MAINTENANCE MANUAL

CORROSION STANDARD PRACTICES — CLEANING / PAINTING


1. Corrosion Inhibiting Compound — Cleaning
NOTE: This procedure provides instruction for the removal of Type VI corrosion inhibiting compounds
Mastinox and Cor-Ban 27L.
Cor-Ban 27L is amber / tan in color. Mastinox is yellow / mustard in color.
Mastinox and Cor-Ban 27L can not be mixed.
Type VI corrosion inhibiting compound should always be applied to clean surfaces.
A. Preparation

(a) Prepare aircraft for safe ground maintenance.
B. Procedure
NOTE: The following procedure provides instruction for the removal of corrosion inhibiting
compound from material. Parts and application area must be visually inspected for current
type of corrosion inhibiting compound being applied.
(1) Clean parts for any of the following reasons:
• Applied compound is different color than new compound to be applied
• Discoloration of current applied compound
• Unable to positively confirm current applied compound
(2) Identify part / component material construction to be cleaned.
(3) Determine compatible solvent for part / component / assembly. See Prevention of Corrosion,
20-50-00, Servicing, Surface Cleaning Solvents Table.
(4) Remove corrosion inhibiting compound by wiping with clean cloth hand wiper, scrubbing or
other physical means (nonmetallic bristle brush).
(5) Clean surfaces by one or more of the following methods, repeating as necessary:

REQUIREMENTS RELATED TO THEIR USE. SAFETY DATA SHEETS
SHALL BE CONSULTED FOR ALL MATERIALS TO DETERMINE THE
MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERNING
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE PRECAUTIONS. IT IS THE SOLE
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE USER TO ENSURE PROTECTION FROM
INJURY OR EXPOSURE, SAFE APPLICATION OF MATERIALS AND
COMPLIANCE WITH ANY FEDERAL, STATE OR LOCAL REGULATIONS
REGARDING THE USE OF ANY OF THE MATERIALS SPECIFIED.
(a) Wet surface and cloth hand wiper with solvent or cleaner.
(b) Wipe surface with cloth wipe, followed by a clean cloth wipe while surface is still wet.
(c) Spray or flow solvent onto surface to assist in cleaning or rinsing.
(d) Rub surface to be cleaned with solvent soaked cloth wipe.
NOTE: Do not allow solvent to evaporate to dryness.
(e) Change out soiled cloth wipe frequently for a clean one.
(f) Continue cleaning parts that show visible contamination or discolorations on cloth.
(g) Repeat Step 1.B.(5)(a) thru Step 1.B.(5)(f) until part meets cleanliness acceptance
criteria.
C. Follow On
(1) Inspect for presence of foreign objects.
(2) Protect parts from dust, fingerprints and / or other contamination.
(3) Record all maintenance actions in accordance with current governing authority.
