We have seen the testimony of Todd Lyons (the acting head of ICE), Rodney Scott (the head of CBP), and Citizenship and Immigration Services director Joseph Edlow.
They do not think their employees are doing anything wrong. I do, and I want to know what you are going to do now.
The stories continue of 70 people crammed in a tiny cell with limited food and water for weeks at a time. DHS officers are beating people, breaking bones, zip tying teenagers, denying access to lawyers, and ignoring court orders. No one holds DHS accountable for the violence and the violations of the Constitution.
We see refugees and documented asylum seekers held incommunicado for weeks despite being legally in this country. No one holds DHS accountable for this.
I see Republicans in Congress respond by seeking legislation to punish Americans exercising their First Amendment rights.
I want to know your plan. Do we let DHS continue to trample the Constitution? Do we green-light Republican plans to crack down on free speech?
The people are in the streets demanding change. I write to you constantly demanding change.

I would like an explanation as to why the high-powered supercomputing facility used to run advanced forecasting and climate models is being (according to this Republican Administration) "transferred to an outside entity."
This supercomputer is essential to forecasting extreme weather and dangerous aviation turbulence, and it is used by roughly 1,500 researchers from more than 500 universities nationwide.
This supercomputing facility, which was paid for using my tax dollars, is essential for simulating weather systems and testing forecast models — work that ultimately helps improve the accuracy of the forecasts Americans rely on daily.
I want this supercomputer facility remain in public, not private hands. Please tell this Republican Administration to cease any planned transfer. Pass legislation keeping this critical facility in government hands.

Its premise, that there is widespread voting by non-citizens, has been thoroughly debunked. Fraudulent votes of all types (including a spouse voting for a recently deceased partner) represented less than 0.002 percent of all votes cast in six battleground states in 2020, according to an AP analysis. That’s roughly 475 fraudulent votes out of 25 million cast—and existing local systems caught the erroneous ballots.
Under the SAVE Act, an estimated 69 million women and 4 million men have legal names that do not match their birth certificates due to marriage, divorce, or other life changes. While an estimated half of all White Americans hold a valid US passport, only about one-third of people of color do. At least 21 million American adults do not have or cannot easily access the documents required by the SAVE Act.
The intent of this bill is not voting integrity but voter suppression.

HHS Secretary Kennedy has said that a fragmented health care system has encouraged people with mental illness and addiction to cycle endlessly between sidewalks, emergency room visits, jails and mental hospitals and shelters.
In 1981, when President Reagan cut funding for mental hospitals, he rightly claimed that people would be better served by small, community-based clinics. There was a plan at the time for every community to have one mental health/addiction focused in-patient bed for every 5,000 residents. The Republican Party at the time hailed the plan, then never funded it., so it never happened.
HHS Secretary in the meantime is advancing a vision of abstinence-only recovery, while simultaneously rejecting harm-reduction and housing-first strategies that have been shown to create stability, trust, and sustained engagement in care.
We cannot keep putting band-aids on this problem of a fragmented healthcare system.
Please draft a comprehensive overhaul of our healthcare system that includes adequate services for those with addiction and mental illness. Please make sure everyone has a secure, sheltered place to sleep. The $19 billion annual ICE budget would more than cover the cost.

I want a legitimate answer to this question, because DHS is not following the law, and no one in Congress seems to do anything to make it stop.
I am reading the legal documents showing the 96 court orders that ICE has violated in 74 cases in Minnesota in January. Yes, you read that right. In one month, in one state, ICE has violated 96 different court orders.
The detention without lawful authority is a profound constitutional injury that unfairly falls on the heads of those who have done nothing wrong to justify it. The overwhelming majority of the hundreds seen by the Minnesota District Court have been found to be lawfully present as in the country, yet they are still detained for weeks. They are transferred to Texas within hours of their arrest, then languish there for weeks before being released.
Is the Constitution dead? What else could it mean when a federal agency can violate a court order with no consequence from Congress?
This must stop. I don't want anyone in Congress getting any rest until you fix this situation.

Trump Administration to Cut $600 Million in Health Funding From Four States
The Trump administration plans to rescind $600 million in public health funds from four states led by Democrats because it finds the grants “inconsistent with agency priorities,” according to documents reviewed by The New York Times.

I’m not arguing policy. At issue is a fundamental question of whether we'll honor the constitutional structure that delegates election administration to the states. That authority cannot be seized by executive fiat or even congressional action; it can happen only by amending the Constitution itself.
The pretext for this power grab—claims of widespread voting by non-citizens—has been thoroughly debunked. A Brookings analysis of Heritage Foundation data reveals the truth: for example, in a 25-year period in Arizona, 36 fraudulent votes accounted for 0.0000845% of ballots cast across 36 elections. Voter fraud is not altering election outcomes.
The federal government, via laws and court rulings, has limited authority over federal elections. Our state and local officials run secure elections. What we urgently need are leaders willing to say so publicly and to draw a clear line against unconstitutional federal overreach.

