To Whom It May Concern:

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Melanie Filby. Melanie
worked as a counselor intern with me for roughly 6 months of the 2017-2018 school year. She
did not complete her internship with me for the entire school year because she was given a
wonderful opportunity to be a long-term substitute as a school counselor.

Melanie cares about each student that she works with and has their best interests in mind. She
was able to develop positive relationships with several students and those students felt very
comfortable coming to her for advice. Melanie worked one-on-one with students to try to help
them pass their classes so that they can graduate. Melanie also has the forethought as, at times,
she felt like she was being more of a crutch to students. At this point, she would speak honestly
to them and make sure that they knew that they were accountable for themselves. She reminded
them that Mrs. Filby would not always be around, and then began to work with the students on
being more self-sufficient. It is often hard to see that a boundary needs to be drawn, but Melanie
was able to see it and make the student aware too! She teaches students life-long skills!

In addition, Melanie is eager to learn. During her short time in her internship, she tried to learn
as much as possible about College Credit Plus. She attended training for giving students the
placement tests, and attended various meetings in our district about this state-wide initiative. I
feel very confident that she will be able to use this new knowledge to help involve students in
your school with College Credit Plus.

Last, Melanie is very organized and uses time management well. A counselor needs to be able to
constantly shift gears, and I feel that Melanie is able to keep up the quick pace of the job. She
does a wonderful job of keeping track of data, and is proficient in Google Forms to help
streamline this.

Based on my experience of working with Melanie, I feel she will be an excellent counselor. I
would highly recommend her for a school counselor position in your school. She would be an
asset to any educational setting.

Sincerely,

Erin M. Hibbitt
