Hi there, I'm Tom πŸ‘‹

🌱 About me

I am a Hydrological Data Analyst at the UK Centre of Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH).

  • Since 2025, I have been based at UKCEH, working on UK rainfall data and quality control software.
  • Between 2020 and 2024, I studied for a PhD in the Department of Geography at UCL, where I worked on jet streams and extreme weather.
  • Between 2019 and 2020, I did a few freelance jobs as a spatial data scientist and GIS software developer.
  • In 2019, I received an MSc in Spatial Data Science and Visualisation from the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA), UCL.
  • In 2018, I received a BSc in Geography and Geocomputation from King's College London.

  • RainfallQC - Python package for rainfall quality control based on Polars.
  • RainfallGridder - Python package for interpolating rain gauge data onto a regular grid based on Polars (v1.0.0 coming soon).
  • jsmetrics - Python package for jet stream algorithms based on xarray.

Open-source research software tools I have contributed to

  • RainGaugeMatcha - Python package for matching two lists of rain gauges based on name and location based on Pandas.
  • xclim - Python library of derived climate variables, ie climate indicators, based on xarray.
