Crown of Rus-Ukraina

Can you draw crown Ukraine 1 as heraldic crowns of Ukraine? Let me know. Mitr4 (talk) 13:37, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Hawaiian Royal Monograms

[edit]

I don't know. Sorry. I didn't know such things actually existed for Hawaii?--KAVEBEAR (talk) 08:47, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

Hi, from now on, when you upload monograms, can you please give each one a source from where you got it? You can just put the URL of the site or photo it's on in the discription, and that should be good enough. I just have a person on wikipedia who keeps saying they're unsourced. Fry1989 (talk) 03:51, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Will do. Thanks.

I believe the lettering should be in gold on a field of red as shown at http://www.greekroyalfamily.gr/assets/ROYAL%20ORDERS%20(ENG).pdf. Please correct. DrKiernan (talk) 21:33, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

These monograms are intended to be representations of images from various sources such as letterhead (often in different colored inks from different sources,) medals, paintings, jewelry, dinnerware, cigarette cases, jewelry boxes, buttons, belt buckles, helmets, etc. I'm also finding that for the most part, "generic" crowns are used more so than any that are "official" crowns of a particular royal house. My primary focus is on the scripting itself, not the background. I notice on the Royal Order of George I which you reference, that the last medal appears to have the monogram in silver while the others are in gold. I would assume that his monogram, if used on an order whose colors were green and white, whould have been on a green background in that instance. I am using blue for the Greek royal family's images that I'm vectorizing because of the blue in the Greek flag and arms, but sometimes gold or other colors depending upon preference. The particular image I found for this monogram came from a medal that was brass on brass, so no background at all would have worked in this case. I am also finding that there are variations of cyphers for the same individuals, whether they're "official" or not, and I am vectorizing what I find to the best of my abilities, whether they appear absolutely correct or not.

You seem to have a rich source of images for royal cyphers and I'm very pleased to see that. I think it would great if you were to post some of those images to these sites yourself so that we can see different sources and renditions of the monograms. --Glasshouse 23:01, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Quick question

[edit]

Hi, I see you are rather talented with the monogram side of the Wikiworld =) I was wondering, do you make them yourself? LittleFrog (talk) 13:47, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Yes, all of the monograms are historic images actually used by the bearers. I create vector copies of them and post them online.--Glasshouse 00:40, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

You are most welcome, they are all very impressive. Another question .. do you do requests? =P LittleFrog (talk) 23:48, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not creative at all. None of the artwork is original to me. I just trace the images and convert them into an svg.--Glasshouse 01:26, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Oh I see. Would you be able to do the monogram of the Duchess of Savoy? Sorry to be a pain, I was just wondering =] LittleFrog (talk) 10:43, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I can do that.--Glasshouse 11:08, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Oh thank you! Just in case you need it, there is a better copy on this site Palazzo Madama, residence of the duchess in question LittleFrog (talk) 14:28, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Thanks for the tip.--Glasshouse 00:12, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Amazing! Thank you LittleFrog (talk) 19:03, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Hawaiian Crown(s)

[edit]

Aloha. There isn't any color picture of the crowns because they are copyrighted. This is the only color picture of the Crown of Hawaii (Kapiolani's, I presume from the from the white jews on the bottom rim and the wider size???) that I know of http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~royalty/pix/crown.jpg. Here is a painting of Kalakaua with his crown but you can barely see it. Here are some books that described the crown in detail Page 7 of Coronation of the king and queen of the Hawaiian Islands, at Honolulu, Monday, Feb 12th 1883, Page 238-239 of Under Hawaiian Skies by Albert Pierce Taylor, and Page 238-239 of The Arts of Kingship by Stacy L. Kamehiro. Plus there is probably more out there, and if you need more help you might try contacting the Bishop Museum or Iolani Palace for further information.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 04:43, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately File:Hawaii crown.jpg used in many of the royal monograms you created has been copied from vector-images.com and is being considered for deletion as a copyright violation. I recommend you create versions with alternate artwork, or perhaps without the crown. If you do that, only revisions with the offending artwork would have to be deleted.--Svgalbertian 03:50, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've created a new crown. Royal Crown of Hawaii--Glasshouse 02:49, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Awesome. Sorry for the inconvenience.--Svgalbertian (talk) 09:51, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you replace a lot of the crowns of Hawaii on the Royal monograms of Hawaii with the new crown. Most of them look really ackward and this crown can't be used for the Kamehamehas since it never existed during their lifetime while the imaginary one that the Kings of Hawaii never had which was on the coat of arms was in existent during their lifetimes. Can you use the crown in the old coat of arm instead of the new crown? There is a better sourced one on File:Coat of arms of the Kingdom of Hawaii.gif that looks like the original one. Also if you can, please improve the coat of arms too. Thanks a bunch!--KAVEBEAR (talk) 11:15, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at the comment before yours, you'll see that I was notified that I would have to cease using the crown you referred to which spurred me to creating the vector copy of the Hawaiian crown. That was my first try at vectorizing something that complex, since I've only been using Inkscape since January.--Glasshouse (talk) 11:43, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think you misunderstood. The problem was that the original image, that was source, was under copyright. Notice Commons:Deletion requests/File:Coat of arms of the Kingdom of Hawaii.svg. But the one I mentioned above isn't. See Commons:Deletion requests/File:Coat of arms of the Kingdom of Hawaii.gif. And they both look the same. :) --KAVEBEAR (talk) 18:37, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Royal Monogram of King Peter V of Portugal.svg

[edit]

I have answered you in Village pump. Another question regarding another image:

@ File:Royal Monogram of King Peter V of Portugal.svg: which images were your source images now? File names please - then I can correct your description page. It seems that you had only specified one image at derivative fx. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 03:19, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. My source for the Royal Monogram of King Peter V of Portugal is still File:Personal Standard Peter V of Portugal.png. I was just trying to upload the image again with the Crown of Portugal, but that wasn't working, either. What have I done wrong with this crown image?--Glasshouse 03:46, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Hallo Glasshouse, please also reply at Commons:Village_pump#File:Royal_Crown_of_Portugal.svg_isn.27t_showing_up.
Okay, so you made File:Royal Monogram of King Peter V of Portugal.svg only from File:Personal Standard Peter V of Portugal.png? Didn't you use File:Heraldic_Royal_Crown_of_Italy.svg? The file description page is totally confusing since there are mentioned two source images on top (onlye one shows up since you have misused the templates syntax) but only one on the bottom. :-) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 23:28, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Originally, I used the Royal Crown of Italy, and tried to reference both it and the source for the monogram itself, but now that I have the Crown of Portugal, I wanted to swap them out. I'm sorry for the confusion. I have more monograms for which I'll be wanting to swap the crowns, but I want to make sure I do things correctly. Please advise, and thanks for your help. --Glasshouse 01:58, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Hallo Glasshouse, please see Commons:Village_pump#File:Royal_Crown_of_Portugal.svg_isn.27t_showing_up. Viele Grüße --Saibo (Δ) 00:59, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File size

[edit]

I don't know the names of the menu in English, I use inkscape in Dutch. First I clean the definitions. (File->Clean definitions). Then I open the XMl screen (shift ctrl x) and I check all the files, and remove the ones that aren't used. I recommend to practice this first, because you could ruin your files. Then I clean the definitions again.

