Collections from JVO Triptych

As a friend of my daughter's says, yesterday I had a little "me" time.

I went shopping and scored a few things that make me happy. One being some Recollections cling mount stamps at Michael's. Oh, I LOVE how tiny they are in this set. PERFECT for mini-collage or whatever.

And so I decided to play.

Here's a mini tutorial for using a few fun things.

Start with cutting 3 of the rounded top houses from Tim's Artful Dwellings set using a thin chipboard. I get 30x30 inch sheets from the art supply section.

I covered the fronts with Antique Tissue Paper-Victorian from Collections. I used Claudine's Multi-Medium and a brush to glue papers. Add Distress Inks as you like.

Then I stamped with the new little set of stamps and Coffee Archival Ink.

This is shown after I'd put it together to show how I added black permanent ink to the seems of the canvas with a pen.

Julie van Oosten, owner of Collections Elements, had sent me some wonderful things awhile back and I'd just not found time to use them. Check out here blog here for wonderful ideas and products.

This paper is from the Vintage Rose 6x6 Collection. Gorgeous papers in such a fun size.

Next add Sticky Back canvas that's been colored with Fired Brick and Vintage Photo Distress Inks to the seems on the BACK of your Triptych.

 This shows the last piece before the papers are added. Leave enough between the 3 pieces for it to fold.  Die cut your papers, stamp as you like, and glue over canvas hinges.

Flip over and you can decorate to your hearts content. Add ribbon, glass bottles, metal and chipboard ephemera.

Pen dots always added for just a bit more fun!!!

Haberdashery Tag

Well, we seem to have a new layout and set of options for the blog.

So far, pretty cool!!!

I kinda like the new options where we can upload pics as we go.

And Preview along the way, too.

This is using the new Tim set of stamps Haberdashery.

I love the way they jump out from the bright colors I used. 

We have Mustard Seed, Barn Door, Aged Mahogany, and Broken China with just a smidge of Chipped Sapphire.

The green is created by blending the China and Mustard.

Pretty Cool, heh?



I used the Tattered Floral Die with Metal Foil Tape on Grungepaper...this stuff is too fun....and a Texture Fade Dot Matrix to emboss.
Then apply the Denim and Lettuce Alcohol Inks to the metal.

Add some Silver Paint Dabber to the Philosophy Tag to make the letters and numbers show up better.

The little neckline piece is a piece of Lavish Trimming cut in half. Kind of cute.

The Trinket Pin is hung with Jump Rings through the tied bow.

Now this was the fun part. I took the Manila Tag #8 and the new Die Mini Scallops and Pinking to trim the bottom.
That's the blue color on the bottom.

Then the piece that was cut off is turned over and inked with Distress Inks in Reds.
Stamped with the Millinery stamp from Adverts set and glued over the tag to form the contrasting reverse scallop.

I raised the Ruler Ribbon onto heavy Chipboard for dimension.
The little Snaps are from my stash. Discontinued, I think.

Add the Baubles to the flower with a couple of Jump Rings.
Three tiny pearls were added to the neck of the dressform.....and that's it.

I did layer it onto black cardstock. I like that for contrast with the colors.

Halloween in Wonderland Printer's Tray

Like my friend Deb said, "kinda like making a doll house." I absolutely LOVE these papers....from the moment I saw them. The colors are always a treat with Graphic 45, and the fine detail, but these were above and beyond.

What a treat to work with them!!!!!

So when I got my 8x8 tablet the first thing I wanted to do was start cutting them apart....It only seems right. But always save the 2nd copy of the page if you can. Just in case you like to look at it again. It's a sickness.


I used the 7Gypsies Printer's Tray that is so wonderful because it needs nothing to get started! It's already painted black AND distressed! What more could I ask for? I paint most everything black anyway.

This is a closeup of the detail in the top row. It's my favorite. The Rabbit collage is 4 layers of papers. I like to use pop dots to bring dimension to everything, and let the larger pieces go "out of the box."

I made some elements brighter or toned them down with Distress Inks (of course). And it's very hard to see, but I used Glossy Accents on several pieces, like the Candy Corn, the Cheshire Cat on the bottom, and the Pocket Watch top corner for more dimension.

I've had the little gold charms forever. Don't know who made them or where I got them, but they were perfect since they were from Alice in Wonderland. If someone knows the info, let me know and I'll give credit. They had to be from a convention somewhere.

