KANATA NORTH NEWS Marianne Wilkinson Councillor, Kanata North HEALTH UPDATE

Thank you to the many residents who have expressed concern over the health incident I suffered last week. Social media was at work with news being tweeted before I even left the hotel and making it sound much worse than what happened! The real situation is that during my presentation on cycling in Ottawa, I suddenly began to feel that I was about to faint, which resulted in a slowing of speech and I evidently turned white as a sheet. That is not a good thing to do during a public session! Fortunately the organizer instantly put me into a chair so I didnt actually pass out but that ended my presentation! On the urging of those present, I agreed to go to the hospital to be checked out. The tests there showed that I had recovered but on the urging of my colleagues I took a few days off just to be sure. I am also following up with my own doctor to see if we can find out why I became faint. I am now fully back serving as your Councillor. Id like to thank my staff for handling inquiries and looking after the office and to other City Council members for their advice and support over the past few days.

KANATA RACE DAY SUPPORTS THE COMMUNITY

Its getting close to Kanata Race Day, which is held to create awareness of our new recreation centre, now under construction and scheduled to open in the fall of 2013. Kanata Race Day is also held to raise funds for the extra facilities we asked to be included in the complex. Come and find out about this great facility, enjoy a 1k or 5k run or walk in the beauty of the South March Highlands, and support your community. This is a great event for the entire family, with very young children (some under 2) participating in the 1k and runners enjoying the 5k. Ill be there to cheer you on. Race Day is Sunday Sept. 9th with the 5k start at 9 am, followed by the 1k at 10 am. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start time. Details on parking and getting to the start are on the website. You can register and get your sponsorship forms at www.kanataraceday.com. By getting sponsors youll help us raise the funds needed to enhance the pool, skateboard park, youth room and soccer field. Thanks to Sarah Muldoon, the race master, and the volunteers who make this event possible. To become a volunteer go to the volunteer section of kanataraceday.com.