There aren't really size guidelines I think, but smaller sizes load quicker in in inkscape and in your browser. It's more efficient. Individual elements, except for some orders I guess, should probably be smaller than one megabyte. Adelbrecht (talk) 14:48, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The large file size is caused by an inefficient use of gradients. You should try to avoid tem in really small parts, and for parts that are similar you should use the same gradient definition. I could make it a lot smaller, but I would significantly alter the look of the look in that way. Even now the look has changed, as I just noticed.
I think that you can create the categories yourself. Just categorize the files with the category you want, as if it were an existing category. Then you can click on the red link of the category you want, and create the page for the category. Adelbrecht (talk) 14:19, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Orders of Hawaii

[edit]

Hello. Just wondering since you are so talented at making these kind of images. Can you make ones of the Royal Order of the Crown of Hawaii and the Royal Order of the Star of Oceania? There is some images here; I can't upload them because most are probably under copyright.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 05:59, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll give it a shot. Where are you uploading these? I'd like to see if there are others already and match the style as best I can.--Glasshouse 10:43, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Another question ;)

[edit]

Hey, me again .. could I be reaaaaaaally annoying and ask you to do a monogram for Marguerite of Lorraine, Duchess of Orléans? A monogram can be found on this image of the duchess. Do not feel obliged to do it, I would do it myself but do not know how =[ LittleFrog (talk) 17:16, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I appreciate the tip, and it's not a problem as long as I can easily do it!--Glasshouse 09:47, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Oh thank you! I feel so rude but I am going to be extra cheeky and ask you to do it again =P would you be able to do one for her Marguerites step-daughter La Grande Mademoiselle, a monogram is here thank you! I want to learn how to do this =[ LittleFrog (talk) 22:47, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I've only been using Inkscape for a couple of months myself and learned everything by Youtube videos and trial and error. By the way, Inkscape can be downloaded for free off of the internet.--Glasshouse 23:51, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately, when you removed the gradients, you also removed the supports connecting the circlet to the leaves(?) which hold the emeralds, so the top half of the crown was disconnected and hovering in space above the circlet. I saved half a megabyte over the last working version ("14:15, 7 May 2011") mainly by using a text filter to remove all id=" attributes on <path and <g elements, which is a simple but rather cosmetic and meaningless optimization. Don't know what would really compact the file, unless it's removing the twelve almost transparent gems between the arches (are they supposed to be there?). Portuguese monograms

Bulgarian crown

[edit]

You've doing great job with all these crowns, monograms, coat of arms etc! Would you have the time to create a better version of the Bulgarian royal coat of arms [3], since this one is quite bad, even if vector, and of the emblem of the Bulgarian armed forces [4]? That would be greatly appreciated! --Kreuzkümmel (talk) 14:30, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the complement, but that's way beyond my abilities.--Glasshouse 23:28, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Seal of Dallas Texas

[edit]

I noticed you were talking to Fry1989 about the Seal of Dallas, Texas. Is there something wrong with File:Seal of Dallas.svg? If so let me know. I created that file and can make improvements if warranted.--Svgalbertian (talk) 17:49, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, not at all. The version I found was a png. As a matter of fact, I didn't find the svg version until last night, and it looks fine.

Again, nice work with the Texas seals in general. Let me know if there's anything you're looking for that I might be able to help you locate.--Glasshouse 01:48, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Tahiti - Crest, Arms, and Crown

[edit]

If you could, can you created images for the Pomare Dynasty Coat of Arms and Crest? The images are from the Royal Tombs of the Pomare in Tahiti and the wiki is really in need of such an image. Please and thanks. Mahalo Nui!!!--KAVEBEAR (talk) 11:33, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also can you create a crown for Tahtit similar to the one on the Crown of Hawaii. See these three image of the crown La couronne du roi Pomare III and Objets de vie, vies d'objet and POMARE. It's all French so you'll have to use google translate.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 06:05, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Pomare_Arms.svg and http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Crown_of_Tahiti.svg --Glasshouse (talk) 22:28, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a bunch!--KAVEBEAR (talk) 07:42, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, removing the diamonds doesn't seem like a good idea, because they should be there, I guess. I've used a lot of cloning (because of this, the looks are a bit different), and I've managed to crunch it down to 1.56 MB. I could make it smaller, but it would take a lot of time and work. Wikimedia is kinda slow nowadays, so the old version will be still be shown for a couple of hours or days. Adelbrecht (talk) 09:51, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, you're using the wrong imperial crown for the Austrian emperors. You're using a present day Spanish version of the crown of the Holy Roman Empire. This should be the correct one. Adelbrecht (talk) 09:54, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Monograms

[edit]

I don't know if you are still interested, but I remember you asked me a while back about any other Hawaiian monograms...well weeks ago I stumble on this site which showed Kamehameha V's and Queen Emma's monograms. But the quality is extremely poor and small, so I don't think you'll garner any thing out of those.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 04:46, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much! I've contacted them to see if I can obtain better samples.--Glasshouse (talk) 00:10, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you're interested. Check this site out.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 05:39, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nice site, thanks. I recently completed a lot of historic flags of Texas.

Oh nice that good since the person I asked to make some flags for me says he isn't that good of a drawer.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 05:08, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I might create the one of Hawaii but I probably won't be able to find any information on Tahiti's or Tonga's.
BTW do you have time to makes some of the Hawaiian flags I showed you because it looks like Fred the Oyster bail out on me after the creating two flags back in August 1 since I badgered him too much on accuracy of the flags.
Also can you replace the royal crowns on the Hawaiian royal monograms with the heraldic crown, instead, here File:Crown of Hawaii.svg which looks like the one that was deleted.

Sorry, I'm still working on flags and insignia for the Texas Navy, and it's expanding!--Glasshouse (talk) 22:33, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh that's too bad. Well tell me whenever you have time again.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 01:47, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also all those whirly signatures you did for the Hawaiian royals, I found one for Bernice Pauauhi Bishop. If you make it you shouldn't add a crown on top since she wasn't actually royal in the legal sense more of noble or high chief, so she never used the crown.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 23:07, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Coronets in British royal monograms

[edit]

Hi Glasshouse. The Duke of Cambridge cypher you created caught my eye – it uses the "coronet of a grandchild of the sovereign", but William is a "child of the heir apparent". I then looked at several of the others, and many of those seem incorrect also:

Cypher Current coronet Correct coronet
Diana, Princess of Wales Child of Sovereign
Coronet (3 crosses, 2 fleurs)
Heir apparent
Single-arched crown (3 crosses, 2 fleurs)
Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh
Victoria, Princess Royal

or his own Sovereign (Saxon) coronet?
Duke & Duchess of Windsor
Duke & Duchess of York
Grandchild of Sovereign

Child of Sovereign
3 crosses, 2 fleurs
Duke of Cambridge
Duchess of Cambridge
Prince Harry

Do please chat me back at en.wikipedia. Cheers DBD 23:39, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but none of them use those crowns in their monograms. If you look at the originals, I used the same crowns that they do/did with these particular monograms.--Glasshouse (talk) 11:52, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Starting with William & Kate: source. The 1917 coronet warrant is here. I'll get back to you on the rest DBD 15:02, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Harry source; Alfred Edinburgh (British coronet) source shows no arches at least DBD 16:32, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find your source on that site for Vicky (Kaiserin Friedrich); Your source for Louise clearly mentions her coronet (not her crown); where are your sources for the Windsors and Yorks?; where precisely on the royalforums are your sources for the Kents? even better where did they come from before the forum? Louis de Aury Flag

