Review: 76250 Wolverine's Adamantium Claws
Posted by CapnRex101,The fantastic 76191 Infinity Gauntlet and 76223 Nano Gauntlet are among my favourite smaller 18+ sets developed recently. The similar 76250 Wolverine's Adamantium Claws therefore looks interesting as well, although the glove's notable simplicity could be problematic.
Admittedly, this design seems faithful to X-Men: The Animated Series and its upcoming continuation, but I query whether Wolverine's claws are suitable for a LEGO model, particularly one costing as much as £64.99, $69.99 or €74.99.
Summary
76250 Wolverine's Adamantium Claws, 596 pieces.
£64.99 / $69.99 / €74.99 | 10.9p/11.7c/12.6c per piece.

Although well-executed, Wolverine's claws are not particularly appealing for display
- Great shaping, on the whole
- Claws are nicely designed
- Bland colour scheme
- Very expensive

The Completed Model
76250 Wolverine's Adamantium Claws is presented in the same way as 76191 Infinity Gauntlet and 76223 Nano Gauntlet. The model thus measures 26cm in height with the fingers clenched, or 37cm including the claws. However, this glove lacks the complexity of the metallic gauntlets and thus more closely resembles the gloves in 76215 Black Panther.
The uniform colour and limited texture are both appropriate though, given the animated source material for this model, which is highlighted on the printed plaque. I do find it strange that only Wolverine's name is shown on the plaque, although this matches the likes of 76251 Star-Lord's Helmet and 76262 Captain America's Shield. Also, the full 'Wolverine's Adamantium Claws' label would struggle to fit here.
As normal, the base is integrated directly with the actual glove, as Technic beams pass through its core. Otherwise, the construction is similar to Black Panther's claws in 76215 Black Panther, as brackets and bricks with studs on the side are used to attach elements in various directions and create the desired organic shape.
The panels connected using clips are particularly familiar, narrowing the glove around the wrist. Narrow gaps are noticeable around these panels, but the dark blue colour slightly reduces their visibility. A lighter shade of blue would have been closer to Wolverine's costume in the animated series, but I think dark blue was probably a good choice because the seams between parts are less obvious in this colour.
Furthermore, I like the occasional studs and the variety of curved slopes. As mentioned earlier, Wolverine's animated garb is relatively basic and lacking in visible texture, so the designer has avoided excessive detail. Even so, those studs break up the silhouette somewhat and I like the ridges across both sides of the wrist.
Similar to the other gauntlets, the fingers and thumb are fully articulated. Each finger features three hinges and they can move outwards a short distance for different poses. However, such articulation is arguably less significant here than on previous sets because Wolverine's fingers should be clenched in fists when his claws are extended.
The claws themselves are definitely the highlight of this model, making excellent use of the 2x2 faceplate element designed for 10302 Optimus Prime to recreate layered armour at the base of the claws. The metallic silver elements on the claws are also appealing, although the light bluish grey pieces behind the layer of drum-lacquered silver are unfortunately conspicuous.
Overall
76250 Wolverine's Adamantium Claws is fundamentally a good rendition of its source material, including the essential features. However, those features are extremely basic and I am unsure whether Wolverine's gloves and claws are distinctive enough for a model of this size. They are undoubtedly iconic, but simple.
The price of £64.99, $69.99 or €74.99 thus seems hugely expensive, particularly in relation to 76191 Infinity Gauntlet and 76223 Nano Gauntlet. After all, those are much more complex and feature a brilliant selection of drum-lacquered elements. Ultimately, I hope there will be far more exciting sets inspired by X-Men '97 still to come.

Good review, I would definitely rather have the $70 lol.
This has no business being $70. Also seems kinda boring. Oh well.
You couldn't pick this set out of a lineup of one.
Idk, from the claw side it looks aight, but the fingers look kind of funky from any other angle. The thumb doesn't really position to represent a fist well and the first knuckle doesn't bend far enough forwards. Can't unsee how goofy the first looks.
Not sure how to feel about this one. My initial reaction, even after reading the review, is fairly positive. That scares me. Maybe I just like silver and blue? I might get this if I see it on a great clearance.
A set made for 1 purpose making 76223 and 76191 look awesome
It's decent but the price is to high for the average quality.
Pure silver claws would be nice or add his dogtag.
The real exciting thing about this set is the release of the 3x2 angled slopes that allow me to recolour 75312 in Jango's colour scheme.
Actual adamantium would be cheaper!
For the price, they should have used chrome silver for the claws
Needed other blue tones to break up all the dark blue. Add more contrast.
And for the price, a Wolverine fig would’ve softened the price a bit.
Displaying it with the middle finger up should better illustrate how many of us feel about the LEGO decision to give us this set at this price to get us stoked up for new X-Men sets.

"Depending on your point in Wolverine's long and storied timeline (and who's drawing it), those chutes aren't part of the glove, but of Wolverine's actual hand. They allowed the claws to come out bloodlessly. Wolverine-with-chutes is the hygienic Wolverine, who at the very least won't stab you to death with claws covered in his own blood. What a considerate guy!
That also very strongly implies that this isn't just a glove; it might well be Wolverine's somehow-severed hand. Whoopserine."
In the 2015 "Old Man Logan" series, Wolverine's hand does get severed. It grows back sans adamantium, so yeah, there's a severed hand out there in the MU somewhere.
But is there only one hand? I mean he has two hands with claws
And are some of the pieces new, or recolored for the first time?
Imagine spending $70 on this.
I'm still hoping they extend the concept to DC and give us a Batarang.

... and don't charge us $300 for it?

You probably have fond memories of Agents.
They should have beefed this one up and given it a mechanism to extend and retract the claws. As it is, it's incredibly boring. When I think of Wolverine I don't think of his glove. I think of his claws shooting out of his glove.
How many of these actually sell? …Twelve? There’s nothing compelling about this. …How’s about you do actual interesting sets based on Wolverine. Like sets that reconstruct famous comic book covers??? …This glove nonsense is just wasteful.
What a weird, dismembered hand of a set, but I can see the point(s) compared to 5008162.
The thumb looks dislocated. Also, a skeletal hand with claws would have been a lot more visually interesting.
A clear contender for the 'worst set of the year' award.
Honestly, amidst all the negativity surrounding this set, I actually quite enjoy the relatively simple and clean look of this glove, and the general silhouette of the model will be appreciated on my shelf. Obviously the price is really bad, but at a 30% discount I would pick this up.
The next LOTR set could be Boromir's right glove. To be followed a year later by Boromir's left glove.

Invisible Woman’s glove? Invisible, of course.
Like someone mentioned earlier this year, next set should be the Hulk's pants.

If you’ve ever read ToyFare Magazine, you’d know that many terrible, unspeakable things have happened in those pants…

Well that would just be redundant when we already have 853647.
