“The talk of the aesthetics industry town”, Sculptra® is the first and only FDA-approved PLLA facial injectable treatment proven to stimulate the skin’s own collagen production, working gradually to rebuild collagen – restoring the skin’s scaffolding from the inside out, smoothing facial wrinkles, reducing the appearance of smile lines, for example, and delivering a more youthful-looking appearance overall.
There’s no skirting around the issue. The largest culprit for collagen depletion is age, and while collagen levels vary from person to person (depending on the results of the genetic lottery), studies agree that, from our mid-twenties, most of us experience a decrease in collagen production of about 1%. By our mid-40s, we’re looking at that percentage has steadily increased, year on year, up to 25%. So, while you may not notice the decrease of collagen in your 20s, by the time you’re nearing 50, your skin’s mid-life crisis could be well – and noticeably – underway.
With a seemingly endless array of anti-ageing treatments on the market, from collagen creams to collagen supplements, it’s important to know that not all anti-ageing treatments deliver on their promises. The fact is, topical creams don’t penetrate deeply enough to affect real change, and the jury’s still out on the efficacy of ingestible collagen. Simply put, if you want to target the underlying causes of facial ageing proactively, not just address the symptoms reactively, a series of Sculptra® treatments are the answer. Why? Because, as an injectable, Sculptra® delivers a substantial collagen boost, turning back your skin’s clock by giving collagen production at the deepest layers of your skin a wake-up call.
As our industry-leading medical aesthetics, doctors know all too well that sustainable, long-term results are achieved with a proven process, not a quick fix, which is why Sculptra is a perfect fit for Skin Renewal and its clients. Once one of their medical aesthetic doctors has determined that Sculptra is right for your skin and your skin goals, the world-class team behind Skin Renewal’s nationwide presence will more than likely recommend a series of three Sculptra® treatments to achieve gradual results – including restoration of facial volume and youthful fullness. But don’t just take Skin Renewal’s word for it. Extensive clinical trials report that an impressive 94% of Sculptra clients agree that their treatment results looked natural two years after treatment.
The recent advances in Sculptra® also allow for treatment of the buttocks area – non-surgical butt lift.
A traditional butt lift is a surgical procedure that involves removing excess skin and tightening the remaining tissue to enhance the shape and firmness of the buttocks. It is usually performed by a plastic surgeon and requires anaesthesia and a recovery period.
Now, using this phenomenal product to firm and tighten the skin tissue on the buttocks area, the need to go under the knife has been significantly reduced.
However, the key is ensuring that you are the correct candidate for the procedure, and hence a proper medical assessment by one of the aesthetic doctors is essential if you are going to have the desired outcomes.
Sculptra® treatments are available in Gauteng at the Morningside, Parkhurst, Rosebank, Bedfordview, Fourways, West Rand, Irene, Waterfall, Irene, Lynnwood and Brooklyn clinics, as well as in the Western Cape at Cape Quarter, Claremont, Constantia, Century City, Stellenbosch, Paarl and Willowbridge clinics, and Kwa-Zulu Natal at the Ballito, Durban and Umhlanga clinics.
Sculptra® is an injectable bio-stimulator that can be used on both the face and the body. It gradually induces collagen neogenesis through a controlled inflammatory response for firmer, fuller, plumper skin. Sculptra’s effects develop gradually due to the time needed for the body to stimulate collagen production. Sculptra® renews the skin by improving the appearance of wrinkles up to 24 months after the last treatment. The significant increase in collagen production on the body causes a lifting ad tightening effect, allowing the practitioner to treat the buttocks area, resulting in a “butt lift” due to firmer, tighter, stronger and plumper skin.
As we age, so do the skin and its underlying structures. This is not only true of the skin on the face but also of the body. Collagen loss, bone remodelling, poor or slowing blood circulation and fat loss or fat redistribution all contribute to changes that result in a less youthful appearance. In humans, collagen corresponds to 75% of the dry weight of skin and 33% of the total protein, providing support and maintaining skin shape. As the production of collagen decreases with age, so does the quality of the collagen. In addition, collagen degradation increases with age. As collagen depletes, elasticity and volume are lost. Loss of elasticity and skin strength can clearly be seen on the legs at the buttocks area as we age, and the appearance of cellulite and orange peel become far more apparent as the years go by.
The face is the most commonly treated area with Sculptra®.
On the body, it can be used for:
Facial areas that cannot be treated with Sculptra® include:
Results obtained with Sculptra® treatment are gradual as collagen production is stimulated and skin appearance improves. Changes are subtle and usually aren’t apparent immediately after the first treatment. Improvements may last for up to 25 months after the initial treatment.
Your doctor will inform you of the potential risks and side effects. If you experience any side effects, please contact your doctor. The anticipated injection related reactions include transient bleeding from the needle stick, pain, localised redness, bruising, haematoma, or oedema, which generally resolve within 2–6 days.