[edit]

I'll like to make note of some issues with this version, firstly, the sword's styling doesn't match the styling of the other elements, secondly, the the wreath above the rest of the elements don't match the dispiction of the flag the Texas A&M's page regarding the flag has it depicted as similar to the wreath as found on the coat of arms of Peru or Grand Columbia --Thegunkid (talk) 17:27, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I know. I already have that on my re-do list. Maybe this week I can get to it.--Glasshouse (talk) 21:33, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

monogram

[edit]

Hey there, saw you did monograms and I thought I'd ask if you could do one for Marie Thérèse who is one of the few queens of france who doesnt have a monogram. I cant/dont know how to do them myself and would appreciate it alot if you would do one?! Songsblame (talk) 20:21, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tip. I'll try to get to it soon.--Glasshouse (talk) 12:09, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! Once again, me again. Just thought I'd say you've outdone yourself again with the monogram of Queen Marie Thérèse! :) Also, do you know any users (or yourself even?) who are able to make coats of arms? Songsblame (talk) 11:57, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There are several heraldic artist, but they usually specialize in certain eras/countries/families, etc. What did you have in mind?--Glasshouse (talk) 13:05, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I seeeeeeeee. Well I was thinking for dauphines of France. I did one earlier here but it looks awful and females usually have oval arms? I think the one I did was awful. And they should really include the coronet like here and here. So I'm stuck :( Songsblame (talk) 23:07, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Queen Emma of Hawaii

[edit]

Scroll down to page xxv of this book. Can you create that royal monogram of Queen Emma of Hawaii? It is the same one from this site.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 22:12, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually it is also on the title page.

Yep. Be happy to. Done--Glasshouse (talk) 23:22, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I like your crown and all, but could you make the crown from what is on the monogram? Sticking Kalakaua's crown on his rival Queen Emma's monogram would be really weird.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 10:10, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The one on the monogram is a generic crown and I'm not going spend many hours of my life to create something new just for this one monogram. What I think I'll do is use the new crown that Sodacan made for the Royal Hawaiian Coat of Arms. I'll change the other, pre-Kalakaua monograms to that crown as well.--Glasshouse (talk) 12:21, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All of it are very beautiful. But all of Russian Tsars, beginning from Peter I "The Great" has title Emperor, didn't use in their monograms the Monomach's hat. Better, use File:Crown emp7.gif instead of it. And, would You make Peter II monogram (like http://coinrus.ru/product_info.php?products_id=3783&language=en)? --Arachn0 (talk) 14:01, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I appreciate the resources and will welcome any other monograms. Also, can you tell me something about the monograms on the coins below those of Peter II on the link you gave me?--Glasshouse (talk) 22:43, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For me, it's trivial: double latin P (from "Peter"), his number II, Imperial crown (looks like that I recommended, isn't it?) --Arachn0 (talk) 06:56, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, I mean the other two coins with monograms that appear below that one of Peter II on the link above. Their pages are here and here. One looks to be Catherine II, but with another letter as well, kind of like a Latin "T" or "I."

1757 - it's Elizabeth of Russia - You did it File:Imperial Monogram of Empress Elizabeth I of Russia.svg - attaention to the crown! 1787 - Catherine II, yes. I think, it's big old-russian "i", from "Imperatrix" in italic, it may be not equal to Latin --Arachn0 (talk) 14:22, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Me again ... :)

[edit]

Hii, same old lol. Would you amaze me once more by doing a monogram for Maria Teresa Rafaela of Spain? A copy of it is on this drawing but it is faint so if it is not possible don't worry. Thanks anyway :) Songsblame (talk) 22:09, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid it's not clear enough for me to accurately render.--Glasshouse (talk) 23:08, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Monogram of Prince William, Prince Harry and Catherine

[edit]

Hello Glasshouse! I'm here to tell to you that, when I saw the official website of The Prince of Wales, I understood that the coronet of royal monogram of Prince William, Prince Harry and Catherine should be coronet of a child of the heir apparent. Can you remake their royal monogram? Keivan.fTalk 12:55, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My sources are [Diana's stationery,] and the monograms of [William and Harry]. What images are you finding that are contradictory? I am in the process of updating these monograms and will have them completed by the end of the weekend; however, none of the contemporary British royal princes and princesses seem to use anything but a coronet without a cap or arches, and the appropriate coronets will be changed where appropriate. I'd like to see what images you're using as a reference, though.--Glasshouse (talk) 03:00, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

About Diana's monogram you were right. But about the monograms of William, Catherine and Harry. Can you look at the shape of the coronet of their monograms? If you see carefully you'll understand that the correct coronet for their monograms IS the coronet of a child of the heir apparent. So, please look at carefully this time and then correct their monograms please. Thank You. Keivan.fTalk 18:18, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Keivan is right, Glass – if you look carefully, those are very definitely strawberry leaves and not crosses patte on the outsides! DBD 22:35, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Monogram of Prince William, Prince Harry and Catherine

[edit]

Hello Glasshouse! Seal of Texas (reverse)

[edit]

Why exactly is the shade of blue on it lighter than the actual US and Texan flags? --Thegunkid (talk) 17:36, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I took the colors directly from the image of the reverse of the state seal that I was recreating. However, upon closer examination of the picture on the Secretary of State's website, (which does not allow me to copy that image!) I see that the colors are darker. I'll make the changes and verify the red as well.

I noticed your postings earlier today of the Texas Coasting Trade Flag, the Republic of Texas Pilot Flag, and the Flag of the Republic of Texas Revenue Service. As you're probably aware, I've posted quite a few Texas flags, and other symbols relevant to Texas, and I’m glad to see your contributions as well. Do you plan to create svg renderings of these? I’m also curious as to what other items you plan on posting.--Glasshouse (talk) 23:55, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No sir, I do not, I don't know how to work Inkscape for the life of me, I only made and added those flags due to the fact I couldn't find the pilot flag on the commons so I just decided to make all 3 of the flags.

Also I have no other items I plan to post since I only post stuff as I come across it, and right now I'm too busy trying to figure out why exactly the Burnet flag is a different shade of blue then the rest of the flags in the article, and why exactly a vertical Texan flag with a upright star is apparently incompletely impermissible for the Flag of Texas Article. --Thegunkid (talk) 00:17, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you have no objections, then, I think I'll render these flags in svg format. I assume your source is here http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/msf01 and in the online articles referencing the governor's flag legislation?

