Q. No.1. Refer to Unit 6. In literary discourse, grammatical patterns can be

“bent and broken” to achieve some special purpose. Poets make use of
“poetic license” to deviate from standard grammar and they do so to
foreground certain themes. Sometimes they use very orthodox
grammar to highlight / exaggerate what they have in their mind.

Select a poem that provides you deviant use of language. Identify how
the language of the poem is deviant from the standard language.
Identify the deviant sentences. Highlight the words, phrases or clauses
that deviate from the standard grammar, and re-write each example in
the standard grammar to reveal how the poetic language was different
from the standard language.

Q. No. 2 Refer to Unit 7. Literary discourse is different from ordinary discourse.

Poets make use of archaic words to convey meaning. These words
have certain stylistic value. Sometimes, they use words in a flexible
way such as using nouns as verbs, and so on.

Select an English poem of appropriate length that provides you enough

material about unique poetic diction and the use of metaphors.
Highlight how it makes use of the poetic diction / figurative language /
metaphors to convey noble thoughts. (Unlike Q. No. 1, your focus in
this question is ‘diction’ rather than the ‘syntax’ of poetry.)
