        3.      CONCEPTUALIZATION
        To start this manuscript, we have to understand what the word “hobby” means.
According to Ministry of Social Development (2016), highlights that there is no a specific
definition of this term. By the reason of, each person, depending on their culture, has a different
idea of the meaning of “hobby”. However, when people think about leisure activities, they
automatically bring to memory their favorite free time activity, known as hobby. According to
Daily (2018), people from New Zealand consider leisure activities as a necessary element for
good lifestyle. They think that these activities let them to forget all the stress of life. The hobbies
vary according to each person. But, the most common ones are outdoor activities.
        In contrast to Ecuador, people prefer having fun with activities that show their cultural
heritage, but it also depend on different factors such as: age, gender, and in the time in which
they live (Chávez, 2014).
        4.      WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM YOUR TOPIC
        In this topic, we learn about many activities that people in New Zealand practice in
their free time, such as outdoor activities like hiking in parks or mountains, cycling on
Queenstown Trail, a specific are for cycling, camping in natural areas, traveling with family

within the country and water sports like kayak, surf and fishing in the sea or rivers all lof
which are popular among extroverted people. New Zealanders love playing instruments and
going to concerts like the Rhythm and Vines. They enjoy arts and crafts like painting,
sculpture, tissue, and more. Many popular films were made in New Zealand such as The Lord
of the Rings, Avatar, and The Hobbit. Also, they practice rugby, cricket, soccer, and netball in
a sports center. They also practice indoor activities like yoga, meditation in cities like
Wellington or Auckland, play board games, and video games which are more popular among
teenagers. For people in New Zealand is important to practice volunteering to help people,
and it is a national culture there. But in Ecuador, there are many popular activities, such as
biking, visiting beaches and tourist sites, people play volleyball, basketball, and the most
popular soccer. Ecuadorian people love dancing and going to popular parties to enjoy. Finally,
culture in each country reflects its traditions and the way of having fun differently, but this is
what makes us unique.
       5.      CONCLUSIONS
              In conclusion New Zealand and Ecuador are very different. This presentation
shows every single culture has their own ways of having fun. This is because in each country
is difficult to find the same conditions. So people tend to look for satisfying their needs and one
of them is to entertain. For instance, in Ecuador there are beautiful beaches, so people take
advantage of them and go there. But in New Zealand there are many mountains, so people go
hiking. People have the ability to adapt to their environment.
              Finally, hobbies help people build a healthy environment and develop useful
skills, which are going to contribute to have a balanced society. Where individuals are not only
full with responsibilities, but can also enjoy their lives and promote their creativity. So, it does

not matter what country you come from, because this is an applicable principle for everyone.
This presentation give some examples, showing that New Zealand hobbies and Ecuador hobbies
are recreational and also contribute positively to society.
               Hobbies or free time activities are an important part of our identity. What people
do, say or how they spend their spare time reflects the characteristics of their culture. Everyone
is like an open book, which anyone can read. And people use those facts to deduce conclusions
about others. For example, if someone’s leisure activity is swimming others assume that the
person loves sports. This may not be true, but that is how they are perceived.