As for the Burnet flag, that has bugged me for quite a while as well. I'm not one to go in and alter anyone else's Wiki contributions, but I think I'll make an exception here. The thing that has bothered me the most, though, is that the flag being used to represent the Texas Navy on the pages for each ship of the navy, for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texan_sloop-of-war_Austin, is incorrect. Image Texas 2nd Naval Ensign.svg is tagged as the second naval ensign of the Republic of Texas used from 1838 to 1846. However, the last two sentences of this article from the official website of the Texas Navy Association http://www.texasnavy.com/EducationalResources/A_History_of_the_Texas_Navy_Flag.pdf states that that version was only created in the past several years and ONLY for ceremonial purposes. I think a re-naming of that image is necessary. The Wikipedia website http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Navy correctly identifies the two flags used during the tenure of the Texas Navy, so there are lots of corrections that need to be done.--Glasshouse (talk) 12:47, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The source for those flags is this, which intern uses a scan of a document in the state archives. http://www.flagguys.com/pdf/txspain1.pdf --Thegunkid (talk) 22:07, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And to add, I don't see how I have any place to object to the vectorization of any of the 20 flags I have added to the article to begin, considering they are all public domain anyway. --Thegunkid (talk) 02:17, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, your request wasn't correctly formatted, and the reason given wasn't really sufficient. There are probably one or two templates on en.wikipedia which are responsible for the vast majority of displays of "File:Flag-map of Texas.svg" on Wikipedia article talk pages, and it would probably be better for you to just edit those templates to use the preferred image... AnonMoos (talk) 03:05, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't overwrite a valid image with a completely different image. As for templates, just go to one of the pages where the page is listed as being in use (the first happens to be en:Talk:Barbara_Olson, edit the page, and you'll probably find Name of some template code in the page source which is causing the image to be invoked. So then go to page "Template:Name of some template" and edit it to make the template refer to your preferred image. It's really up to you to do the work (without the undesirable shortcuts which you've previously proposed)... AnonMoos (talk) 14:24, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, that helps a lot. However, when I go to this site, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Texas, I see the old flag map on the left side above "WikiProject Texas To-do:" and on the right side, the new image with the Texas Portal banner. How do I find the source using the old banner with the "WikiProject Texas To-do:" image?--Glasshouse (talk) 01:10, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You can ask on en:Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical) or similar forums as to how to trace through the page transclusion relationships (always assuming that the portal people are fine with switching images)... AnonMoos (talk) 13:35, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Source's problem

[edit]

Hello, first I find your work on Monogram remarkable, but I noticed that links to your sources were red. I have the solution for you : first started with only one type of "[", second started don't forget to put "http://" before the website adress, after you can put a space and the name of website, and to finish put a last "]". If you don't understand my bad explaination you can see the result on this page. Cordially Mathieu C. (talk) 13:13, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'm trying to do a lot of clean up with these. Sometimes, though, the source isn't a website, but just text, such as here. What's the proper formatting for that?--Glasshouse (talk) 10:52, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If your source isn't a web site, just put it without "[" "]" but the more completly ha been possible. Good luck to do change on your numerous files. Mathieu C. (talk) 14:59, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Greek monograms

[edit]

Hello Glasshouse. In order for your Greek monograms to be used on English Wikipedia, someone would like the crowns to be blue. Is it alright if I change the crowns back to blue while keeping your recent changes to the monograms themselves so we can use them on English Wikipedia? Fry1989 eh? 23:28, 8 July 2012 (UTC) Someone? Someone as in someone who has some sort of editorial rights in Wikicommons, or someone who just won't be able to sleep unless the crowns on the Greek monograms are blue? I guess there's no room for artistic license. Will this be only for the Greek monograms, or can I expect it to spill over into others as well?[reply]

I'll re-post one with a blue crown, then you can use the same one for any of the other Greek monograms that have to be changed in order for the sun to come up tomorrow.--Glasshouse (talk) 01:26, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Someone with a control problem, I think you know who. Hopefully this will just be the Greek ones, I really don't like it, but I'd rather they be used on the articles if possible. But I didn't wanna do it without asking you first cause I respect you for your work. Fry1989 eh? 01:30, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How about using the crown that's on the Dual Cypher of Pavlos and Marie-Chantal of Greece? --Glasshouse (talk) 01:34, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, maybe if I just keep my mouth shut and lay low, no other changes will be "required."--Glasshouse (talk) 01:38, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That looks fine to me, though honestly I find this entire mess a bunch of bs. The extremist literal interpretation he insists on is insane, like that time he insisted our digital recreation of Mary Queen of Scots' monogram has to be coloured gold just because of the gold coin it was minted on *rolls eyes*. I've lost my patience, but I'm willing to compromise with him one last time. If he tries to bully us around with other ones though like Romania or the UK or Russia, I wont take it any more, and I'll start a report on him on English Wikipedia. You'll be invited, if it comes to that. Fry1989 eh? 03:00, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I never said Mary Queen of Scots' monogram has to be coloured gold. Stop lying about me. Stop attacking me. DrKiernan (talk) 07:15, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Monogram of Princess Anne

[edit]

Hi dear Glasshouse! Is that the monogram of Anne, Princess Royal? I added that monogram to her article in Wikipedia but one of the users removed it because the shape of the monogram is unsourced. So, can you add a better source for that file to its information, please? Then we can use it on that article. Thanks. Keivan.fTalk 07:04, 31 December 2012

Here's a link to a photo of the banner and the Wiki article it goes with is here.--Glasshouse (talk) 01:49, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How can this be an unidentified WWI or WWII ribbon? As the uploader and creator of the file, certainly you must know. If not, how ever to did you come up with this design? If you provide the source you used to create the SVG, I will update the description and rename. Thank you, Senator2029 01:34, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am hoping that it can be identified. Please refer to this talk page. And if it can be identified, I'll have it renamed accordingly. --Glasshouse (talk) 01:53, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You might try contacting the Sons of the American Revolution. I was awarded a medal with a very similar design last year. It could be something of theirs. --Herr Rockefeller (talk) 02:51, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I will contact them.--Glasshouse (talk) 10:03, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Texas flag image

[edit]

Hello, I've noticed before that you've done some work on Texas flags and I'd like to request one (or two) from you. It is a standard Flag of Texas with fifteen stars in the blue to represent the fifteen slave states in 1861. One star, representing Texas, is larger. There are two possible reconstructions of it depicted here: http://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth101220/m1/402/. (The caption gets it wrong, the top flag is based on the second national flag of the Republic of Texas.) The article describing the history of the flag beginning here: "A Fifteen-Star Texas Flag: A Banner Used at the Time of Secession—February 1861 and March 1861".

I thank you in advance if you can whip it up for me! Tuckerresearch (talk) 04:38, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Done and done. --Glasshouse (talk) 13:04, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is it necessary to copy the irregular star placement? Since the only evidence available is textual (newspaper reports and such), presumably a symmetrical arrangement would be less distracting, and no less faithful to the historical sources... AnonMoos (talk) 14:23, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

When I step back a little, I can see what you mean. I'll fix them tonight.--Glasshouse (talk) 17:34, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your Inkscape SVGs

[edit]

Hi Glasshouse, you are producing a lot of fine graphics for wikimedia; thank you. Would you mind to look sometimes with the validator that you upload rather syntactically valid files? Your last monogram Sophie is nice, but it contains a lot of garbage, as RDF data and more, which is easily removable by tools.

