WHAT IS A RECORD OF WORK BOOK?


 Documentation of Learning: An official document used by teachers to keep a systematic
account or daily entries of all teaching/learning activities in a specific class within a given
school year.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RECORD OF WORK BOOK


TO THE TEACHERS
 It indicates the work done by the teacher.
 It provides for continuity for the old as well as the new tteacher.
 I t helps the teacher to easily recognise problem areas after evaluation of the students, hence
easing remedial lessons.
 I t acts as a defence or cover for the teacher.

TO THE INSPECTOR
• It provides a good background for the appreciation of a teacher by the inspector even in the
absence of the teacher.
TO THE ADMINISTRATION
 It provides a good follow up of a teacher in terms of hour and work coverage.
 It enables the administration to know the teacher’s input, when and how it has been done
thereby helping them to fill the teacher’s mark sheet.
 The record of work book enables the VP / Dean of studies to check if a teacher is effectively
teaching or not.
 It gives the teacher credit at all levels because it shows how practical, professional, assiduous
and serious he/she is.
 The record of work book provides a good basis for the proposals for the duty posts for the
teacher.
 It helps the VP to calculate work coverage of every teacher.

WHAT TO DO, FIRST DAY IN CLASS


 Welcome and orientation (self introduction)

 Remind students of the prescribed text and exercise books
 Establish classroom rules and expectations (code of conduct) / consequences of breaking rules
 A diagnostic evaluation (evaluation of previous knowledge, skills, and values of the discipline
to know learners’ background knowledge or their strength and weaknesses with regards to is
intended to be taught.)
 Inspire learners by sharing with them the importance of your subject to them
WHAT WE FIND IN THE RECORD OF WORKBOOK
The following elements should feature on the first page assigned per teacher:
 Teacher’s name and qualification
 Syllabus coverage progression sheet.
 Records of work covered (lessons taught, the didactic sequences of the lesson, assignments,
projects, tests, and other educational activities.
 Teacher’s signature.

 Signature of vice principal or dean of studies for monitoring and follow up purposes

HOW TO FILL
 Write date and day the lesson is taught e.g. 09/09/2024
 State the period. e.g. 9.00-09.50
 Fill the work done according to CBA format.
 Module 1, 2 etc.
 Lesson number and title
 Justification of the lesson
 The didactic sequences of the lesson + instructional methodology used per didactic sequence.
 Record assignments given, and due dates
 Record results from tests, and other assessments.
 Mention projects given to students.
 Fill in public holidays and any official celebrations that coincide with your period.
 Fill the record of workbook in class and not in the staff room.
 Fill the record of workbook at the end of the lesson and not not at the beginning.

 Attach copies of your assessments

WHAT TO DO
• Rule a straight line after filling in your lesson of the day. This makes the record of work book
look neat, presentable and easy to read.
• Write your name and sign in the reserved column to support all entries.
• keep the record of work book in good condition and up-to-date.
• Write unit or module title only once

WHAT NOT TO DO
• Do not use red or green pen (for administration use). Instead, use a blue or black pen.
• We should not leave the record of work book for days, weeks or months without filling it.
Filling it is our professional obligation.
• Do not mix several subjects on the same page.
• Do not allow students to fill the record of work book.
• Do not fill the record of work book in the staff room.
• Do not fill record of workbook at the beginning of the lesson
CAUTIONAY REMARKS
• Be honest while filling the record of workbook.
REMARKS TO THE DEAN OF STUDIES / VICE PRINCIPAL
 Control and sign the record of workbook at the end of each week.
 Before signing, verify on the progression sheet if the teacher is up to date
 Verify if assignments are frequently administered to students
 Verify the quality of assignments.
 Write down shortcomings observed on your personal control notebook which you will use to
call teachers to order.
