About half a year ago I switched from Spotify to Tidal. While in a wider view the both are so similiar, that I would recommend the switch, here are a few things that bother me:
- when you pause a song on your phone and then want to continue to listen, it starts over the song.
- same thing happens with albums. Say you are listening to an album and you pause (i.e. because you need to attend a meeting at work) then come back and want to continue to listen after a while, it starts over the whole album (is this a cookie thing?)
- the phone app, the desktop app and the web player are not synced. So I can't listen to an album or a playlist on my way to work on my phone and then continue to listen to that same album or playlist on my computer at work. Instead it will start over (see above) the album that I was listening to yesterday on the web player.
In my day to day use those are just small things that bother me a little. Minor bugs really. I'd still recommend switching to Tidal or any other service that pays better per stream than spotify.

Can anyone tell me why there are no big artists on Bandcamp? I wanted to use it as my main app for listening to music but many artists I like are not on there… I heard that their labels prevent them from putting their music on Bandcamp. AI Slop, Music, Spotify [SENSITIVE CONTENT]
Well it seems like #Spotify is the first platform I use that is becoming unusable due to AI slop. Today every second title is AI generated and it sucks to block the "artist" every time only to get another slop. I used to like the random playlists to discover new artists but this is the past. Looks like I finally have to stick to the artists I know and recommendations of people I know combined with a local library. I doubt the other platforms are any better.
Next up two things to get off of:
Spotify and US file backup
For #Spotify I’m going to dig into #funkwhale, perhaps with a couple of friends. And maybe rebuild my mp3/ogg collection. Guess that cd/dvd reader I got is going to actually have some ROI.🤓
For file backup I’m looking at a couple of European alternatives, but haven’t committed to one yet. Ideally locally and cloud combi. Open to suggestions.*

Angeregt von der Kampagne und einem Boost von @lassen@mastodon.social sind wir vorhin musikalisch von Spotify zu Qobuz umgezogen. Kannte ich bislang noch nicht. Bisher bin ich vom Angebot und der Soundqualität sehr begeistert Die Gestaltung der App ist anders, aber für mich intuitiver und nützlicher als bei Spotify. My fellow homelabbers: which sultion would you recommend if you would like to build a Spotify like Streaming Service for youre family with music you have in a local library?
Important would be that there is an App for at least iPhone/iPad and that things like smart playlists, multiuser etc ist supported so everybody could use the same big catalog but with its own playlists, favourits etc.
If have already found three projects which could be okay: Navidrome, Funkwhale and Koel.
Any thoughts about this? Which route would you go?

Amazon Basics Smart Dimmer Switch and Remote for Music and Routines
It's good for falling asleep to music as a basic physical remote control for volume, track skipping etc, without having to wake yourself up yelling commands or looking at a bright screen.
I do wish it came with a dedicated TPU soft case / cover to protect it from falling off the bed onto a hard floor.
Also when I initially set it up, I could setup *both* long press and single tap for a total of 8 commands.
It happened to fall on the hard floor so I had to reset it. And now I only get one option for each button. Anyone have ideas how to go about fixing this, thank you.

Well, I did it: subscribed to #Tidal and transferred my #Spotify playlists. Spent $6 extra for the family plan so our adult kids can escape Spotify too. Once Lyricdancer retrieves her playlists I'll cancel Spotify, and I encourage others to do the same.
