DRILLSTRING INSPECTION

AS PER TH HILL DS-1 CATEGORY 4

a) VISUAL TUBE
- Paint Marker
- Pit Depth Gauge
- Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge
- Field Reference Standard
- Enough light to illuminate the entire assessable internal surface of the pipe

b) OD GAUGE TUBE INSPECTION


- Direct reading or “Go No Go” type Gauge

c) UT WALL THICKNESS INSPECTION


- Ultrasonic instrument – Pulse echo with digital display
- Field reference standard

d) ELECTROMAGNETIC 1 INSPECTION
- EMI unit equipped with a DC coil and designed to allow active longitudinal field inspection of
tube surface from the upset to up set. The unit shall generate a permanent record of the pipe
inspection and standardization.
- Field reference standard conforming to DS-1, Chapter 3, 3.3.7.2.b, Fourth Edition.

e) MPI SLIP/UPSET INSPECTION


- AC Yoke or AC Coil and if using the Wet Florescent Method
- DC Coil
- Black light intensity meter
- Black light source with minimum rating of 100 watts
- ASTM Centrifuge tube and stand

f) ULTRASONIC (UT) SLIP/UPSET INSPECTION (ADDITIONAL)


- Ultrasonic instruments for both scanning and prove-up shall be the pulse echo type with A-
Scan presentation and gain control increments no greater than 2 db. The unit shall have both
audible and visible alarm.
- Field reference standard conforming to DS-1, Chapter 3, 3.10.2.c.d, Fourth Edition.

g) VISUAL CONNECTION INSPECTION (API AND SIMILAR NON-PROPRIETARY


CONNECTIONS)
- 12 inch metal rule graduated in 1/64th increments
- A metal straight edge
- Hardened and ground profile gauge
- OD Calipers
- Lead gauge and Lead setting standard
h) DIMENSIONAL 1 THROUGH 3 INSPECTION
- Same requirements as point No.7 “Visual Connection Inspection”
- ID Calipers