Secret Bird Society Altered Box

I LOVE turquoise and brown together. I LOVE the new KaiserCraft 6x6 paper pads, chipboard cutouts, tag books, and coordinating stamps. They take all the guesswork out of putting a project together. The tags are too cute, and they fit perfectly on the 6 sides of the box.

Having said that, this is a box that I made with the Secret Bird Society collection and all their products in this line. I used some Distress Ink, and Distress Stickles here and there. Tombow pens were used for added color on the top chipboard pieces.

Lots of Glaze Pen marks to add some dimension. Add chipboard scraps to lift the little pieces up a bit. The clear stamps have fabulous detail!

Their stamps were stamped randomly to cover every little bit of space I could find. The papers around the box lid are too wonderful. The pictures do not show the gorgeous gold metallic script in the turquoise paper, but it is my favorite of the whole set.

If you want a bunch of great stuff with everything imagined for you, you cannot go wrong with Kaiser.....thanks a bunch Melissa!!! It was great fun making this project.

The class yesterday at PAS was fantastic. A mix of Newbies and Masters to create a great blend of fun. The Desk Organizer class was sold out by then end of the day....but they decided to add a couple of more seats! So act now!

A Dream is a Wish .........

....Your Heart Makes. Lots of new stuff from Tim Holtz in this little piece.


I used the new Lavish Trimmings Roses and the Elastic Centered gorgeous trim. They come in a set of 3 trims. Very cool. I added the new Sapphire Distress Ink and Victorian Velvet to the edges.

The papers are all from the paper stash Shabby Chic. The Alterations Dies were Heart Wings and Ornate - On the Edge.

I diecut the edge off the one end of the chipboard rectangle, and glued it to the other end for dimension. I LOVE layers.

The saying is from the new 100th Collection set of Tim's - Odds and Ends.

The wings were painted with the Silver acrylic paint Dabber. Great new design in the soft bottle. So easy to use.

Back To School-Oh Happy Day!

Well, the summer is officially over for the kids. It's back to school time for the youngest ones here. And they are BOTH so HAPPY! Yeah! Thank you for that. They got the teachers they wanted, but had to wait almost all summer to find out...and the anguish was bad. I love that commercial where the parents are gliding though the store on a shopping cart, soooo happy, because its time for school to start!

The only grandson is getting a mouth full of metal today......braces for the boy!

Alex it will all be worth it. Look at your sister's gorgeous smile. Try not to see the fangs that come out at night! Oh, Edward, she is here waiting for you.

I'll probably pay for that.....

Anyway. Finished up instructions that I had to write. They are the least fun in the course of making projects, but a must. Something fun for you guys and exciting to tell you when I can....you'll be the first to know. (nothing huge Lori, you're a hoot!) Stay tuned.



Off to the printer for class instructions and labeling tape for all the new Distress Inks....it's about time I did that. Need 6 more feet of desktop for everything. Had to order another one of these from RANGER....LOVE THEM!

And thanks to all of you who wrote to congratulate me on the Tim Holtz Design Team. It really means a lot. Not everyone has a link I can email back to, so just know, every comment is gratefully received! I will have some new classes that will definitely be in the area, and we'll use Tim Stuff for SURE!

Today was a "me" day.....

Yesterday I worked hard on getting kits together. Today I decided to take a day and play like I haven't done in a long time....well, a month or so.

And this pencil holder I got at Prairie Art Stamps a while back was calling my name.......so here is my first project as a Tim Holtz Designer! I had a great time, and the hours just slipped away.

All papers are from Tim's Lost and Found and Retro Grunge. They are his Stamps, Idea-ology pieces, Tissue Tapes, and Distress Inks.

I used Wild Honey and Vintage Photo on the kraft paper piece. They REALLY go well together!!!!

The sayings are some of my favorites. They are good ones to get you through the day. The Tissue Tape just brightened up the sides a bit. I layered the 2 sayings on the sides to give them a bit more dimension. And the Word Sticks are what we all need in our lives....FIND TIME...to do what we LOVE!

What do you get.....

....when you mix UTEE BRIGHTZ, Texture Fades, Distress ink and Tissue Tape?

~I don't know....but this was sure fun!!!

I'm laying in bed after reading a sweet email from Suze. She can make my day. And it's about using the UTEE in my blog.