President Trump exceeded his authority by renaming the Center without Congressional approval. Once again unilaterally governing via his digital network, Truth Social, Trump announced Sunday night that he would close the Kennedy Center July 4, 2026 for a two year “renovation.”
The Kennedy Center requires no structural overhaul. Congress provides its capital and maintenance budget annually and would be aware of any such needs. I am concerned about exceeding authority as well as precedent: if this president can rename and redesign a Congressional memorial without authorization, to what might other presidents apply similar overreach?
I urge you to join Representative Joyce Beatty in reasserting Congressional oversight and halting these unauthorized actions. The Kennedy Center deserves to remain what Congress intended: a dignified memorial and cultural institution for all Americans not a gilded monstrosity more aligned with the Las Vegas strip, which would reflect the President’s well-known aesthetic.

And once that physical chaos has been created, it will be blamed on the immigrants who are no longer there. Most of this has already played out. A key threshold, which it appears that we are about to cross, is the application of the state violence. At that point, so to speak, the lie is supposed to become “true.”

In the schools and churches of Springfield, Ohio, people are making hasty preparations for a “large deportation” promised by the president. To all appearances, and according to local sources, the city is two or three days away from a federal ethnic cleansing, grounded in a hate campaign organized by the vice-president and American Nazis. The destined victims are ten thousand or more Haitians.From Timothy Snyder's substack. Note the use of the phrases "ethnic cleansing" and "hate campaign", which are accurate. Snyder later states, regarding his use of the word "Nazi", "I use the word advisedly". It's well worth reading what he says about that. J.D. Vance's words led to a self-professed US Nazi group terrorizing Springfield Ohio. Snyder spells out how the hyperreality--the non-existent parallel and false world Vance set in motion and then Trump amplified--is turning into real-world consequences for real people.

Here's one point: masked thugs in mismatched camo are breaking laws that include abducting, assaulting, and executing people, and the regime is attempting to force us all to refer to this as "law enforcement". For all the many criticisms one might aim at US law enforcement, members typically wear blue, show their faces, and doctrinally aspire to behave transparently and professionally (please don't @ me with your critiques of law enforcement or hashtag ACAB comments; this is not meant as a defense, only a contrast. I've been beaten and teargassed by cops and witnessed far worse so I am acquainted with this aspect of US "law enforcement").
In other words the regime is attempting to change consensus reality so that Americans accept that the phrase "law enforcement" includes random, unprovoked breaking and entering by heavily armed masked men into homes or vehicles, assaults, and summary executions on the street, targeting all citizens. They want this to be a normal and accepted occurrence anywhere and at any time. Much as one might criticize previous administration's immigration policies---and one might really really criticize those---this attempt to shift consensus on "law enforcement" to include summary executions of anyone and all the rest is new (It is not new for certain groups; what I think Snyder is saying is that it'd be new for everyone to be targeted in this way, and for most people to accept that's just how it is now).
Snyder also points out that the border plays an important role here because it is where the country, and therefore the law, ends. In other words, it's not coincidental that the regime chose to elevate ICE. Historically, authoritarian regimes have a marked tendency to expand the lawlessness and indefiniteness of border zones to include the entire territory of the country, and the current regime is no different. Immigrants and immigration aren't the only targets here. The larger aim is to indefinitely suspend the rule of law nationwide by making the entire nation into a border zone (Recall the Texas governor kidnapping immigrants and shipping them to "blue states", a classic attempt to spread resentment of immigrants throughout the country). Again, this is a narrative move, an attempt to shift consensus reality.
So, one way to resist is to simply not accept either of these attempts to change reality. Continue to refer to what's happening as unacceptable, not who we are, etc. Continue to point out that out of control border "enforcement" has led to street executions. Continue to name these actions as the criminal acts of thugs. Continue to pressure people with power, such as lawmakers, to do the same. Not out of some misguided or naive nationalism or patriotism, but in order to keep a stake firmly planted in the ground against the forces attempting to move it. This is something we can all do.
Incidentally, all eyes on Haitian and Haitian-American people in Ohio over the coming weeks. The Haiti Temporary Protected Status designation ends this coming Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Haitians in Springfield were specifically abused during the Trump campaign. The US has a long history of abusing and dehumanizing Haitians dating back at least to Thomas Jefferson, so the Trump campaign rhetoric was no outlier or anomaly. Haiti is also one of the countries specifically named in the US State Dept's announcement about indefinitely halting immigrant visa processing. It would not be surprising if the next ICE "surge" targeted Haitian immigrants in Ohio given how the groundwork's been laid.
