MUHSIN KHAN
When the sun Kuwwirat (wound round and lost its light and is overthrown). (1) And when the stars shall
fall; (2) And when the mountains shall made to pass away; (3) And when the pregnant she-camels shall
be neglected; (4) And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together; (5) And when the seas shall
become as blazing Fire or shall overflow; (6) And when the souls shall be joined with their bodies; (7)
And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. (8) For
what sin she was killed? (9) And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall
be laid open; (10) And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; (11) And
when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. (12) And when Paradise shall be brought near, (13)
(Then) every person will know what he has brought (of good and evil). (14) So verily, I swear by the
planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). (15) And by the planets
that move swiftly and hide themselves, (16) And by the night as it departs; (17) And by the dawn as it
brightens; (18) Verily, this is the Word (this Quran brought by) a most honourable messenger [Jibrael
(Gabriel), from Allah to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)]. (19) Owner of power, and high
rank with (Allah) the Lord of the Throne, (20) Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the
heavens). (21) And (O people) your companion (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is not a madman;
(22) And indeed he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] in the clear horizon
(towards the east). (23) And he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) withholds not a knowledge of the

unseen. (24) And it (the Quran) is not the word of the outcast Shaitan (Satan). (25) Then where are you
going? (26) Verily, this (the Quran) is no less than a Reminder to (all) the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns).
(27) To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, (28) And you will not, unless (it be) that Allah
wills, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). (29)
MUFTI TAQI USMANI
When the sun will be folded up, and when the stars will swoop down, and when the mountains will be
set in motion, and when the ten-months pregnant she-camels will be abandoned, and when the wild
beasts will be gathered together, and when the seas will be flared up, and when the people will be
arranged in categories, and when the girl-child that was buried alive will be asked, for what sin she was
killed, and when the scrolls (of deeds) will be unrolled, and when the sky will be stripped off, and when
the Hell will be set ablaze, and when the Paradise will be brought close, then everyone will know what
he (or she) has put forward. So, I swear by those (stars) that recede, that proceed, that withdraw from
the scene, and by the night when it departs, and the morning when it starts breathing, it (the Qur’ān) is
surely the word of a noble messenger (Jibra’īl), the one possessing power and a high status with the
Lord of the Throne, the one obeyed there, trusted. Your companion (Muhammad ) is not a madman, and
he did see him (Jibra’īl ) on the clear horizon. And he (the Prophet) is not stingy about (the news of) the
unseen. Nor is it the word of an outcast satan (devil). Then where are you going? It is nothing else but a
message of advice for all the worlds, for the benefit of any one from among you who intends to go
straight. And you cannot intend (to do anything) unless it is so willed by Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
