Knowing what to write, before you write…

• Helps you to write quicker and smoother


• Prevents you from getting stuck halfway
• Results in a more organized, better and stronger composition!

What is a plan?
A typical story has 4 parts:

Conflict /
Introduction Resolution Conclusion
Problem
What is a plan?
Introduction (1 paragraph)
Introduction

• Set the scene by describing (Where is it?)

• Describe your main characters (Who are they?)


Conflict
• Lead the reader into the story

• Hook the reader, make the reader want to read on!

Resolution

Conclusion
What is a plan?
Conflict / Problem (1-2 paragraphs)
Introduction
• Main part of your composition
• Must be related to your Topic!
• Describe Feelings, Actions and Thoughts. (F.A.T)
Conflict
• Make the conflict / problem worse!

Resolution

Conclusion

Resolution (1 paragraph)
Introduction
• Fix the conflict / problem
• Make sure the solution is logical (and creative!)
• If there was a thief, how was he caught?
Conflict • If there was a fight, how was it stopped?
• If you were in a race, how did it end?
• …there are many other ways!

Conclusion
What is a plan?
Conclusion (1 paragraph)
Introduction
• End the story with a proper closure, don’t leave us hanging!
• Bad Example:
He slipped on a banana peel and fell. The End.

• Write about your thoughts and reflections about the incident.


• Write about something that might have changed after the incident.
Conclusion • Turned over a new leaf, became friends, became more hardworking…

Introduction
What was the conflict / problem:
- John and Tom quarrelled in front of everybody in the canteen

Conflict What led to the conflict / problem:


- John cut my queue
- Tom told John to join the queue properly, but John became angry
- They started pushing and shoving

Resolution How did the conflict / problem get worse:


- I tried to stop them
- They both pushed me!
- I knocked into a girl who was carrying a bowl of hot Laksa
Conclusion - She spilled the Laksa onto her arm and got scalded!

How was the problem solved:
- A teacher stepped in and stopped the commotion
- Brought the girl to the sick bay. Apply ointment on her skin.

- The three of us got called into the principal’s office
- John was punished for starting the quarrel and cutting queue, but Tom was also punished
Conflict for getting into a shoving match with John
- The three of us apologised to the girl

- Tom learned that if he wants to correct someone who is not doing the right thing, we should
not act rashly.
Resolution What changed after the incident?
- John turned over a new leaf
- The three of us became good friends