Well, this idea pops into my head. Bill is asleep, Emma is asleep (she had a crying jag to go to daycare and agreed if she could have a sleepover at Nana's).

Whatchagonnado?

So anyway, I thought, let's emboss some paper, rub the embossing ink over the raised part, and add some UTEE!!! Now, you're going to get a wonderful blotchy effect because the UTEE is bigger pieces of powder, and that's what makes this soooooo cool!!! Had to get up and try it, it was only 11:30PM.

Use 2 colors and add bits into each other to make great contrasting colors show up. Ink again, and drop bits of the UTEE into the mix as you heat. Then add your Distress Inks. I used Rusty Hinge, Marmalade, Vintage Photo (sparingly) and Victorian Velvet last for punch.

The UTEE colors are Green Zinnia and Spruce Green. And they are BRIGHT....hence the name. They REALLY rock together. I LOVE the Rustic-Grunge look to this!

The Spruce is what is on the hand of the clock from last post. It turned a gorgeous blue-green on the metal.... I loved it. I already had the Bingo piece done with Glossy Accents.

Take a black ATC, add some Tissue Tape, it looks great on the black, has an opaque color. And add one of Tim's great vintage shots from Lost and Found papers. These papers are the COOLEST papers EVVA! No picking and choosing, trying to decide, the whole pack is OUTSTANDING. An absolute must in my book.

Layer it up, add pieces of Idea-ology if you like, and it's done!

I'll leave you with shots from my visit from the oldest Granddaughter and her friend last weekend. They came to play in the Studio and make more Grungepaper bracelets for themselves and their boyfriends.

It turned out to take longer and be more work than they anticipated. I think there were more on the list for presents, but the arms gave out. Ha, wimps!

The glass bottles are filled with with ribbons and have a little tag that says "Drink Me" with stamped images of keys and clocks on the outside. They must have seen Alice in Wonderland.

I've gotten 2 classes together and working on a third for the end of summer and into the fall. Things are coming along. Then we're off to cool climates later in the week! Yay, it's only supposed to be in the 70's there next week!!!!!

And can I also say USA, USA, USA.....and congrats to England. They both advance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.....to everyone who visited Teresa's blog and left a comment!!! You guys are THE BEST. Working "out of the box" sometimes is great experience. You really push the envelope and try new things.

BUT, ha, this is where I really love to work. In the GRUNGE, or VINTAGE area.

This is what I find easier to put together. Maybe because I've done more of it, I don't know.

This was so much fun.

Tim stuff, of course, the little dots around the edge are with the new Black Enamel Accents from Ranger. And I used Chipped Sapphire on the blue paper.

The flowers are with Tim's Die, Tattered Florals, sprayed with Luminarte, and stamped with the Artful Artifacts alphabet stamp. Olive Archival Ink was used on the background blue paper ( all 3 of Tim's great paper stacks are in this) and another one of Tim's stamps. (Hey, the man can really design STAMPS!)

Since this is a shadow box, it was hard to photograph without a shadow. But the BOX is from Petaloo. Their All White Peony Box Blends comes in this VERY cool black slider box! I LOVED it!

The Tissue Tape around the box worked out just perfect. That stuff is a MUST. WAY cool!!!

The rest of the embellishments are from Tim, except one little flower center.

Now, for the Luminarte, man, is it FULL of mica. It is really, really, fun to work with. You can't believe the shine of this stuff. I'd show you something I'm working on, but you know the old %@&**, it's a secret.

These paints have been around for a long time, but Creative Imaginations just "new and improved" them. You can paint, spray, daub, and do all kinds of wonderful things with them. You know them as Twinkling H2O's and Radiant Rains.

So keep an eye to the sky. I'll be back with some more fun stuff I've done in the last few months that I've been saving.

Stamping Again

I really haven't stamped something major for a long time. And it's really what I love to do, so I dug out the most recent Tim stamps and used David from Artful Artifacts for the 1st time.

He really has a very haunting look, don't you think? I used the Vintage Shabby papers and Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink..........oohhhh, it is so rich! Love it.

The baubles in the foreground are just a few of the pieces I picked up at the Junction City Art show in Anecdotes. That is such a cool shop.

Sports today......our Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup, and today we'll be watching the Americans in World Cup Soccer. Hopefully it will be a good game.

Layers and Layers

Everybody who knows me knows that I love to layer stuff...on chipboard, on metal, on paper...I love layers.

