes surface

|pre-treatment and cleaning, mixing, application and curing.

711 |An Operational test verifies that a system or component is operable,

720 |FUNCTIONAL

|A functional test verifies that a system or component is functioning

|within the minimum design specifications. This test is more detailed

|than an operational test and may require special test equipment.

|Values and tolerances must be specified. Can include BITE functions.

730 |SYSTEM

|Contains all specifications and tolerances necessary to insure that

|systems and their components are performing at maximum design

|efficiency. The test must be sufficient to detect early signs of

|wear, deterioration, and calibration drift. The test may require

|special test equipment. Values and tolerances must be specified. The

|test is self-contained and may duplicate another test. Can include

|BITE functions.

|Bonding test only.

780 |PRESSURE

|Establishes the ability of a normally pressurized system or

|component to operate properly.

|Make sure a system or component does not leak or does so within

|specified limits.