I also see that you create even graphics of the simplest structures with Inkscape instead of editing them by hand. Inkscape produces a lot of garbage, and without final cleaning also often many invalid constructs. May be you like to use this editor; but when you just change some colors as in TxHDM.svg please do this not with Inkscape, increasing there the file size more than 250 times (in this case, from 358 bytes to 89963 bytes; and with 11 errors). The color change will be done much faster manually. sarang사랑 03:54, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Besides vacuuming def's before saving the document, what are you suggesting I do?--Glasshouse (talk) 13:09, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mysterious black rectangles are almost always due to Inkscape "flowtext" nonsense, which can be diagnosed at Commons:SVG Check. There was also an embedded PNG... AnonMoos (talk) 13:04, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks!--Glasshouse (talk) 23:20, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm certain you're aware that there are many people on Wikimedia whose abilities are much better than mine. I won't even venture to refer to myself as an "artist." I have been considering your request, though, and I will offer to help you out, with the understanding that I don't expect to be able to produce anything on par with others who could do a much better job. It's one thing to create something on my own for my own purposes, but quite another to create something to meet the expectations of someone else. Perhaps whatever it is that I can produce for you, could be cleaned up and improved upon by one of the Wiki artists. As for the timeframe, this is not really a good time for me, but I will attempt to work on things as I can. In the mean time, if you're able to get someone else to do it more quickly, and most assuredly, much better, then please feel free to engage them, and let me know if that's the case. I'll sit down and attempt to start on it this week and see how things go.--Glasshouse (talk) 15:20, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have a question about your claim to be copyright holder in this image, is it not a copy of the official logo taken from http://www.dukeandduchessofcambridge.org/ and therefore is in fact at best a derivative work or at worst a out and out copy of the original owned by the Duke/Clarence House (per the copyright claim on the website) ? LGA talkedits 10:33, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

bump. LGA talkedits 01:16, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Since you seem to be ignoring the question I will nominate for Deletion. LGA talkedits 02:00, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose it could be viewed as a derivative, I'm not sure. I have used the same or similar copyright information as other images containing monograms, such as Royal Cypher of Queen Elizabeth II, Personal Flag of the Duke of Cambridge for use in Canada, EVIIIR and Royal Monogram of Prince Albert II of Monaco and I use crowns separate from any that were part of the original image.--Glasshouse (talk) 02:09, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Royal Cypher of Queen Elizabeth II and EVIIIR are copyright expired, the other two are not from the UK and the Prince's logo would not be copyright in Canada due to TOO issues. I am still seeing this as a copyvio in the UK and as such needs to be hosted on a project that allows for fair use or on enwp as UK. LGA talkedits 02:19, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you're suggesting by having something "hosted on a project that allows for fair use or on enwp."--Glasshouse (talk) 02:29, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A claim of Fair use can be made for this logo on pages about the prince and some wiki projects allow for that (commons does not) and as the image would probably not be covered by copyright in the US it could be uploaded to the english WP as UK. LGA talkedits 02:48, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OK, what modifications do I need to make?--Glasshouse (talk) 02:51, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

None, uploaded it to enwp and use the licence UK and then request it be deleted from here, you might also consider doing others for UK royals that are not that old, such as Anne. LGA talkedits 03:33, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I set up an account on Wikipedia, but it's still not allowing me to upload any files. It says I have to make 10 edits and wait four days in order to have it confirmed, or have an administrator confirm it. Is that something you can do? And once I'm confirmed, will there be categories in which to save the image when it's uploaded, as there are in Commons? By the way, I had to use GlasshouseWP as the user name.--Glasshouse (talk) 06:54, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I just stumbled across your work and I am very impressed! If I provided you the source material, would you have the time to generate SVGs of the DUIs of the Texas Defense Guard and the Texas State Guard?

Regards,

CW4 Thomas W. Dodd

I'm not sure what you're referring to as DUI's, but if you can provide me source materials, I'll see what I can do.--Glasshouse (talk) 01:56, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the images for the current Texas State Guard distinctive unit insignias (DUIs) to the Wikicommons area, under the username of ssgdodd01. Let me know if you have any questions.--Ssgdodd01 (talk) 10:56, 01 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have actually wanted to do these; however, I've not been able to locate a blazon, or written description as to what the components are supposed to be, how they are colored and placed, etc. I especially question the crests--the star and leaves at the top of each coat of arms. Why are they depicted as small as they are, which really has no precedence in heraldry? And do these crests rest within a background of some sort? I would say that 99.9% of all crests I've ever seen do not have a background of any kind, but it looks as if the space between the leaves and stars is also colored, rather than the traditional depiction of the elements being there with no color or other elements behind them at all. Is there any way you could point me to a source record for these arms?--Glasshouse (talk) 01:37, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Monogram of Philip VI of Spain

[edit]

Please dear Glasshouse, to draw the personal monogram of Philip VI of Spain.--80.116.62.174 10:48, 21 June 2014 (UTC) I'd be glad to. Do you know where I can find images of the new king and queen's monograms?--Glasshouse (talk) 13:13, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Yugoslavian Monograms

[edit]

Thanks for quick answer i wasn't see it and now i send you few royal monograms you could make.

Kobra011 (talk) 21:13, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is great information, thank you very much. I have questions for you:

 • 1. Can you provide me with the source details for this? I'd like to properly reference it for anything I upload from it.
 • 2. On page 5, are numbers 18 and 20 both Queen Maria of Yugoslavia?
 • 3. Also on page 5, whose monogram is number 19?
 • 4. On page 4, can you identify the monogram of number 15?
 • 5. I believe number 16 on page 4 is King Carol II of Romania, correct? --Glasshouse (talk) 00:54, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Answers:

7. Crowns for Obrenović dynasty are form old coat of arms of Serbia.

And i have one question i could you please make military ranks of Kingdom of Yugoslavia i would be most grateful and you could contact me any time for anything. Kobra011 (talk) 10:16, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nice job but you add crown form today's coat of arms and that's not good, crown for Serbian monarchs are from this coat of arms. Fix it. Kobra011 (talk) 20:10, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You are the best, and here is one more monogram of Queen Alexandra of Yugoslavia. Kobra011 (talk) 15:26, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Could you make me something i would send you one coat of arms please. Kobra011 (talk) 15:30, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've done the monogram of Queen Alexandra, and thanks for that source. As for the coat of arms request, I'm really not the best source for creating coats of arms--there are many more Wiki artists whose talents in that area are much better than mine. Also, I don't think I'll have much time to devote to a large project for the foreseeable future. Monograms are much easier. Do you know if there are any monograms for Crown Prince Alexander's sons?--Glasshouse (talk) 04:09, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent, sons don't have monograms yet, if they make them i will send you since i am member of there Royal Association. You need to make few corrections. Site i link you monogram are copyright so you change these monograms:

Colorize them like this monogram so that aren't like on that site. Outside edge are dark blue and inside are light. Good job keep with good work. Kobra011 (talk) 21:31, 25 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but we should be OK. The monograms I've uploaded are not cut and pasted copies from the source's website. They are versions I drew using my own crown and citing the original source. Thanks again for your assistance, and keep me updated if you find some more.--Glasshouse (talk) 12:31, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Philip VI's Monogram

[edit]

Dear Glasshouse, Take the image of the monogram from the Dual Cypher of Felipe and Letizia of Spain and then realize that royal monogram, as did with Juan Carlos I. --79.17.164.248 09:12, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, do you have a source for this? I need to make sure that I cite sources for each monogram. Also, are you saying it's just the "F" with no VI Roman numeral? That would be very unusual for a reigning monarch. This is another reason for having a source.

