Brochure
Description:

A two sided tri-folding Brochure

Date:

7/9/2016

Course Instructor:

Comm 130 Visual Media

Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Set up and design a two-sided folding document.

Learn how to wrap text around an image.
Use paragraph Styles

Process:

I measured out a tri-folding document in Adobe InDesign. I

labeled third to help with organization.
I vectorized a picture of myself in Illustrator. I then traced that
image in InDesign and put it on the reverse side so they could
be identical front and back for when I cut it out. I then added
pictures of mattresses I had edited in Photoshop.
It took me five prints to get the alignment just right.

Montage
Description:

Inspirational montage made by the blending of two or more

images.

Date:

5/27/2016

Course Instructor:

Comm 130 Visual Media

Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images

together smoothly, using masks.
Use filters.
Apply appropriate typography.

Process:

I inserted to background image and made it fit into 8.5 by 11

landscape orientation. I then inserted a picture of Jesus Christ
and added a mask. With black paint I painted away the hard
edge and blended the picture into the background. I added type
with the same font and aligned the words with the temple and
the sage brush tree.

Photodesign
Description:

A personally taken photograph that has been edited and made

into an ad.

Date:

Course Instructor:

Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Learn basic photography skills.

Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then
incorporate the colors into the layout.
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in
Photoshop.
Print with full-bleed margins.

Process:

I took my picture of the Grand Tetons with a Cannon Rebel.

I used Photoshop to edit my picture. I cropped my image,
adjusted the levels, sharpness, and color balance. With my
color balance adjustments I brought out the greens a little bit.
I added text that fit my color scheme and I played around with
the shapes in Photoshop to create a bike.

Adobe InDesign

Objectives:

Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.
Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business
card and letterhead.

Process:

I started out by researching other mattress company logos. I

used Adobe Illustrators pen tool to draw the outline of a person
sleeping. I then typed out Rudys Mattresses and contrasted
the fonts. I chose a color scheme that fit. I then linked the
illustrator document into Adobe InDesign and created a
letterhead and business card with all my information.

Objectives:

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.

Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.

Process:

I created four sketches of this flier. I then chose my favorite

sketch and used it as a guide to create this project in Adobe
InDesign. I used gray and black boxes to contrast against
the white background. I used three rectangles as a symbol of
repetition. I emphasized the work Graduate to make sure it
was the focal point of the flier. I aligned most every aspect of the
flier and used asymmetry as well.

Microsoft Word
Image Scanner

Objectives:

Find, scan and import a high-quality image.

Learn to use only Word design features without using any
Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process:

I first scanned a picture that I liked. I saved this picture and

put it into a word document to use for this ad. I used a blue box
for contrasting colors to the red on the fish. I put the body copy
words against the background of the fish because it utilized the
space better. I chose green letter because it stuck out against
the backgrounds. I got the image from Simple Fly Fishing by
Yvon Chouinard.

Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:

Create three completely different, original logos to fit a

company or personal image that will appeal to the audience.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos.
Refine one logo with variations for color

Process:

I first thought about what my message is. My message is that

I sell great quality mattresses cheaper than anyone else. I
used Adobe Illustrator to create a logo. I created a stick figure
carrying a mattress shaped vector box to symbolize that I will
carry the overhead. I played around with a lot of color schemes
and symbols. I placed stars in the Logo to symbolize sleep.
I then made a gray-scale logo and a white logo with a color
background.
