New Tales (New Adventures) by Andersen in1844.

The life of the ugly duckling begins when it accidentally ends up with a swan egg at a farm.
ducks, at birth the differences between their "siblings" are evident, the swan is
disproportionate compared to the lucky ducklings, everyone on the farm laughs at him.
When he tries to share with his 'brothers', they reject him and bluntly tell him how ugly he is.
even the duck's mom offends and repudiates him. The little swan's life becomes
miserable and unhappy.

One day, while crying by the pond, the reflection of her image in the water distorts still
more her figure, so her crying is sadder. At that moment, a mother swan passes by
there next to her young and hears the little swan crying inconsolably, she approaches and is filled
of tenderness and invites him to join his young; the "ugly duckling" upon seeing his new siblings realizes
tells that it is not a duck as he believed; but a bird that will one day become a
beautiful swan.

Then the swan that was the 'ugly duckling' leaves with its new family before the eyes
incredulous of the family of ducks that had rejected him.

[editMessage
This story, with its humorous parody of human self-esteem, is considered ametaphorof
the experience of the uncomfortable stage in the growth of an infant. Asfairy tale,
is used to make children feel less ashamed about their differences.
The moral of the story is hidden in the tale: It matters little whether one is born in the pen of
the ducks, whenever one hatches from a swan egg. An example from real life would be a
a boy or a girl who acts differently from the other boys and girls around him or her. The
fairy tale brings the hope that these differences will result in special benefits
and a bright future:

Then it spread its wings, raised its slender neck, and rejoiced from the depths of its
heart, never dreamed that there could be so much happiness, back in the days when it was
just an ugly duckling.

The ugly duckling has become a metaphor used for anything that
initially overlooked but later becomes popular or improves. For example:
"It's amazing that Fulanito is the best student in the class! Before, he only got"
low grades; he was the ugly duckling of the class.