The Queen of Layers wrote a great book that got me started...Layers by Shari Carroll. If you don't have it, you should really check it out!

Anyhow, Tim's new die cuts from Alterations just make a whole new dimension available with layers using die cut pieces.

This is just a peek at something I worked up with paper, canvas, paint, inks, stamps, Idea-ology and paper. Fun, fun, fun!!!!!

Busy time, working on assignments and trying to keep up with life in general.

Vintaj Brass and the Cuttlebug

Before the Dragonfly is added...the inks and brass are hard to get a good pic of with glare changing the colors.....brass looks silver here...but ink colors are more accurate.

Jess from Vintaj sent me some brass a couple of months ago. It's really cool plates that are 3x3 and various other sizes. I drew a blank.

She has said it can go through the Cuttlebug and get embossed. I was skeptical to say the least. This stuff is HEAVY!

Well, I'm here to report, I was really wrong!!!! THIS STUFF IS SOOOO COOL!

You just send it through the Cuttlebug and it works!!! AMAZING!!!

After you emboss, use Alcohol Inks in various bright colors and a paint brush to color the recessed areas. Add tiny drops of Blending Solution to create cool affects. I also used some Metallic Mixative Gold on the blank and the Dragonfly. Sand off the numbers to remove any unwanted ink.

I glued the blank to chipboard to raise it. The little wooden box was painted with Landscape Green from Claudine Hellmuth's collection, and aged with Distress Inks.

The papers are from the 7Gypsies 6x6 pack Gypsie Market. VERY COOL papers.

I traced and cut each section, added stamps and distress ink and glued to the box with Matte Multi-Medium from Claudine. When dry, add another layer of the medium to seal.

The Dragonfly is glued with Crafter's Pick. I used a dry brush technique to add the Gold Mixative. Love how that worked out.

Milly - A Vintage Layout

My husband's mother Mildred.

The Velvet Roses and Butterflies are wonderfully vintage.

A little Tea Dye Distress Ink is added across the butterfly to show the embossing.

This is a layout of my husband's mom circa 1920's. Her family were miners and so the formal clothing was a bit out of caracter for her. I love this photo and wanted to be able to see it preserved.

The papers are from Creative Imaginations and I used the new Thin Wood Birch to die cut the butterfly and trim inside the photo. The Cuttlebug works great with this new product to cut and emboss.

I LOVE the Velvet Roses and Butterflies from Petaloo!!! So elegant and truly vintage looking. The other flowers are Color Me Crazy and Celebrations. You can create any color you want with the Color Me Crazy flowers. Ink, paint, stamp, glitter....the possibilities are endless.

Well, the move is over, but the picture hanging and the 3, yes 3, shower curtains, numerous window colverings, and a million toys are getting into place. It is a fabulous home, and they never had to have ONE open house. Unbelievable!!!

Maybe I can get back to my artwork now. Shipments of STUFF are arriving every few days. So I should have no excuse not to do something!!! The birdcage project was fun....have to wait to show that to you later.

The new Tim Idea-ology things are FABULOUS!!!!! Need I say more?????

Tornado season is here, so the hot and wonderful days sometimes end with a wicked storm and downpours at night. Ya gotta live somewhere, but here it's always something.

Happy Easter

I seemed to have forgotten to show you Emma hunting her Easter eggs from a previous year in one of my Creative Imaginations DT projects.

This was using the Felicity line on a wooden frame. I added Distress Inks....can't be without them...and black Glaze pen marks and stamping to make the colors pop.

The stickers and chipboard pieces from CI match up beautifully. I love the big Color Me Crazy flower from Pelaloo behind the bird. It was inked, pen lined, and stamped. The opportunities are endless with these flowers. (If you want to see some incredable work with flowers, click here and look at the new DT works. They are a remarkably talented group of ladies!)

The white chipboard brings out wonderfully bright and clean Distress Inks for about any color you want. I used the new Chipped Sapphire and Wild Honey as well as the old standby Peeled Paint. Mixing colors also works great when you need that "exact" color to go with your project.

We went out last night to celebrate the end of "the move" for the kids. I'm too old for this!!!! Ribs and Tiramasu....with a Wine and Advil chaser.

Works for me!

Piling It On with Idea-ology

Look what you can do with the new Charms and Timepieces from Tim's fabulous Idea-ology pieces!!!! SEVEN pieces of metal used here.

Is this fun, or what?

