Location and Uses
A Link to the Past
Two Thrones stand in the Throne Room of Hyrule Castle. While Princess Zelda and Link are escaping from the Castle, she tells him about a secret passageway, the Castle Dungeon, that leads to the Sanctuary.[5] Its entrance is hidden by a shelf behind the Thrones, which Link and Zelda must push out of the way together.[6]
The Minish Cap
A single Throne is located inside of Hyrule Castle's Throne Room. When Link enters the Throne Room after awakening in the Castle, King Daltus is sitting on the Throne. During this meeting, Daltus stands from his Throne, and he requests that Link enter the Minish Woods to find the Picori.[7] When Vaati turns the King to stone and replaces him, he issues an edict from the Throne demanding that the Soldiers find the Light Force.[8][9] After the Castle is transformed into Dark Hyrule Castle, King Daltus's Throne turns green.
Another Throne that belongs to the Twili can be found in the Palace of Twilight. Originally, Midna ruled as the leader of the Twili. However, she was overthrown by Zant, who now sits on this Throne. At the end of the Palace, Link and Midna find Zant on the Throne.
A Link Between Worlds
Hyrule Castle's Throne is located inside of a room on the northern end of its first floor. When Link meets with Princess Zelda, he finds her standing in front of this Throne.
In Hyrule Castle, there were originally two Thrones located within the Throne Room.[12] Whenever a new monarch succeeded the Throne, they would plant a Tree in the Hyrule Forest Park.[13] During official events, the Queen of Hyrule sat on the Throne to the right, while King Rhoam sat on the one to the left. According to Zelda in the time before the Great Calamity, the Queen's Throne has not been touched or changed since she passed away.[2] In the century since then, Rhoam's Throne has been destroyed, though the Queen's remains intact.
A duplicate of the Throne in Zora's Domain can be found in the Pristine Sanctum. Traditionally, Kings of the Zora who wish to retire offer one of their scales to this Throne after cleansing themselves in the Sanctum's Water. This symbolizes their abandonment of the earthly world.[15] Until the Main Quest "Sidon of the Zora" is completed, Dorephan can be found on this Throne, where he is recovering after being attacked by the Sludge Like.[16] Afterwards, he returns to the Throne in Zora's Domain, despite having abdicated his title.
The throne room sits at the center of the castle and is the site of many official events. Father would take the throne to the left, and Mother, the one on the right. Her throne remains unchanged and untouched since her passing." — Voice Memories (Zelda Notes, US, June 5, 2025)
↑According to Princess Zelda's diary, a new and improved Champion's Tunic is hidden in the throne room of Hyrule Castle.
↑There is a secret passage in the throne room that leads to Sanctuary. I'm sure the old man there will help us. — Princess Zelda (A Link to the Past)
↑That ornamental shelf should open. Do you have a light? It's pitch dark inside and you can't see without one. If you're ready, let's go! Help me push it from the left! — Princess Zelda (A Link to the Past)
↑No, soldiers will not do. The Picori do not show themselves to anyone but children. Our soldiers could search for days and still find no sign of them. — King Daltus (The Minish Cap) I see... If that's the case, then why not send Link? — Smith (The Minish Cap) If Link has recovered, then yes, I would like to ask this of him. Please, turn my precious Zelda back to normal. The Picori should know how to create a new sacred sword. — King Daltus (The Minish Cap)
↑You all know of the power the Picori gave to mankind, do you not? The golden light force of limitless magical power... I want it!!! It is somewhere here in Hyrule! Go now, and bring me this power! — Vaati (The Minish Cap)
↑Waste no time! Go forth at once, and bring me the light force! Fling anyone who refuses into the dungeon! Him and his family, too! I will tolerate no disobedience! Now, search high and low throughout the lands of Hyrule! — Vaati (The Minish Cap)
It is said that Hyrule Forest Park began with a single tree planted by the first king and queen of Hyrule. Since then, a tree has been planted each time the throne is succeeded, and now they make up this thriving woodland." — Voice Memories (Zelda Notes, US, June 5, 2025)
Though this throne sits vacant, the space it occupies still speaks volumes. For instance, while the sculpture behind the throne is especially sturdy and serves as a hiding place in an emergency, no one that occupied that seat has ever chosen to use it." — Voice Memories (Zelda Notes, US, June 5, 2025)
The Pristine Sanctum is part of the traditions a retiring Zora king follows upon abdicating their title. It is said that many generations of kings have cleansed their bodies in the pristine waters here, as well as offering one of their scales to this throne. In so doing, they symbolically abandon the earthly world." — Voice Memories (Zelda Notes, US, June 5, 2025)
