Critics Consensus

Continuing writer-director Jesse Armstrong's sterling streak of skewering the rich and powerful, Mountainhead counterbalances its repellant characters with terrific acting and dialogue.

Esther Zuckerman Bloomberg News There’s an immediacy to Armstrong’s satire that’s almost impulsive. But the anger that spurred Mountainhead’s creation is also its best quality. Armstrong is pissed off and has decided to channel that into brutal jokes. Jun 24, 2025 Full Review Chris Bennion Daily Telegraph (UK) Mountainhead is a caustic, defiant and righteously furious diatribe against the maniacal egos of those with all of the money and all of the power, but no vanishingly little moral fibre – and all wrapped up by the best jokes in the business. Rated: 4/5 Jun 5, 2025 Full Review David Bianculli NPR Mountainhead, like its quartet of central characters, is extremely unpredictable and very, very rich. Jun 4, 2025 Full Review Barbara Ellen Observer (UK) At its best, it delivers robust dissections of big ego masquerading as big humanity, of the philosophy-washing (“creative destruction”) of big-bucks greed and immorality. Oct 8, 2025 Full Review Asia Frey Lagniappe (Mobile, AL) This film is another stone-cold tour de force from Jesse Armstrong, who spent four seasons of “Succession” on the privileged lives of some truly unlikable people. It’s hilarious and harrowing and not entirely pleasant. Rated: B Sep 26, 2025 Full Review John Stark Mac the Movie Guy These four are too close in personality, which is a shame. If this was a series we could work and pull these characters apart, but as a feature Armstrong doesn’t seem to know how to do that. Rated: 56/100 Sep 7, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Elmers G Funniest movie I have seen in a long time. The writing and delivery of jokes is, astonishing, actually. Last half hour brought some tension, and ended with a great laugh. My neighbors must have heard me laughing, I swear. I want to go rewatch it right now Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/24/25 Full Review Ew I Sharp start and actually great for the first hour but the extended murder plot got boring very quickly and didn’t lead anywhere interesting. Obviously a fair bit of the feel of Succession in here, huddling in small spaces, aerial shots, the music, but overall a baggy watery ending. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/19/25 Full Review Jerry M Just hated the movie. This wasn’t satire, nor was it smart or witty or interesting in any fashion. It was an absolute waste of just under 2 hours of my life. I was waiting for it to turn the corner and get good; it didn't. The script was awful but the concept had promise however it never took off. I would imagine Steve Carell, Jason Sschwartzman and Youssef made a boatload of money for this junk. You have been warned: don't waste your time watching this. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/15/25 Full Review Hayden W I really enjoyed this film that takes Silicon Valley bosses to the extreme. I thought it was funny and good fun throughout, yes ridiculous in real life but that's the point of satire. If you like films such as In The Loop and The Death of Stalin, or even Knives Out, then you'll probs like this Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/12/25 Full Review Owen A I hated this movie so much I made an account to give it half a star because I couldn’t review it anywhere else. This wasn’t satire. It wasn’t witty. It wasn’t smart. It was an absolute waste of time. It had potential, I kept waiting for it to get good, and then it ended just when I had hopes it would get good. This is a monumental piece of trash and I am shocked the likes of Steve carell, Jason schwartzman, and Ramey youssef would’ve given their time to make it. They must’ve been paid a boatload and you can tell because the 4th guy is a nobody, which means whatever other a-lister they had lined up bailed once it dawned on them how awful this script and concept is. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/12/25 Full Review C H Waste of time! Tries to portray the overly analytical minds and deep ego of megarich/tech individuals but fails. Could have potentially redeemed with better ending. Do not bother watching. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/03/25 Full Review Read all reviews
