A place rich in history and natural beauty. I am Rhian B. Danao, your guide for today’s tour.
We’ll explore the fascinating stories and breathtaking sights this area has to offer.

Btw, have you had your breakfast? I hope you had your breakfast to have an energy for our
tour.

To start our tour, let’s have a headcount for us to know if we are complete, starting with you

Before we proceed with our day tour, I’d like to take a minute to tell friendly reminders and
safety precaution so that our tour will be smooth flowing and hustle free.

First, based on PAGASA update our weather today is hot with 34°C, so I hope you bring
enough water to stay hydrated, umbrella to seek shade and wear sunscreen to prevent
sunburn. And if you are not feeling well and you have any medical concerns do not hesitate
to call my attention; we have here a first aid kit.

Second, please take care of your valuable things and do not leave your things unattended.

Third, I want you to familiarize my signals, if I whistle once and wave this green flag, it
means we only have 3 minutes to roam around, and if I whistle twice and wave this red flag,
we need to go back to the bus and prepare for our next destination.

Lastly, don't forget to smile, and remember take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but
footprints, and kill nothing but time.

So, are you all ready for our day tour? Btw, are you all seated comfortable? We will now
begin our tour.

For our first destination located in Sikatuna St. Cebu City, The Heritage of Cebu Monument
or known as Parian Monument. It is a tableau-style sculpture depicting significant events and
figures in Cebu’s history. The Heritage of Cebu Monument serves as a powerful visual
representation of Cebu’s rich cultural and historical heritage, encompassing the Spanish
colonial era, the introduction of Christianity, and the resilience of the Cebuano people.

We are now at our destination. Welcome to the Heritage of Cebu Monument! This tableau-
style sculpture was created by Filipino sculptor Eduardo Castrillo, with the assistance of
architects Hardie Espanol and Ildefonso Santos. Eduardo Castrillo is also known for his
famous sculpture The People Power Monument located in Quezon City, Metro Manila. It
encompasses the Spanish colonial era by:

• Social Structure: It reflects the social structure of Cebu during the Spanish colonial era and
beyond, showcasing the influence of various groups or the indigenous people.

• Religious Influences:

These are the historical scenes and figures we see here:

• This side is the Baptism of Cebu. On April 14, 1521, Rajah Humabon and his followers
(800 followers) were baptized, including his wife Queen Juana and their people. This marks
the first recorded instance of Cebu baptism in the Philippines.

• This side is the Battle of Mactan, the conflict between Ferdinand Magellan and native
warriors of Mactan Island led by Lapu-Lapu.

• The arrival of Ferdinand Magellan in the Philippines. They landed on the island of Mactan.

•And of course, the Sinulog Festival, which is one of the cultural and religious events in Cebu
City, held every third Sunday of January to honor the Santo Niño.

•It also features the former President Sergio Osmeña Sr., the first Cebuano president of the
Philippines, and Pedro Calungsod, the first Cebuano saint and a martyr.

•They also have here the various churches in Cebu: the Basilica del Santo Niño, Cebu
Metropolitan Cathedral, and Saint John the Baptist Church.

For our second destination, The Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House. One of the oldest residential
buildings in the Philippines dating back to the late 17th century. The house is a significant
cultural landmark and Chinese artifact in Cebu, notable for its blend of Spanish and Chinese
architectural styles.

We are now at our destination, The Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House. It was built between
1675 and 1700 by Don Juan Yap, a Chinese merchant and his wife, Doña Maria Florido. This
is the first ancestral house built outside China during Spanish colonial era.

The Spanish era architecture house style, for example is "Bahay na Bato" (house style) with
stone or brick lower level, coral, shell windows, shells used for windows, with ceramic tiles,
having motifs featuring dragons.

Inside, we can see the some antique furnitures like this chair, this table. We can also see here
some religious art and family heirlooms.

For our next destination, the Fort San Pedro. The oldest and smallest triangular bastion port
in the country. Today, it’s a historical park and popular tourist attraction showcasing
remnants of its past and offering a tranquil space in the heart of Cebu.

Welcome to the Fort San Pedro! It is established in 1565 by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, a
Spanish conquistador who led an expedition to conquer the Philippine island. It served as a
military defense structure against indigenous rebels and Muslim pirates. Over time, it also
functioned as a rebel stronghold, a prison camp, and even a city zoo.

For our next destination is the Magellan’s Cross. A Christian cross planted by Portuguese
explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521 upon his arrival in the archipelago.

We are now here! Welcome to the Magellan’s Cross. This cross is a significant symbol of the
introduction of Christianity to the Philippines. The cross is housed in a chapel and is believed
to be the same one planted by Magellan or a replica enclosed in another wooden cross for
protection.

For our next destination is just there at the back side of Magellan’s Cross, the Basilica del
Santo Niño. It represents a pivotal moment in the Philippines’ history and the beginning of
the Roman Catholic faith in the archipelago.

The oldest Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines holding a revered image of the Santo
Niño, representing both faith and heritage. It’s a major pilgrimage site and a symbol of deep
intertwining with the introduction of Christianity in the Philippines and the enduring faith of
the Filipino people.

For our last destination this morning, the Island Souvenirs. A popular Cebu-based chain

one-stop shopping experience for tourists seeking mementos of their trip. Here are the things

For our destination this afternoon is the Cebu Taoist Temple. It was built in 1972 by the
Chinese community in Cebu, a place of worship dedicated to the philosophy of Taoism. The
temple serves as a center of Taoist worship and also functions as a cultural and education hub
for the Chinese community.

Welcome to the Cebu Taoist Temple! A stunning architectural marvel and spiritual landmark
in Beverly Hills. This temple showcases traditional Chinese design with vibrant colors,
dragon statues, and intricate carvings.

It features a grand entrance gate popular for tourist pictures. Inside, the Chinese can continue
day rituals. There are some activities you may do here like:

enduring love and devotion for his wife. Serving as both a mausoleum and museum
showcasing her life and collection of antiques.

Welcome to the Tops Lookout of Cebu! It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city
