KARE - Kerala United Against Rare Diseases

KARE (Kerala United Against Rare Diseases) is a comprehensive care programme initiated by the Government of Kerala to support individuals affected by rare diseases.

About

KARE focuses on:

  • Prevention and early identification
  • Provision of treatment wherever available
  • Access to medicines, appropriate therapies, and assistive technological devices
  • Home-based services and psychosocial support for parents and caregivers

As part of this initiative, the Government of Kerala became the first state in India to launch a state-funded treatment programme for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), which was formally initiated in March 2022.

  • SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy)
  • Gaucher Disease
  • Pompe Disease
  • MPS (Mucopolysaccharidoses)
  • And other rare diseases

Fundraising Goal

Through KARE, we aim to raise ₹100 crore over the next 3 years to ensure uninterrupted care for existing patients and inclusion of other rare disease categories.
