Characteristics

A Link to the Past

In A Link to the Past, Swamolas appear in the Swamp of Evil in the Dark World. Unlike their Lanmola counterparts which are used to the Desert of the Golden Land's harsh climate, Swamolas are adapted to the swampy environments they live in.[1] They swim to the surface of the mud to collect food,[1] biting Link in the process if he gets close enough.

A Link Between Worlds

In A Link Between Worlds, Swamolas appear in Misery Mire in Lorule. They behave the same as in A Link to the Past.

Nomenclature

Swamola may be a portmanteau of "swamp" and "Lanmola," given that they are counterparts to the Lanmola exclusive to swamp and marshy areas.

The Japanese name for the Swamola is モルドアームMorudoāmu (Moldarm), the name used for Moldorms in The Legend of Zelda, while the Japanese name for Moldorm in other games is テールTēru (Tail). Swamolas behave much like the Moldorms from Twilight Princess, which are known as モルドワームMorudowāmu (Moldwarm) rather than テールTēru (Tail) in Japan.
