Becoming a Police Detective
Police detectives are able to get their criminal from just little clues from the crime scene
that they left behind. The community needs to have police detectives because they are the
people who are able to find the clues that the murderer has left behind. A police detective and
police officer helps keep a community safe by enforcing the law, investigating crimes and
keeping criminals off the streets.
A police officer is good for the community but some people might not even know it.
Remember that police officers are caretakers of our society (Police Officers). They are our
caretakers because the Police officers protect the community and the people from people who
breaks the laws. When they catch a criminal, thats one less person to worry about in the
community by knowing he or she is in jail and not breaking any more laws. By police officers
trying to keep the community a better place, they are putting their lives in danger because they
dont know what will happen that day; they can get injured or even killed by a criminal on the
loose. Police officers in the community dont look for crime as much as looking for problems in
the community. More than anything they, view community problems, rather than specific
crimes or incidents (A Call to Serve). They look at the problems because the more the
problems, the worse it will get, so they have to try and fix the issue before it gets bigger. If there
is a crime in the community and there are no suspects, the detective will get the call and then get

as many clues from the scene, too. While they are searching for clues, the neighborhood will be
questioned if anyone has seen anything that can help them catch the criminal. When police
detectives investigate crimes, it is stressful and it does take time. When they first arrive onto the
crime scene, they usually look for clues such as the carpet and if there is blood near the victim.
For example, if the first police officers are on the location and they see weapons on the ground,
they make a border around the scene and stay here locking the scene down securing the crime
(Crime Investigation Training). They secure it because they dont want anyone near the objects,
so they dont mess around with the evidence because they have clues that need to not be
tampered with. They will look for items that are missing and they will take fingerprints off of
door knobs and off the victim.
There are four type of criminal investigation groups. The first one is the investigation
sections and they are assigned to investigation crimes, including interviewing suspects, Victims
and witness (Criminal Investigations). This group is trying to get the basics of a crime and they
want to know who was it and what they did or wore, so they can get the criminal and end the
investigation. The second one is the street crimes unit they target emerging trends such as
robberies, residential or motor vehicle burglary sprees (Criminal Investigations). There job is to
identify and catch the suspect, so they cant do anymore harm to anyone else. The street crimes
unit has to react quickly in order to catch the suspect. The third one is the forensic service and
their job is to get all the evidence together to catch the suspect and arrest him. The last group is
the Evidence and Court Service and they are in charge of making sure that the clues all go
together and they have all the paperwork needed to give them a court trial. Police detectives are
used when they find a crime scene and they need help trying to find a suspect and what clues
Hernandez3
they left behind while the rest are asking the people for anybody who was against them as well as
find eyewitnesses.
A police officer's job is to keep the community safe and sometimes it goes bad. It goes
bad by trying to keep criminals off the streets, which can be dangerous to the community. In the
community, there are criminals and where there are criminals, there are guns and violence, which
makes them more dangerous. As long as there are people who are willing to break the rules,
there will be others who are willing to help them in order to make a quick buck, no matter who
gets hurt in the process (Brady Campaign). This quote is from the Brady Center where they
want to stop gun violence and the quote means that when people break the rules, such as
criminals, there are people that will help them to get some extra money off of them even if
people will get hurt. Police officers take extreme precaution when it comes to getting a specific
criminal off the street because they know they can be dangerous and they know they wont go
down easy.
Being a police detective or even a police officer is a hard job. Becoming one gives the
ability to earn a living helping people and making a difference in your community (Becoming a
Police). Once a police officer, their duty will be to help the community, and he or she will make
the community a much safer place for the people. They will be under stress and it requires time.
It comes as a dangerous job because they do not know how their day will be and they wont
know if anything bad will happen to them. At the same time, it comes as a rewarding job by
knowing the community is kept safe.
