War of the Roses at Nashcon 2018 -

Me and my friend Titch run this game every year. This is a project that we have been slowly working on since 1999. The goal has been to add a unit or two every year and fight a scenario at Nashcon every year using all of our forces! The first table we used was probably 4x4 and now we have grown to a 6x20 table! We couldn't it all the troops on our table this year and will definitely have to use a 24 ft long table next year!

We use a slightly modified version of Medieval Tactica. It's a simple set of rules, with hand fulls of six sided dice that is perfect for convention games. We played a scenario based on 1461's battle of Mortimer's Cross. We played to a conclusion in about 3-4 hours!

Here are some pics from two 25mm War of the Roses games we recently played. I enjoy using Arty Conliffe's excellent "Medieval Tactica" rules.

They are fun, fast, simple and provide for a great game with a feel for the period.

Here is the freshest unit off my painting table! It's a 30 figure bill unit for my War of the Roses games. I use Medieval Tactica and it provides a fun and quick game with a great period feel.

So what's on the painting table now...I'm working on 10mm ACW for Fire and Fury!

The opening set-up! 

This Saturday morning, me and and My friend Titch, ran a 28mm Tactica Medieval game at Nashcon, in Franklin, TN. We were able to lay out the basic terrain the night before, so all we had to worry about in the morning was getting the troops on the table!


Tactica is my "go to" set of rules for my personal ancients and medieval gaming, but it also works great at conventions because of its simplicity and of course everyone loves to roll hand fulls of dice! We basically play the rules "as is", but we've made a few house rules to cover artillery, and made some of the movement / formation changes a little more flexible. A lot of people commented on the rules, and how they used to play and enjoy Tactica. One father walked by with his teenage son and said, "these rules are older than you"! A lot of people asked where they could buy a copy.

The Lancastrians are moving their troops!

We had a great time fighting out another battle between the Yorkists and Lancastrians. The Lancastrians pulled out a victory this year, but I'm certain the Yorkists will rally and raise another army for another battle next year! We run this game every year at Nashcon and have made it part of an ongoing campaign narrative.

War of the Roses Game at Nashcon 2013

My friend Titch and I ran a 28mm War of the Roses game this year at Nashcon. We used the same table as my ACW game, but switched things up enough to make the change from 19th Century Virginia to Medieval England. It was a big battle, with all of our figures on the table. We plan on running this battle every year at Nashcon and our plan is too keep adding figures and tables and growing this thing into a "mega-battle"!

We used Medieval Tactica rules and  fought a hypothetical scenario from the Tewkesbury campaign of 1471. The Yorkists, lead by Titch, defeated the Lancastrians with an all out assault on the center of their line. Here are some pictures of the battle:

28mm War of the Roses

This weekend was Nashcon 2012, and me and my good friend, Titch W., ran

a War of the Roses game. We ran a hypothetical scenario set during the Tewkesbury campaign of 1471. We used slightly modified "Medieval Tactica" rules. These rules are great for convention games because they are simple, bloody, and play to a conclusion quickly. The average unit size was 32 foot and 18 mounted figures per unit.  The figures are mostly 28mm Old Glory, Wargames Foundry, Front Rank and some Perry plastics. We actually had more figs than table and didn't use all of the figures we brought to the con. Next year we are planning on a table twice as big so we'll have room for Titch's castle, a river and 100% of our figures. We had four players and a great time! Here are some pictures from my iPhone:

Nascon 2012 - this year was very busy and I think there were  more gamers in attendance than
in the last 5+ years. It was good to see so many gamers out gaming and supporting the vendors!
