Competency Reflection
Competency 001: The beginning principal knows how to
establish and implement a shared vision and culture of high
  expectations for all stakeholders.
In this competency, I learned that it is very important to be able to
establish and implement a shared vision. A notable example of
this would be parent meetings in which we inform parents of the
  expectations/visions for our school.
Another example would be the faculty meetings in which all staff
  talk about a shared vision.
Competency 002: The beginning principal knows how to work
with stakeholders as key partners to support student learning.
In this competency, I learned about the importance of meeting as
a team (teachers and administration) to be able to achieve the
desired goals for our students. This takes place by meeting and
communicating all the expectations and a planned process which
all of the stakeholders follow in order to meet the desired goals.
Competency 003: The beginning principal knows how to
collaboratively develop and implement high-quality instruction.
This competency is very important when developing goals for our
students. The beginning principal must make sure that she/he is
meeting with the staff in a regular basis making sure they are on
the same page regarding students’ goals.
Competency 004: The beginning principal knows how to monitor
and assess classroom instruction to promote teacher
  effectiveness and student achievement.
The observations done by the beginning principal are key factors
that contribute tremendously to feedback for the teachers that
  lead to student success.
Competency 005: The beginning principal knows how to provide
feedback, coaching, and professional development to staff
through evaluation and supervision, knows how to reflect on
his/her own practice, and strives to grow professionally.
Professional developments are essential in growing and striving to
develop as a professional each day. The beginning principal does
this task as she/he reflects daily on the work of the employees.
Competency 006: The beginning teacher knows how to promote
high quality teaching by using selection, placement, and
retention practices to promote teacher excellence and growth.
The beginning teacher reflects on the dedication of each staff
member. As he/she does this, the beginning teacher motivates
each staff member through planned activities to promote teacher
  retention practices.
Competency 007: The beginning principal knows how to develop
relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including
selecting appropriate communication strategies for audiences.
A splendid example that I can apply in this competency would be
when the beginning teacher plans a career day for a campus. As
the beginning teacher plans, he/she must develop relationships
with internal and external stakeholders to make this event a
  success.
Competency 008: The beginning principal knows how to focus on
  improving student outcomes through organizational
  collaboration, resiliency, and change management.
A big part of this competency is the reflection that is done in
faculty meetings as the staff and the beginning teacher unite
together and collaborate as a team.
Competency 009: The beginning principal knows how to
collaborate determine goals and implement strategies aligned
with the school vision that supports teacher effectiveness and
  positive student outcomes.
EIT meetings are a great factor in developing this competency. The
beginning teacher and the staff members determine goals as they
all collaborate to accomplish the school vision.
Competency 010: The beginning principal knows how to provide
administrative leadership through resource management, policy
implementation, and coordination of school operations and
programs to ensure a safe learning environment.
It is very important for the beginning principal to provide a safe
learning environment. Therefore, there are several procedures
that the beginning principal must make sure that the school if
following through. For example, fire drills, shelter in place, front
  entrance security.
Competency 011: The beginning principal knows how to provide
ethical leadership by advocating for children and ensuring
student access to effective educators, programs, and services.
This competency states the importance of advocating for our
students. Notable examples of this competency are the different
referrals that get done by the teachers and that the beginning
principal supports. The main purpose of these referrals is to be
able to provide our students with the best education possible. For
example, referring a student for dyslexia evaluation to be able to
provide the student with the support that he/she needs.
