Our Advent calendar countdowns concluded yesterday, but we have one more article to publish on the subject, which has been written by Marty P.

Hello there! When I was a child, I always had a fascination when playing with LEGO to build small, microscale builds of spaceships with a dozen or so pieces or less. I always rationalised it in my brain as these spacecraft were simply farther away from a forced perspective sense, hence their small relative appearance.
It made sense then that I was always fascinated with the Star Wars advent calendars LEGO would make. I initially missed the early years advent calendars due to being off in college, but I became aware of them later and initially picked some up for the unique minifigures, but found the build experience fun enough to the point I now have the entire series, with duplicates of some of a couple of the ones that I particularly liked.
Because of this fascination and collecting, I have become aware of some trends within the calendars (e.g., roughly every other year you will see a new Gonk droid in the build). I have seen the new 75418 2025 calendar and the surrounding discussion, and my observations led to doing some study of the entire advent series to put some data around what up until now had just been gut feelings.
I had the suspicion that there was some cost engineering going on behind the scenes (that's going on within the entire LEGO brand), but my review has highlighted to me the ways in which it has happened. It has also enabled me to make some overall observations, predictions and suggestions for improvement, which I wanted to share with you. It may be that some of you long-time LEGO enthusiasts have already caught on to these trends. But for even those who didn't explicitly observe this, in the words of another online hack Star Wars critic, you may not have noticed it, but your brain did. Join me, won't you?
Today's random set is 926 Command Centre, released during 1979. It's one of 22 Space sets produced that year. It contains 173 pieces and 4 minifigs.
It's owned by 1,422 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $148.60, or eBay.
Today's random minifigure is sh0391Scarecrow - Reddish Brown Floppy Hat, a Super Heroes figure that came in one set, 70913 Scarecrow Fearful Face-off, released during 2017.
Our members collectively own a total of 7,030 of them. If you'd like to buy one you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $18.90.
Christmas Day has arrived in the UK, so Merry Christmas from the Brickset team! We hope you have a great day and receive some presents with that familiar LEGO rattling sound!
At the time of writing, Brickset members own 47,642,828 sets between us, an increase of over three million compared with the same day last year! As always, it will be interesting to see how the number continues to rise over the next few days, as new sets are added to collections.

The latest Sonic TV adaptation, Sonic Prime, is the franchise’s exploration of a multiverse storyline, exploring many different parallel worlds and characters. The first episode, Shattered, takes place in the familiar Green Hill where Dr. Eggman and his cronies cause lots of mayhem in search of magical gemstones, as they normally do. Is this just a battle against yet another evil machine, or is a devious trick hidden within?
Peace Lillies (Spathiphyllum cochlearispathum) are popular indoor evergreen plants that are easy to grow and propagate, but they do need to be watered regularly otherwise the leaves wilt. They flower frequently, too, usually producing only one flower head at a time, in our house at least.
The specimen in 11504 Peace Lily needs no water and is flowering profusely, so should make an ideal houseplant!
Farming sets are relatively scarce in LEGO City, although their infrequency makes them all the more exciting whenever they are produced and 60498 Tractor looks amazing! The model feels like the culmination of minifigure-scale tractor sets, more realistic than its precursors.
The new front tyres are certainly an important factor in this model's authenticity, although its teal bodywork is also very appealing. I am impressed with the shaping too, so this genuinely seems like a faultless set and an affordable one too, costing £17.99, $19.99 or €19.99.
The last in the series of Chinese Zodiac animals has been revealed. 40779 Year of the Horse completes the set of twelve which, other than the sheep which was the first one released in 2015, have all shared the same design language.
Like the others, it will probably be a gift with purchase at LEGO.com early in the new year.
Only one image is available at the moment: I think it looks a bit cartoonish...
76335 Spider-Man vs. Ghost Rider Motorcycle is only a small set, though an appealing one given Ghost Rider's inclusion. The character has made few minifigure appearances before and never in quite such an affordable set.
Further to the appealing Ghost Rider minifigure, this version of his motorcycle is smaller and potentially easier to integrate with other sets than previous iterations. The low price of £8.99, $9.99 or €9.99 is tempting too, so this has the potential to be a must-have!
