IELTS WRITING TASK 2 SAMPLES

Some people th!nk that parents should teach the!r ch!ldren how to be good members of
soc!ety. Others, however, bel!eve that school !s the best place to learn th!s. D!scuss both
v!ews and g!ve your own op!n!on.
Some people bel!eve that ch!ldren should be taught by the!r parents about how to funct!on as
useful members of soc!ety, wh!le others bel!eve that send!ng ch!ldren to educat!onal !nst!tut!ons
!s the best way for them to study th!s. Although the latter op!n!on can be benef!c!al !n some
cases, I bel!eve that fam!ly upbr!ng!ng plays a more !mportant role !n educat!ng ch!ldren to be
good parts of the commun!ty.
Schools can be cons!dered su!table places for ch!ldren to learn to be good c!t!zens. W!th
standard!zed educat!onal methods, schools can foster ch!ldren’s cogn!t!ve development so that
they are able to contr!bute to soc!ety !n the future. For example, Trung Vuong school and
V!nschool are well known for hav!ng nurtured successful alumn! such as Professor Ngo Bao,
Professor Nguyen Hung who have devoted the!r talents to the development of the country.
However, these people only represent a small fract!on of the total number of students attend!ng
schools, and thus send!ng ch!ldren to schools cannot be the best method of educat!ng them to
be good members of soc!ety.
I bel!eve that parents play a more !mportant role !n teach!ng them how to be good c!t!zens. In
V!etnam, the average class s!ze !s 20 students, wh!ch makes !t d!ff!cult for educators to prov!de
proper school!ng for each student. One to one lessons at home, on the other hand, allow ch!ldren
to progress faster. Furthermore, parents form stronger bonds w!th the!r offspr!ng and thus, !t !s
eas!er for them to shape ch!ldren’s personal!t!es at an early age. For example, by tell!ng stor!es
such as Rob!n Hood, C!nderella before bedt!me, parents can !nst!l a sense of compass!on and
!ntegr!ty !nto them. These ch!ldren are l!kely to become good members of soc!ety when they
grow up.
In conclus!on, although send!ng ch!ldren to schools can be seen as a way of teach!ng them how
to be good c!t!zens, I bel!eve that domest!c upbr!ng!ng has a b!gger !mpact on determ!n!ng who
they are !n the future.
There !s an !ncreas!ng trend around the world of marr!ed couples dec!d!ng not to have
ch!ldren. D!scuss the advantages and d!sadvantages for couples who dec!de to do th!s.
An !ncreas!ng number of marr!ed couples around the world choos!ng to rema!n ch!ldless. The
ma!n benef!ts of not hav!ng a ch!ld for couples are that they can focus on the!r careers and have
more t!me for themselves. The ma!n drawbacks are that they could not f!t !nto the!r peers’ group
and have no one to look after them when they get old.
One pr!mary advantage of rema!n!ng ch!ldless for marr!ed couples !s that they can focus on the!r
work. Th!s !s because they have less respons!b!l!ty and d!stract!ons !n the!r l!ves compared to the
couples that have a ch!ld. Another advantage of th!s !s that they have more spare t!me. Look!ng
after a ch!ld !s a full-t!me job for parents and tak!ng most of the!r t!me, wh!le ch!ld-free couples
have lots of free t!me after work. For example, many couples stop go!ng out late w!th the!r fr!ends
after hav!ng a ch!ld as they have to stay at home for look!ng after the!r ch!ldren.
One d!sadvantage of couples dec!d!ng not to have ch!ldren !s that they can struggle to hang w!th
the!r peers after most of them have ch!ldren. Most parents prefer to spend more t!me w!th other
couples that have ch!ldren as well. Moreover, do not have anyone to look after them !n the!r
elderl!ness !s another d!sadvantage. Ch!ldren are the ones who take care of the!r parents when
they get old because the!r parents d!d the same for them when they were young. For !nstance,
the vast major!ty of the people who l!ve !n care homes have no ch!ld.
In conclus!on, the ma!n benef!ts of stay!ng ch!ld-free for couples are that they can be more
career-or!ented and have more free t!me for themselves, and the ma!n drawbacks are that they
could have problems about f!tt!ng !nto the!r fr!ends’ group and hav!ng no one to take care of
them when they become older.
Some people th!nk that parents should teach the!r ch!ldren how to be good members of
soc!ety. Others, however, bel!eve that school !s the best place to learn th!s. D!scuss both
v!ews and g!ve your own op!n!on.
Some would say that parents should teach the!r offspr!ng how to be good members of soc!ety,
wh!le others are of the op!n!on that school !s the best !n th!s regard. Th!s essay agrees w!th the
latter po!nt and w!ll show that, desp!te the pract!cal exper!ences that parents g!ve the!r ch!ldren,
school lessons can g!ve deep !ns!ghts !nto what !t takes to be good c!t!zens.
Some bel!eve that parents can educate the!r ch!ldren about be!ng good members of soc!ety
based on the!r l!fe exper!ences. Th!s !s because the l!fe exper!ences that parents can g!ve the!r
ch!ldren are stra!ghtforward, down-to-earth, and so they can eas!ly apply what the!r parents
teach them !n real!ty. For example, many ch!ldren !n Tha!land become more pol!te, honest, and
car!ng to everyone as a d!rect result of the pract!cal lessons that the!r parents g!ve them at
home. However, I bel!eve that parents now are so busy and do not spend much t!me w!th the!r
ch!ldren teach!ng them.
Lessons at school can prov!de ch!ldren w!th valuable !ns!ghts !nto be!ng good members of
soc!ety. In class, students can rece!ve lessons about d!fferent tra!ts of a truly good person that
soc!ety needs, and then they put what they learn !nto pract!ce by creat!ng real-l!fe problems and
solv!ng them together. For !nstance, after rece!v!ng lessons !n c!v!c educat!on at school, many
V!etnamese students are more w!ll!ng to help the!r ne!ghbors and even strangers, and they feel
extremely happy after do!ng someth!ng good for others. For th!s reason, I bel!eve that school
lessons are more !nfluent!al to young ch!ldren.
In conclus!on, desp!te the pract!cal exper!ences that parents can g!ve the!r ch!ldren at home, th!s
essay bel!eves that school lessons can help students deepen the!r understand!ng of be!ng good
members of soc!ety.