Also, I'm sure other members of the royal family have their own official or personal monograms but I've never been able to find sources for them. Can you help me to locate monograms of: Queen Letizia, Infanta Elena, Infanta Cristina, Infanta Pilar, Princess Leonor, Infanta Sofia, or any other family members you might know of?--Glasshouse (talk) 12:22, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Diana vs. Camilla

[edit]

Hi. Actually I had a question about royal monograms of Diana and Camilla. Why the coronet of Diana's monogram is the coronet of a child of a sovereign while for Camilla it's the coronet of the Prince of Wales? Can you provide sources for these two monograms, please? Keivan.fTalk 20:14, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Clarence House or Buckingham Palace would be the ultimate source for the explanation. My guess is that it is a further opportunity to separate Camilla from Diana. Rather than hold the same title as Diana, Camilla is styled as Duchess of Cornwall instead of Princess of Wales. Since Diana's monogram used the coronet of a child of a sovereign, Camilla uses a different crown which also represents her husband's rank.--Glasshouse (talk) 01:46, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

But being styled as Duchess of Cornwall doesn't mean that her position is lower than Diana. But using coronet of a child of the sovereign for Diana's monogram is wrong. Both of them have been wives of the heir to the throne. Can you please show me your sources? Also I think Diana used this version of monogram after her divorce as she changed the coronet of her coat of arms from the Prince of Wales' coronet to a child of the sovereign's coronet. As with her coat of arms, I think we should have two monograms for her. One she used as HRH The Princess of Wales and another one she used as Diana, Princess of Wales. Keivan.fTalk 11:29, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just Google "Duchess of Cornwall letter" and "Princess Diana letter" and you'll find images of the monograms used by both of them. I'm not going to speculate beyond anything I see as actually being used by either of them.--Glasshouse (talk) 18:14, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, when I searched in internet I just saw that only in the letters that were written after Diana's divorce this version of the monogram that we have was used. If you search yourself, I think you'll understand that in her previous letters the version that I mentioned above was used. Please try a Google search and then again tell me your decision. Edinburgh

[edit]

Hi. Unfortunately there's currently no representation on Wikimedia of the arms of Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh. Would you possibly be able to create one if you have the time? I did originally ask user:sodacan but as he's not deigned to respond I hoped some other competent artist might be more helpful. The blazon, as recorded in the Lyon's Register in 1732, is: Argent a castle triple-towered and embattled sable masoned of the first and topped with three fans gules, windows and portcullis shut of the last, situate on a rock proper. And on a wreath of the colours is set for Crest, An anchor wreathed about with a cable all proper. Motto, in an escrol above. Nisi Dominus Frustra. Supported on the dexter by a maid richly attir'd with her hair hanging down over her shoulders, and on the sinister by a doe proper.

Although the official blazon mentions neither, it's usual to include a mural crown and helm in the arms. It's up to you whether you decide to include them or not. The best illustration I've found so far is this from the fifth plate of Fox-Davies' Complete Guide to Heraldry.

Thanks. Zacwill16 (talk) 21:33, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm aware of the fact that you have asked Sodacan to do this and that he has not yet responded. British heraldry is his focus and his artistry is truly unmatched. My focus is on American, and more specifically Texas projects and much of my work draws from his. He has already produced the Edinburgh shield in the arms of the Duke of Edinburgh and I have no doubt that he will honor your request when he gets time. My advice is to just be patient. And trust me, you would much better prefer his rendition to anything I, or anyone else would produce.--Glasshouse (talk) 12:34, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

How patient? I posted the request in November and as yet have had no confirmation that he's even seen it. Even just an "I'll get back to you when I have the time" would be nice. And personally I think you're overrating Sodacan's artistic skills and style. The work of artists like user:madboy74 is far superior in my opinion, if not so ubiquitous. And he actually bothers to respond when people talk to him. Sodacan's page is littered with perfectly reasonable requests which have been completely ignored. Zacwill16 (talk) 19:40, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Keep in mind that none of us are paid for any of the work we contribute to Wikicommons. Some of us are full time students, some of us have family and careers that require our full attention for extended periods, and our contributions, which can take multiple hours to complete, can only be done on our "free" time. Of course, I can't speak personally for anyone else, but there are times when we just need a break from all of the graphics work. I'm sorry for your frustration.--Glasshouse (talk) 01:59, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The shield appears to be identical with that of the traditional coat of arms of the duchy of Normandy. The English heraldic authorities would not normally grant or recognize such arms without a close connection to the royal family... AnonMoos (talk) 14:58, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I hadn't noticed that myself. However, the blazon came directly from Crozier's, which I cited in the description. Let me know if I read it incorrectly. I had looked into the family's genealogy, though, and found that they have origins in Normandy, but I don't know the circumstances behind the grant itself.--Glasshouse (talk) 15:46, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If the image is accurate to the historical description, then there's nothing to be done, but it would be considered pretentiously ignorant (staking a claim to be duke of Normandy) by informed people and heraldic authorities in England: "A lion passant guardant or is now never granted to any applicant except under a specific Royal Warrant to that effect." etc. etc. AnonMoos (talk) 13:23, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie

[edit]

Hi. I found royal monograms of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie on the official website of the Duke of York. It shows their monograms on the top of their pages. Princess Beatrice & Princess Eugenie. Well, their coronet is the coronet of a grandchild of a sovereign and I think their shape is clear enough. Can you create them for using in their articles in Wikipedia? Please do it every time you can. Thanks a lot. Keivan.fTalk 06:15, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also the shape of Prince Andrew and Prince Edward's monogram's can be seen in their flags for Canada. I don't know that you have made their monograms before or not, but if you have created them before please inform me. Here's Prince Andrew's flag and Prince Edward's flag. Coat of Arms James Madison

[edit]

I found a source for the CoA of James Madison: in this page of the James Madison University, the JMU explains the origin of their seal, claiming the use of "the original coat of arms of President James Madison’s family". In other not academic sources I found a possible coulor scheme: quarterly 1st and 4th Argent, three axes sable, 2nd and 3rd Argent, Argent, a chevron sable, three stars or. --Lupusinfabula (talk) 14:42, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm aware of the attributed arms for James Madison; however, there are no sources documenting these arms in any historical publications I have ever seen, especially historically accepted ones such as "Bolton's American Armory", the NEHS "Roll of Arms", Matthew's "American Armoury" and Vermont's "America Heraldica".--Glasshouse (talk) 02:37, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you in advance for your help and sorry for not having had the monogram and arms simultaneously.

