1. Vocabulary
• Synonyms & Antonyms
o Meaning: Words with similar or opposite meanings.
o Tip: Learn 5–10 daily; use them in sentences.
• One Word Substitution
o Meaning: Replace a full phrase with one word.
o Example: A person who writes poems → Poet.
• Idioms & Phrases
o Meaning: Group of words with a fixed meaning.
o Example: Break the ice → Start a conversation.
2. Grammar
• Parts of Speech (noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction,
interjection)
o Basic building blocks of English.
• Tenses (past, present, future — simple, continuous, perfect)
o SSC often tests on error spotting and sentence improvement.
• Subject–Verb Agreement
o Rule: Subject and verb must match in number and person.
• Articles & Determiners (a, an, the, this, those, many, some, few, etc.)
• Prepositions (in, on, at, between, among, etc.)
o Commonly tested in fill-in-the-blanks.

3. Error Spotting
• Meaning: Identify grammatical mistakes in a sentence.
• Common focus:

4. Sentence Improvement
• Meaning: Correct part of a sentence to make it grammatically correct or more
appropriate.
5. Fill in the Blanks
• Types:
o Single blank → choose the most suitable word.
o Double blank → choose a pair of words that fit.
6. Cloze Test
• Meaning: A passage with blanks — test vocabulary + grammar.
• Tip: Read the full passage before filling in.
7. Reading Comprehension
