HISTORY
The University of the Visayas was founded by the date Don Vicente Gullas in
1919 as the Visayan Institute (V.I) in Cebu City. It was not until 1935 that the
Visayan Institute moved to its present site in Colon St. The Second World War,
however, razed to the ground the physical facilities of the VI but undaunted by
adversities , Don Vicente Gullas reopened classes in Argao, Cebu in 1946. A
year later the VI moved back to its present site in Colon Street where the
building of its main campus now stand as a historical landmark in the City of
Cebu.
In 1948, the Visayan Institute was conferred a University status by the then
Bureau of Private Schools, the first to become a University in Cebu. The VI was
renamed as the University of the Visayas. From that time on, the expansion in
its baccalaureate and post graduate course offerings and its physical facilities
has been phenomenal. From an initial enrollment of 37 students and only a
high school department the VI evolved into a University with an enrollment
which at one time in the 1980’s peaked at 29,000 distributed throughout its
various campuses.

REFLECTION
They say nothing beats experience, as my professor would say, as the perfect
learning tool.
For some students, On the Job Training gives them the taste of the real world-
a glimpse of what lies ahead after they graduate.
One of the most important things I’ve is that talent alone is not enough.
It is important, but it is no guarantee of success.
One must also be hard working and should practice self- discipline.
Sacrifice is important too.
On the first day of my OJT I introduce myself to my employer and her staff.
After that I was given the do’s and don’ts in the office.
In my OJT time I learned a lot of things.
I learned through my OJT experience how to interact and communicate with
people.
Knowing how to handle and tackle different issues and still be diplomatic in
both action and words is important.
I learned to sacrifice a lot of things because I know it could help in the future
I learned it’s best to do and show your best. Ask my boss if they have some
work for me to do. I never know; they might hire me after internship or in the
future. I think studying is harder than working, though real word is easier than
college.
I know it will be exciting in the world after college and after OJT but things that
I can assure I would gladly accept whatever it takes because I know I have
learned a lot not just in school but also in my OJT.
My advice to the students that would take their practicum is that, you have to
work hard and don’t take it for granted because this will always your stepping
stone in the future. Also you must have a good attitude like, you must be
trusted, patient and respectful and lastly always think POSITIVE and straight
forward.
