Joseph Anderson
Joseph Fletcher Anderson Jr. is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. He joined the court in 1986 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan.
Early life and education
A native of Augusta, Georgia, Anderson graduated from Clemson University with his bachelor's degree in 1972 and from the University of South Carolina School of Law with his J.D. in 1975.[1]

Anderson was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on September 26, 1986, to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina vacated by Charles Simons. Hearings on Anderson's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on October 1, 1986, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) on October 2, 1986. Anderson was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on October 8, 1986, and he received his commission on October 14, 1986. Anderson served as the district court's chief judge from 2000 to 2007. Anderson elected to take senior status beginning on November 16, 2014.[1][2]
