Selected after trials by the British military f or its “Fly away ” pack, used on the
Power Supplies & APU/GPU’s

Ly nx Mk 3, Mk 7, Mk 8 and Mk 9 helicopters. Designed as a portable single

unit f or helicopters and small shaft turboprop engines starting where high peak
amps and longer start cycles demand greater power cell capacity than the
GPU 1500. The GPU 2000 can also be coupled in parallel to double its capac-
ity . A simple parallel y oke will instantly connect two GPU 2000’s to become

 IBS18 (Integrated Battery System)
The IBS18 is a new concept combining in one compact bat-

tery system, a conv entional high discharge sealed lead acid

aircraf t battery with a miniaturized 28v DC Power Supply
module and battery charger. The combined unit, while oper-
ating as the main or standby on-board battery during flight,
has the added ability when on the ground, to be connected
directly to any 100 or 220v, 50/50 Hz domestic AC supply
and to deliver up to 40 amps of continuous power @ 28v DC
f or av ionics programming, maintenance training, diagnostics
or supply to power on-board systems during turnarounds.
Prev iously, a separate GPU or DC supply was required f or
ram or hangar service. Now, it is only necessary to access
the battery and insert a standard IEC female mains connec-
tor into the special mains input socket mounted on the fron
of the battery, adjacent to the battery disconnect. With
mains power connected, a solid state digital voltmeter auto-
matically activates to conf irm the output v oltage. LEDs indi-
cate the operating status of the miniaturized power supply
module. For reliability and redundancy, the CD power sup-
ply operates as two f ully independent 20 amp (max) circuits,
each with its own IEC socket. A “push-to-view” button al-
lows the aircraft operator or technicians to accurately check
the v oltage of the battery when not connected to the external
mains. This useful features allows operator to monitor the
batter voltage while the aircraft is on the ground without hav -
ing to access the cockpit. When not connected to a mains
supply , a “watchdog” timer shuts off the voltmeter after ap-
proximately 5 minutes to conserv e power.

This unique range of 28 v olt portable

GPUs has been dev eloped to prov ide
more spool-up watts on starter engage-
ment for larger turbine aircraft and helicopters fitted with v oltage sensitiv e
Fadec systems, or heav ier-current-drawing shaft turbines and turbo-prop
aircraf t, thus shortening start times and lowering start temperatures. Addi-
tionally , this latest system in the new CoolSpool range of portable GPUs
has an integral charging and continuous grand power systems, able to de-
liv er up to 40 amps of continuous C power @ 28.5-29 v olts, for avionics
work, shop maintenance, diagnostics, training or demonstrations.
All the CoolSpool models use matched cells to raise the voltage. Using
their unique “power maximizer circuit”, the GPU 26 and 52 can be voltage
boosted via a 110 or 220v AC mains input to their maximum starting v olt-
age, simply by selecting the power boost switch. Voltage will be raise to
just below the upper Fadec limit as indicated on the solid state v oltmeter. CoolSpool 26
At peak starter engagement on a medium turbine, this can result in almost
9% more power or with a 1300 amp starter engagement, more than 3200
watts of extra power compared with some other 28 v olt packs.
For operators demanding more power, typically through an aircraft up-
grade, the CoolSpool 26 can be updated simply by adding the upgrade
module with is inserted between the upper and lower CoolSpool 26 module
to double its turbine starting capacity to 52 amp/hrs.

 Scamm’r
The Scamm’r is a self -contained air-mobile, modular, multi-role

Power Supplies & APU/GPU’s

GPU system comprised of a gasoline or diesel-driven generea-
tor supplying 110/220v single phase AC power driv ing a vari-
ety of optional GPUs and/or power supplies which deliv ers 28v
DC f or continuous avionics use. When fitted with optional APS
1500/40 Powerv amp GPU packs, the unit provides regular
turbine starting power or very high amp for short durations with
GPUs being continuously recharged via its power supply. The
unit disassembles in seconds and f eatures indiv idual modules
that allow stand-alone v ersatility. With generator shutdown
the system can run from AC mains supply f or hangar use.
This highly versatile mobile generator model enables a range
of standard Powerv amp products to be instantly installed into
the wheeled f rame thus turning the complete unit into a mini,
lightweight, self -contained, air mobile, modular multi-role GPU
(Scamm’r). The v arious options within the GPUs and Power
Supplies allow operators to match the maximum output power
or continuous amps to their requirements. The Scamm’r is
ideal f or flight line ops, ab initio training, hangar maintenance
or remote airf ield operations. A key feature of the units is that f or use in conf ined areas or
work shops the gasoline or diesel engine can be shut down and a 110/220v AC line can
be plugged into the unit to allow the GPUs or power supplies to continue to operate as if
the engine was running. Engine options include the Honda EC6000 gasoline unit with
6KVA generator or the Y anmar L100 Diesel with 7.5 kw generator.