I will leave the arms to User:F5JMH to create and add along with the others that he's done for the Swedish royal family.--Glasshouse (talk) 10:53, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Chief Herald of Ireland did not use elements by Sodacan & Heralder, so your edits to that image's description were rather strange. In general, if you add something to the source field which implies that your image is derivative of a modern artistic rendering by somebody else (rather than mainly the textual blazon, or an artistic rendering whose copyright is now expired), then you're calling into question the copyright status of your own image. AnonMoos (talk) 13:51, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I know, I made those modifications last night and realized I had done things incorrectly but I was so tired I decided to wait and fix things tonight.--Glasshouse (talk) 23:31, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I hope you don't mind that I've edited the summary to match present heraldry information usage. I wonder why you missed to draw the motto. -- MaxxL - talk 16:40, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again - you have deleted the names of the original artists The Chief Herald of Ireland Brendan O Donoghue and the illustrator Joseph McMillan which I've added yesterday. Doing that I followed the description of the template parameters which says: Name of the artist who drew the graphics, with a link if possible. Use Example or John Doe if applicable, and may also provide the name of the original designer of the coat of arms if this information is available. and If the work is derived from or depicts works by someone other than the author, the author of the original work should also be mentioned. For example, for a photograph of a sculpture, make a mention of both the sculptor and the photographer. This field should not be used to specify the scanner, finder or uploader of the image; they are not the author. Please let me know the reason for your deletion. -- MaxxL - talk 06:47, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I deleted references to the two other artists for a couple of reasons. In his capacity as Chief Herald of Ireland, Brendan O Donoghue may have authorized the creation of the coat of arms, but I'm sure a staff artist at the herald office actually drew the rendition of the arms that appeared on the letters patent that were issued when the arms were officially delivered to Bill Clinton. Joseph McMillian was the artist who created a version of this same coat of arms for the article on Bill Clinton's arms in his American Heraldry Society website, following the specification of the blazon. As for these arms that I uploaded to Wikicommons, I created them myself, also based upon the specifications of the blazon. Therefore, in this case, I am the artist for this image, Joseph McMillian is the artist for the image he created for his website and someone on the Chief Herald of Ireland's staff was the artist who created the version on the letters patent. I have looked at other arms by Sodacan, Heralder and Adelbrecht and others which they created and uploaded to Wikicommons, but I didn't find any that any of them attributed anyone but themselves as the artist for any images that they themselves created and uploaded. Therefore, as for the "artist" of THIS image, I would say that it should remain as me with my attributions to Sodacan and Heralder. As for the "source" perhaps it should acknowledge the Chief Herald of Ireland's office (the grant occurred on June 15, 1995) and as for the "blazon", it can remain with the American Heraldry Society website.--Glasshouse (talk) 11:08, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You use a lot of crowns made by other users, including me, in your monograms, yet in most cases you do not attribute these. Could you amend this? Preferably using Template:AttribSVG to link to the files. Tom-L (talk) 08:41, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you're absolutely right, and that's something that I have, at times, tried to go back and do as time permits. It has bothered me knowing that I should prioritize getting that done and I do apologize for being lax in that regard.

On a separate, personal note, I know how necessary it is to have the time, and to be in the mood to address Wiki projects, but I think your crowns and arms of the German Empire are exceptional and I have wished you would continue with those. Are there arms of alliance for Hermine Reuss of Greiz, Wilhelm II's second wife? There is quite a bit lacking on the German states all together, notably Bavaria, which I think you would be able to do an excellent job creating.--Glasshouse (talk) 10:21, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your first is the historically true monogram of Henry II, combining the letters "HD" as a symbol of his love for Diane de Poitiers, and he used it throughout his reign.

The current updated monogram is Catherine de' Medicis's defacement out of jealousy and thwarted love; sometimes Henry II sometimes used "HC" in consideration for his wife, but those were rare; this monogram became more prevalent once Henry II died and (having Diane de Poitiers banished from court) Catherine became regent for her sons' rule for almost 20 years. Heran et Sang'gres (talk) 08:18, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the clarification. I have uploaded an additional version of the original with reference to Diane de Poitiers.--Glasshouse (talk) 23:23, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Romanian Government used your crown on their official rendering of the Romanian Coat of Arms without crediting you.

[edit]

Hello. Just letting you know the romanian governement used your crown on their official rendering of the Romanian Coat of Arms without crediting you and released it in the public domain. Files in question: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Coat_of_arms_of_Romania.svg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Steel_Crown_of_Romania.svg You should take legal actions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GabrielGGD (talk • contribs) 17:04, 06 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The rendition you are referencing was created by another Wikicommons artist to reflect the recent, official modifications by the Romanian government--not by the Romanian government itself. Regardless, I released the image of the Romanian crown to the public domain when I uploaded it to Wikicommons so that it could be used for just these purposes if needed, so no laws have been broken.--Glasshouse (talk) 18:08, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Glasshouse: Actually, no. This is the official rendering, not an artist's one (source: http://www.cdep.ro/comisii/juridica/pdf/2016/rp030;1.pdf) Also, you said you released this file in the public domain, which is not what the license of the file says. And even if you wanted to release this file into the public domain, you cannot, only because you used other elements from other crowns that are in a CC3.0 license. On so. --GabrielGGD (talk) 19:35, 6 September 2016 (UTC)--GabrielGGD (talk) 19:35, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Coat of Arms

[edit]

Hey Glasshouse, is there any way you could create a coat of arms based on a blazon of arms or a picture of said coat of arms? You do amazing work and your heraldic art is beautiful. The coat of arms is for the last name 'Hatter' of England. Blazon - Paly of six or and gules on a chief of the second a griffin passant argent. Crest - A griffin as in the arms. I will attach the coat of arms to this post as a reference. Thanks for your consideration.

 • The file's information summary indicates where the image came from, though I was not able to find a visual representation of it on Google Books. Of similar concern, however, is the information given in the "Author" and "Date" fields— the author is the person who originally created the image, not the person who uploaded it or converted it into an SVG file (whoever the author is, he is probably long dead); the date is the date the image was first published by that author (not the date that it was converted into an SVG file and uploaded to Commons). All of that would mean that the image is de facto in the public domain at this point. KDS4444 (talk) 10:49, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not use the file State Achievement of Bulgaria 1908-1946.svg instead of Coat of arms of Bulgaria (1927-1946).svg. You can see some historical images of the coat of arms from the period 1927-1946: http://heraldika-bg.org/vladetelski_gerb.htm The file State Achievement has very little resemblance to the actual coat of arms. Glasshouse you contributions to the digital presence of heraldry have been truly outstanding. The German states in particularl are wporks of art!

Have you ever considered doing the arms of the post 1830 Kingdom of Hanover? They are a great British/Brunswick mix, and the collars of the Hanoverian Orders of St George and the Royal Guelphic Order would be great additions to the art also! == Arms and Orders of the Kingdom of Hanover --DarthZealous (talk) 15:25, 16 March 2018 (AEST)

Princess Michael of Kent

[edit]

Hi. I just wanted to say that I think you made a mistake when creating the royal monogram of Princess Michael of Kent. Based on what can be seen on their official websites, Prince Michael's monogram is the letter "M" crowned by a coronet while his wife's monogram is an "M" with a "C" beneath it, and that perfectly makes sense because her actual name is in fact Marie-Christine. I'll be glad if you fix it. Thanks. Keivan.fTalk 00:47, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also, can you please make a Dual Cypher for Prince Harry and Meghan (now HRH The Duke and Duchess of Sussex) that can be posted alongside the posting of their Conjugal Coat of Arms.

Years ago, I created the original file using a lion supporter that another user had created. Shortly after I uploaded the file, it was determined that the lion was not eligible for use on Wiki Commons and all files using that lion had to be changed. A moderator replaced the lion on this file and uploaded the changed image that we see now, deleting the original upload file.--Glasshouse (talk) 20:34, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. I noticed that you created a coat of arms for George Ross Signer of the Declaration. I was wondering if you might be interested in creating a few more for that family for my Ross Surname wiki? Or if you could just give me a hint on how to do it myself.

First, I'm curious about the coat of arms for George the Signer that appears on this page. It has a star between the top 2 lions in order to distinguish it from his predecessors.

From the same page, I would also like the coat of arms for Ross, Hugh (of Kittery, Me, 1727).

The Rossiana book about the family has more detail about the crests that go with each person.

