TITLE : LAC PLAN for the GREEN SCHOOLS PROJECT
II. DESCRIPTION
The Green Schools Project is an innovative scheme using the Educator
Empowerment Program 6R Training Model for Teachers (Read, Reflect, Reinforce,
Render, Relate, and Refresh) which provides schools with the means to give teachers
year-round and comprehensive training in critical areas that affect the quality of
teaching and learning, particularly in the Environment Education aspect that educates
young people to cultivate a more environmentally conscious approach in their lives.
Anchored on the Department of Education’s National Competency-Based
Teacher Standards (NCBTS) and aligned with the K-12 Curriculum and the
Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST), this professional development
program is a game-changer in the Philippine educational reform as it enables schools
to capacitate teachers to perform better in the classroom while delivering environment
education lessons that would likely produce academically-empowered and
environmentally-responsive and proactive learners in the school and in the
       community.
III. RATIONALE
Throughout the world, many countries have taken steady strides in
integrating environmental education in their education curricula. In our country, the
Department of Education took part through the DepEd Order No. 42, s. 2011
(Strengthening Environmental Education in Public and Private Schools) directing
schools to intensify environmental education and push for the creation of student-led
environmental awareness groups in schools such as YES-O to boost government
efforts in dealing with climate change.
Despite these initiatives, there is still a pressing need to address key issues
in incorporating environmental education in the school system. Schools need to be
provided an enabling scheme for them to effective play their role in empowering
learners to be a “green generation”. The inadequate environmental education (EE)
trained teachers at the secondary education level, low level of environmental literacy
of students and teachers, insufficient integration of environmental education in school
curricula, limited linkages with relevant institutions and inadequate community-based
environmental education materials are the identified gaps that impede schools’ ability
      to campaign for sustainable development.
Thus, Dumalneg National High School is responding to this call by
proposing the implementation of the project through the weekly LAC sessions.
IV. OBJECTIVES