The Grungeboard background is embossed, heavily inked, sprayed, stamped, and sewn on the sewing machine. I used Tim's new Urban Chic stamps...VERY COOL!!!

It's hard to see, but there is a Snap that is layered under the Spinner that has had a hole punched in it. Several holes were strategically punched to get this thing to fit together.

Engineer a project and have fun!!!!

Cold and ugly here today....reading an unbelievable book today by Michael Lewis. It's called The Big Short- Inside the Doomsday Machine, and is about the causes of our recent financial crisis. Everyone should read this book. Truly an education. Jaw dropping!

Teresa Collins Shaker Box

I've always been drawn to the combination of Black, Ivory, Red and Brown. So while I was in Scrapbook Friend'z the other day, I saw a bunch of papers by Teresa Collins that caught my attention.

I bought 3 Shaker boxes years ago and have only used one. I decided to drag the middle one down and play around with it.......the sun was shining, the silly Daffodils were coming up (they will be sorry at some point I'm sure), and the birds seemed to have come out of nowhere....finally.

These papers are wonderful, but I wanted to add just a hint of blue to add interest instead of my usual brown. Hence, a bit of turquoise. But it was very white in the light spots, so, I used the Antique Linen Distress Ink to make it fit in better.

You can make almost any paper blend in with the right Distress Ink!!!!! And since I needed more red and black paper, I used the new Barn Door on the black and white paper..........now it's black and RED!!!!! Ta Da!

I cut out the flowers with the Sizzix die and a small punch...added a bit of Distress Ink.... a Teresa Collins stamp to the blue petals....some dots.....and of course a rhinestone in the middle for a bit of bling.

Tie some tulle around the handle and it's ready to sit out for Jerry the Easter Bunny (Emma's Friend) to hide something in.

Upcoming class

Time has really gotten away from me. The Olympics, the kids updating their house for market...SELLING the house!!! And it's almost spring!!!

By the end of next week it should be warming up a bit....then it will finally feel like Spring might be on the way.

In light of that, I thought I'd remind you of the TWO projects in the upcoming class on MARCH 13th at Scrapbook Friend'z. Not one, but TWO!

So the pictures are here for you to look at. Spring colors of Green and Pink. Happy colors and couple of fun things to learn with Metal, Grungepaper, Perfect Pearls, and Flowers.

I have all the new molds from Ten Seconds Studios you can use!!!!!!!!!!! And I'll show you the new colors of metal, too. GORGEOUS colors!!!!! I'll post a project I made later in the week with the new colors and molds.

Of course, we'll have to Distress Ink, Stamp, and glue to keep it interesting.

Best Friends

When my friend Fran moved to South Carolina, Bill and I decided to drive down and see her new home. We loved the south and the gorgeous flowers, the homes, and of course the history.

This is a picture taken at a Southern Plantation down my the river. The tour was wonderful. The flowers were everywhere and the butterflies really enjoyed them. It was overcast, so a sunny shot was not in order, but I still love the picture.

This is using the new Petaloo flowers and Mon Ami papers from Creative Imaginations. They are so beautiful. A perfect combination that practically puts themselves together.

We also got some great news.....Jeff and Ann sold the house!!!!!!!!!!! In less than a week, they had accepted an offer and on their way to the bank. WOW! All the hard work seems to have paid off....moving end of MARCH!!!! You know what that means.....Advil!

I AM SOOOOOO TIRED!!!!

We've been working non-stop for the past 5 days helping the kids get their house ready to put on the market tomorrow!!! No pressure here....painting, sanding, washing walls, changing outlets, doorknobs, and handles, patching holes in the walls, and PACKING STUFF!!!

Unbelievable what we got done in such a short time. The house REALLY looks good, and we look like, well *%@)! Bill and I are TOAST!

Anybody get time to watch the Olympics???? We had our own, and I think we may have gotten a Bronze.

So, I can post a picture of a really fun project I did using Bare Elements and Creative Imagination papers. I LOVE the way Tim's Bookplate fits on the front.

This is an eyeglass holder, with a magnetic closure, that tips up with the bookplate to open. I used Ranger Alcohol Inks to color the plate the way I wanted. Stamps from Stampers Anonymous really add to the papers as well as pen marks and Distress Inks.

Now if I just remembered to put my extra pair of glasses in there I could find them when I needed them......wouldn't that be nice!!!!