The s!tuat!on !n Gaza C!ty !s "noth!ng short of cataclysm!c", a UN off!c!al has told the BBC, as
Israel! tanks and troops cont!nue to advance on the th!rd day of a ground offens!ve.
Olga Cherevko, a spokeswoman for the UN's human!tar!an off!ce, sa!d she had seen a constant
stream of Palest!n!ans head!ng south dur!ng a recent v!s!t to the c!ty, but that hundreds of
thousands rema!ned.
The World Health Organ!zat!on (WHO) warned that overwhelmed hosp!tals were on the br!nk of
collapse because !t was be!ng prevented from del!ver!ng l!fesav!ng suppl!es.

The UN and !ts human!tar!an partners have recorded at least 200,000 people cross!ng from
northern to southern Gaza s!nce m!d-August, when Israel announced !ts !ntent!on to conquer
Gaza C!ty. Around 55,000 have made the journey s!nce Sunday.
Cherevko, who works for the UN human!tar!an off!ce !n the central c!ty of De!r al-Balah, told the
BBC she travelled to Gaza C!ty two days ago - a 29km (18 m!le) round-tr!p that took 14 hours.
"The th!ngs there, and the scenes on the way to Gaza C!ty, are noth!ng short of cataclysm!c," she
recalled.
"A constant stream of people [are] cross!ng from the north to the south, many on foot. Ins!de
Gaza C!ty, !t's very crowded st!ll because there are hundreds of thousands of c!v!l!ans st!ll
rema!n!ng there."
She sa!d she also w!tnessed mult!ple Israel! str!kes "very close" to the UN convoy wh!le !n Gaza
C!ty, add!ng: "It was really just a constant h!t after h!t wh!le we were there."
On Thursday morn!ng, w!tnesses told Reuters news agency they had seen Israel! tanks !n the
northern She!kh Radwan ne!ghbourhood and the southern ne!ghbourhood of Tal al-Hawa, wh!ch
have come under heavy bombardment !n recent days.
They also reported that Israel! forces had blown up remotely dr!ven veh!cles laden w!th
explos!ves !n both areas, destroy!ng many houses.
Local hosp!tals sa!d at least 14 people had been k!lled by Israel! f!re across the Gaza Str!p on

The Israel! m!l!tary sa!d !n a statement that !ts troops were "expand!ng" the!r operat!ons !n the
c!ty, w!thout g!v!ng any deta!ls about the!r movements.
At the start of the ground assault on Tuesday, the m!l!tary's ch!ef of staff, Lt Gen Eyal Zam!r, told
troops to "!ntens!fy the blows aga!nst Hamas and to dec!s!vely defeat the Gaza C!ty br!gade, !n
order to carry out the most moral and !mportant duty - the return of all the hostages home and
the d!smantl!ng of Hamas's m!l!tary and govern!ng capab!l!t!es".
Cherevko warned that many people were unable to comply w!th the Israel! m!l!tary's order to
evacuate to !ts des!gnated "human!tar!an area" !n the south.
"The expense of mov!ng your belong!ngs, !f you are lucky enough to f!nd a veh!cle that w!ll move
them, !s exorb!tant. It's not affordable for many people. And that's why many are do!ng th!s on
foot, w!th barely a mattress !n the!r hands and maybe a plast!c bag."
And once they arr!ved there were no guarantees of shelter or safety, she added.
"I spoke to a lot of people who have recently arr!ved !n De!r al-Balah and [the southern c!ty of]
Khan Youn!s. Many of them are s!tt!ng on the s!de of the street, w!th noth!ng. They don't have
any shelter. They don't know where to go.
"Yesterday, I met a fam!ly who had been walk!ng around for four days, try!ng to f!nd space to
sleep and they d!dn't manage," she sa!d

The Israel! m!l!tary sa!d !ts forces were "d!smantl!ng terror !nfrastructure and el!m!nat!ng
terror!sts" !n Gaza C!ty.

"The !njured and people w!th d!sab!l!t!es cannot move to safety, wh!ch puts the!r l!ves !n grave

"Hosp!tals, already overwhelmed, are on the br!nk of collapse as escalat!ng v!olence blocks

The UN says there are currently about 1,790 !n-pat!ent hosp!tal beds for the 2.1 m!ll!on

The UN Populat!on Fund meanwh!le warned that women were be!ng forced to g!ve b!rth !n the

The Israel! m!l!tary launched a campa!gn !n Gaza !n response to the Hamas-led attack on
southern Israel on 7 October 2023, !n wh!ch about 1,200 people were k!lled and 251 others were

At least 65,141 people have been k!lled !n Israel! attacks !n Gaza s!nce then, accord!ng to the
