Kabaddi - Practical File (PRACTICAL-3)

1. History of the Game of Kabaddi

Kabaddi is a traditional Indian sport that dates back more than 4,000 years. It is believed to have originated in

Tamil Nadu, where it was played as a physical training activity. The game gained popularity across India and

later became recognized internationally. The Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) was formed in

1973, and kabaddi was included in the Asian Games in 1990.

2. Important Information Regarding Kabaddi

Kabaddi is a contact team sport played between two teams of seven players. The objective is for a 'raider' to

enter the opposing team's half, tag one or more defenders, and return to their half without being tackled. All

this must be done in a single breath while chanting 'Kabaddi'. It is played both indoors and outdoors and

includes styles like Standard and Circle kabaddi.

3. Basic Rules of Kabaddi

- Each team consists of 7 players on the field and 5 substitutes.

- The match is played in two halves, each of 20 minutes (with a 5-minute break).

- A raider must chant "Kabaddi" while attempting to tag opponents.

- Tagged players are out and must leave the field.

- One point is awarded for each opponent tagged.

- If all opponents are out, the team scores an additional 2 points (All Out).

- Defenders can earn points by tackling the raider.

- The team with the most points at the end wins.

4. Court/Ground Dimension of Kabaddi

- Standard Court Dimensions:

- Men: 13 meters (length) × 10 meters (width)

- Women: 12 meters (length) × 8 meters (width)

- The court is divided into two halves with a midline.

- Important markings include the baulk line, bonus line, and lobbies.

5. Skills of the Game of Kabaddi

- Raiding Skills: Running hand touch, toe touch, side kick, jump, roll, dubki (duck dive).

- Defensive Skills: Chain tackle, ankle hold, thigh hold, waist hold, block, dive.

- Additional Skills: Agility, breath control, timing, and strategy.

6. Terminologies of the Game of Kabaddi

- Raider: The player who enters the opponent's half to tag players.

- Antis: Defending team players.

- Baulk Line: The line that the raider must cross to make a valid raid.

- Bonus Line: A line used to score extra points under certain conditions.

- All Out: When all players of one team are out.

- Super Raid: A raid where a raider tags 3 or more opponents.

- Super Tackle: A tackle by 3 or fewer defenders that gets the raider out.
