Location and Uses

A Link Between Worlds

Fissures appear as cracks on walls and other flat surfaces, surrounded by bizarre, color-shifting patterns. By Wall Merging and walking into these cracks, Link is able to travel between parallel locations in Hyrule and Lorule. As such, Fissures in Hyrule have a dark fog emitting from them, while Fissures in Lorule emit light. A total of 28 Fissures can be found throughout the worlds; entering one will permanently add it to the Map Screen.

Prior to the events of A Link Between Worlds, a Fissure was discovered by Yuga on a Stone Tablet in Lorule's Sacred Realm, through which the world of Hyrule and its still-intact Triforce could be sensed.[1] Yuga set out to kidnap Hyrule's Seven Sages and Princess Zelda, plotting to use their power to resurrect the Demon King, Ganon, to rule all worlds in his image.[2] After acquiring the Master Sword, Link chases Yuga Inside Hyrule Castle and nearly defeats him in battle, but Yuga escapes into the Castle's upper spires. Link reaches Princess Zelda's office, finds a Fissure behind a drape, and enters in, emerging in Princess Hilda's office in Lorule Castle to find that Ganon's resurrection is already underway.

Once he returns to Hyrule, Link finds Sahasrahla standing near a Fissure outside of Link's House. He explains that Yuga's actions in Hyrule Castle triggered an earthquake, causing Fissures to appear all over the land, which he worries is the start of a larger collapse of two the worlds.[3] Often when Link enters a new area of Lorule through a Fissure, Hilda will speak to the young hero telepathically and warn him of the dangers that plague the area.[4]
