A good review of reasons insurance companies are pulling back from insuring companies that lean on generative AI. Point 4, "The main problem is not just the error, but the incentive not to see it" is especially damning: use of AI not only obscures audit trails, it sets up perverse incentives against accountability, pushing costs and risk to other parts of an organization, its customers, or society. The net result is that whatever "local" advantages AI may provide turn into downstream risk that cannot be easily accounted for. Insurance companies are (rightly) allergic to this state of affairs.

Another example of how (whole)-systems thinking is very helpful for parsing the effects of technology changes like this.

I don't think he should need a full licence - but the registration plate on his private "taxi" is non-compliant (I would be pulled over round here and fined if I drove with such a plate!); and does he have the correct for regularly transporting passengers as part of his business? (not all policies permit this on business insurance, its been an issue at my work for staff who transport service users in their cars as part of care visits)

Perhaps the Council should give him an exemption, but with conditions that he proves he has the appropriate insurance and corrects the spacing on his reg plate (it doesn't set a good example to younger drivers!)

Any or private insurance adjusters in the Butler County, area. My brother is seeking someone.

One night in December while my brother and his wife was watching TV, a truck and a car collided on the road, the truck struck his car, which was parked in his driveway some distance from the road, and pushed it through corner of the garage

His homeowners insurance told him to take it up with the "at fault" drivers , although they sent someone out to do an emergency "plywood" repair to his garage which he got a $2500 bill for. Same for his auto insurance. The at-fault driver's insurance, Geico, told him to take it up with his insurance companies and they would deal with reimbursing the other insurance companies.

Meanwhile, my brother has severe property damage, his auto, that was parked, is totaled, he is paying out of pocket to rent a vehicle, both him and his wife are nervous wrecks, afraid to be outside where it happened and living on pins and needles it will happen again, etc.

Insult Kicker... Because my brother submitted a claim to his auto insurance, they already raised his rates almost $200 per year because of the "watching tv while parked in you driveway accident" he was involved in.

House Update: roofer back today because we had a new leak 😭😭😭 - turned out he missed a but of lead flashing - so no harm done and is replacing it today. A much more serious problem is the other wall which is causing a lot of consternation. Today’s job is stripping it out to see if there’s any rubble behind causing the damp to gather. Then we’ll need it framed and boarded which I cannot do myself so hoping to get a price next week. Need to get this done before the insurance guys come back to decorate.

A patch of damp on a gable end wall which isn’t caused by the storm damage and isn’t shifting with the dehumidifiers.

"Oregon is poised to become the first state in the nation to eliminate out-of-pocket costs for follow-up testing after an abnormal cervical cancer screening."

Sen. Deb Patterson, D-Salem, the bill’s chief sponsor, told members of the House Committee on Health Care last week that women with an abnormal Pap smear can face between $750 and $1,200 in out-of-pocket costs for follow-up testing, even if they have insurance.

“This co-payment is a prohibitive barrier to women getting the care they need, and it leads to deaths that should be preventable,” Patterson said. “No patient should have to choose between a significant expense or finding out whether or not they actually do have cervical cancer.”

The admin’s proposed new rules for plans next year would shift more costs to Americans, with much higher deductibles leading to higher bills.

Under the proposal, people who rely on the for their coverage could choose plans with misleading lower monthly premiums that would leave them exposed to medical expenses totaling thousands of dollars more than plans do now before their would kick in.

I don't know the specifics of that case but let me make a general point. (I might do a blog post as well).

We have experience of using travel insurance - here's my advice.

No matter where you are going in the world outside of your home country - you must have travel insurance with medical cover (that's 'must' as you're on extremely thin ice if you don't).

You don't know if you'll fall down steps, get hit by a speeding car, or get a random illness.

If you are British then your GHIC card will get you basic care in Europe, if you're an EU resident then your EHIC will be the same.

But if you need more than basic care (and it can be very basic) and/ or you need expensive medicine and/or need flying home then you will need travel insurance.

Your GHIC card may cover the medical bill but maybe not the medicines, care or food.

                                                  It's expensive but buy it.

I would have to pay $860.

We've been talking about how 2025 was likely to have been the last year of our big European adventure holidays.
Even foreign package trips are starting to look difficult in the future.

It's purely and simply the cost of travel insurance for us both.

Despite all 's blathering about a "golden age" (for himself & his billionaire buddies, maybe), most Americans know what they see on their grocery receipts, rent, utility bills, and hyperinflated health premiums. Vance has no personality, but he sees the Trump train is derailing; his only option to keep what power he has is to switch onto a spur line. So he's breaking with Trump and claiming to side with ordinary Americans on the economy.

Don't imagine he cares about them, only their votes.

And so the news that major insurers are now seeking to limit their liability in corporate insurance claims where AI is involved, suggests another weakness in the AI investment boom might be about to emerge,

If you cannot get insurance, then AI starts looking a little different in fiduciary terms (with risk rising?)
