Personal Experience in Texas

• Which part of Texas do you live in, and how would you
describe it?
-I am from Dallas, but lived in Austin the past 4 years. Austin is
apart of geographic location known as “Hill Country” by Texans.
It is known for its hill and rivers the more west you go. It is also
known as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” because of its
vast music scene. Austin is very outdoorsy. People hike and bike
along Lady Bird Lake, swim in the Barton Springs Pool, or head
to Zilker Park for some sunshine and skyline views. It’s a young
demographic hotspot due to the University of Texas, vibes from
previous description, and booming tech hubs.
• What’s your favorite memory from a road trip in Texas?
-I always enjoyed driving back and forth from Austin to Dallas. I
loved stopping at Buccee’s, a Texan gas station favorite, and at
West Station and Slovacek’s. At West and Slovacek’s, they are
known for some of the best kolaches in the state.

2. Local Culture & Atmosphere

• What makes your city or region unique compared to other
parts of Texas?
-I would use the answers from question 1. The music scene,
food, tech hub, university, hill country, outdoor nature, young
demographic all distiguishes the city from others. Austin
emobodies the “Keep Austin Weird” slogan for these reasons,
but mainly because they emphasize and support the small
business to full extents. No other city in Texas supports the
small business like Austin does, which is why it’s so great. There
are so many small food businesses, bars, clubs, and more.
• Are there any local traditions or festivals that are
important where you live?
-Yes, South by Southwest (SXSW) and Austin City Limits (ACL).
• How would you describe the people in your area?
-Young, lively, and caring.

3. Hidden Gems & Must-Sees

• What’s a “hidden gem” in Texas that most tourists miss?
- Shoal Creek Greenbelt
• What’s your favorite nature spot or scenic place in Texas?
-Barton Creek or Zilker Park
• What Texan food or restaurant would you recommend to
someone on a road trip?
-Barbecue (BBQ) at Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, TX (45 minutes
west of Austin)

4. Music, Sounds & Vibes

• What kind of music do you often hear in your area?
-Every Genre you can imagine
• Are there any local artists or music festivals you’re proud
of?
-Yes, I love ACL.

5. Reflection & Identity

• What does “being a Texan” mean to you?
-Everything is bigger and better in Texas, and I wear that
proudly! Every I’ve been outside of Texas or USA – when people
ask where I am from and I say Texas, their faces and reactions
are always the best.
