Darston is the newly-appointed Goron Chief.[6] He is advised by two elders, Gol and Silv. His quarters on the northern end of Goron City are notably messy, which the Gorons believe is due to him being too busy with his duties.[3]
Darston's father was the previous Goron Chief. While he was alive, he hung a portrait of himself in his and Darston's residence, though he had Darston promise to replace it once he became Chief.[4] Recently, Darston's father passed away and handed down his title to his son.[7] His father left him the Goron Chief's 56 Nuggets of Wisdom, a slate containing 56 mottos to help guide him as a Chief.[8][9] Darston has become reliant on the slate, which he carries with him.[8] According to Ondes, Darston resembles his father.[10] Silv also claims that he inherited his father's serious attitude in regard to his responsibilities.[11]
As part of the Side Quest "The Fireworks Artist", Basa wants to showcase a new type of Firework at a celebration in honor of Darston becoming the Goron Chief.[12] While watching the Fireworks, Darston will be impressed by the colors, and he proclaims that Basa is the best.[13]
When a Rift opens within Goron City, Darston attempts to save the Gorons who were stolen away by it. However, he gets too close and accidentally falls into the Still World.[14] During the Main Quest "The Rift on Eldin Volcano", he can be seen petrified while Princess Zelda and Tri traverse Stilled Goron City. After they mend the Rift, Darston and the other Gorons who disappeared will be returned. Darston is confused by what happened, and a Goron credits Zelda for saving him.[15] He thanks Zelda for her help and asks what her name is.[16] Upon realizing that she is the princess of Hyrule, Darston is honored and introduces himself as the new Goron Chief.[6] He is also able to see Tri, who he is pleased to meet.[17]
When a Goron child and Ondes realize that several Gorons, including Gol and Silv, are missing, Darston is shocked.[18] Ondes asks Darston what they should do, causing Darston to panic and consult the Goron Chief's 56 Nuggets of Wisdom.[19] Darston declares that he will find the missing Gorons, quoting a Nugget of Wisdom before leaving.[20]