I didn't realize that people were out there just creating coats of arms for wikipedia. It's so great that you've shared your work. Thank you. Redheadkelly (talk) 01:49, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:Coat of Arms of Nathan Hale.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Edits needed to the coat-of-arms of George Washington Parke Custis

[edit]

The current coat-of-arms for George Washington Parke Custis needs to have the tinctures edited from Or to Azure, and from Gules to Argent, according to this document from the Heraldry Society. From a tl;dnr summary of the document: "The arms come from the bookplates and other items by the Custis family, but they are actually the Parke arms, which the Custis family started using due to a name clause in a will of Gov. Daniel Parke. The tinctures of Or and Gules are speculations by Bolton (Glasshouse's source), but the paper points out that field should be Azure and eagle Argent. Even then, the arms are incorrect. The arms used by Gov. Daniel Parke were Azure an eagle argent gutty gules armed and langued or, with the crest An eagle's head erased or, spotted with ermine spots, and gorged with a mural crown sable. And even then, it's still uncertain whether Gov. Parke was entitled to these arms, since his English ancestry has not really been determined. Before assuming the Parke name and arms, the Custis family used the arms Argent a chevron between three popinjays vert beaked and membered gules; but, again, it is not known whether they were entitled to these arms, or if they simply usurped them. From a heraldic law standpoint, the Parke coat-of-arms technically shouldn't be on the profile, since the Custis family never actually legally adopted the surname Parke, so they wouldn't have inherited the Parke arms, even if the Parkes were actually entitled to use them. From a historical usage standpoint, on the other hand, it makes sense to include it with no tinctures indicated, or with the field changed to Azure, and the eagle changed to Argent." --Obversa (talk) 17:52, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm a bit concerned about your source for this coat of arms of "the Free State of Hamburg". While it seems mostly accurate, it features the latin cross which didn't exist on Hamburg imagery before the 1950's as the flag and symbolism featured the Iron cross instead until 1953. Here for example is the flag that was used during the Weimar republic and Nazi Germany: File:Kreuzer Hamburg Toppflagge.svg, this flag is backed-up by the interwar book "Flaggen Europas - Die Welt in Bildern Album 6" (released 1931) which I own. I've taken a photo of the flag here. Maybe there is conflicting information on this however I don't believe this to be the case. Even the image you replaced on Liste der Wappen in Hamburg for example was File:Wappen Deutsches Reich - Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg (Grosses).png and featured the iron cross as well. Thus I'd ask you to either provide a proper source for the usage of the latin cross or to fix the image. Thank you. --JonahF (talk) 04:39, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hohenlohe coat of arms

Schwarzburg

[edit]

Hi Glasshouse, I have two suggestion about the two coat of Arms of yors shown above:

 1. The lower part of the lady supporters looks a bit too manly, especially with the rather tender upper parts
 2. Crest and insecutcheon show a crown that follows the design of the dynastic Habsburg crown. I would opt for a more neutral, standard design, crown: both because of historical depictions of the armms (1), 2)) and because the imperial eagle in these arms has nothing to do with the Habsburgs but rather with a former German King among the Schwarzburg's own ancestors.

I don't feel able to implement these changes, so I'd be grateful if you could work on it!--Oudeís·talk 13:53, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Royal monograms

[edit]

Hi Glasshouse. Hope you're doing well. Since you were the person who originally created the royal monograms for William, Catherine, Harry, and Meghan, I thought it would be best to come to you with a new request. As you know with the death of Elizabeth II, William and Harry are now children of the sovereign as the sons of Charles III. Which means that the coronet they and their wives use on their coats of arms and monograms has changed (an example of this new coronet would be the one used for Princess Anne's monogram). The necessary changes have been implement on the files that depict their coats of arms, but no one has fixed the monograms as of yet. So I thought the most reasonable course of action would be to bring it to your attention. Please feel free to make the adjustments whenever you like. I was also thinking that maybe instead of updating the current files, you could upload the new monograms separately, to keep a clear record of changes. The same thing has been done for their coats of arms. Cheers. Keivan.fTalk 20:55, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Baker's_San_Felipe_Flag.svg

[edit]

Hello... your image Baker's_San_Felipe_Flag.svg is inaccurate. This design is based on someone having read a description of the flag without having seen it. Unfortunately it has been perpetuated for decades. The Baker flag was based on a design that Stephen F. Austin drew himself that can be found in the Texas State Archives here: 16. Austin drew the design another time, but Wharton and Archer added terrible suggestions on top of it, which can be seen here: 17 The Texas Historical Commission has an example on their webpage here: 18, even though it is not the same number of stripes or the same dimensions as Austin's own hand-drawn designs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Coronel Tejano (talk • contribs) 23:08, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Glasshouse. I am elated you possess both the initiative and artistic talent to authentically recreate Gabriel Johnston's personal arms. The 18th-century original (a derivative of his Scottish forebears) was designed in Scotland between his appointment and setting sail.

While your version is a superb recreation, there might be a slight addition for you to consider. If I am not mistaken, a crescent moon was integral to the original (See File:Gabriel Johnston’s bookplate.png). Again, great job! Lieutcoluseng (talk) 01:36, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I double checked the blazons as published in "American Heraldica", "Crozier's General Armory", "Bolton's American Armory", "A Roll of Arms" and the American Heraldry Society but none of them mention a crescent. Glasshouse (talk) 02:24, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Graphics Lab request regarding the Texas Centennial Flag

[edit]

@Glasshouse: Hello. Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if I could draw your attention to a certain request of mine in the Wikimedia Graphics Lab, specifically this one here. As you can see, it involves making changes to the coat of arms on the existing File for the Texas Centennial Flag of 1936. Given that you've done a lot of work on Files related to both general heraldry and Texan vexillology, I thought this particular request may be of interest to you. Thoughts? @Glasshouse: Nice work, thanks! Although is there any chance that the number of stars on the U.S. flag could be increased from 28 to 48? And maybe the eagle on the Mexican flag could be modified in such a way that it's head is looking downwards instead of upwards? Sorry about this. William's monogram

[edit]

Hello Glasshouse. I just noticed that Prince William's monogram has been deleted from the Commons, however, other royal monograms still remain on the website. I'm not sure on what basis the file was deleted because there have been no issues with other monograms or coats of arms thus far. Is it possible for you to recreate it at some point with the appropriate license tag? Let me know what your answer is. Keivan.fTalk 13:17, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Crown of the Second Bulgarian Tsardom

[edit]

Hey, I’ve seen your work, and I really liked it, would you mind if you do a good drawing of the medieval crown of Bulgaria, there are plenty of photos of a reconstruction made recently, it is of big importance of the Bulgarians to have a visualization of what our history was, and what better than showing a good drawing of our medieval crown! Thank you, and I hope you read it!!! 2A0C:5A84:3706:A800:F449:23F5:408E:148D 15:41, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Glasshouse, your image file:Texas State Guard Service Medal..svg shows the stripes to be too thin. JFTX 1-07 says that the stripes are 3/32 inch wide each. John Trumbull

[edit]

Hello! Questions for you: I saw the coat of arms on the John Trumbull article and that it is sourced to something called the American Heraldic Society. Is that a hobbyist organization or an academic association or...? The link from Commons to the website didn't have any specific information about Trumbull? What evidence do we have that this is Trumbull's "coat of arms" and more importantly that he used it and claimed it in his lifetime?
