Heat,(BotWBreath of the Wild | TotKTears of the Kingdom)[1][2] also known as Extreme Heat(BotWBreath of the Wild)[3] and Desert Heat,(HWHyrule Warriors)[4] is a recurring mechanic in The Legend of Zelda series.[name references needed]

Overview

Breath of the Wild

Heat occurs during the daytime in the Gerudo Desert. When the Temperature rises above 104°F, Link will experience one level of Heat and slowly take damage. When the Temperature rises above 122°F, as in Extremely Hot Zones, he will experience two levels of Heat and take damage more quickly. Link can avoid taking damage from Heat by taking shelter within shade, submerging himself in a body of Water, equipping certain pieces of Armor, consuming Chilly Cooking, or drinking Chilly Elixirs.[1] Both Gerudo Town and Kara Kara Bazaar provide constant protection from Heat.

The Rito traveler, Guy, can be found in the Kara Kara Bazaar, waiting for the daytime Heat to pass in order to visit Gerudo Town.[5] The Side Quest "An Ice Guy" involves giving a Chilly Elixir to Guy so that he can cross the Desert.[6]

Tears of the Kingdom

Echoes of Wisdom

The Gerudo Desert and its settlements, Gerudo Town and the Oasis, are subject to intense Heat. Whenever Princess Zelda is idle in the Desert, she will begin to sweat and fan herself. However, she will not take damage as a result of the Heat.

Desert Heat appears in the "Enduring Resolve" Scenario. Warriors caught within the Desert portion of Gerudo Desert will occasionally sustain minor damage from Desert Heat.[7] In order to curb the effects of the Desert Heat, the Hyrulean Forces must seize the North and South Oasis for the northern and southern portions of the Desert, respectively.[8][9]
