You Are My California Sunshine

Hello friends~  Our sweet little granddaughter in California is celebrating her first birthday today and we are here in sunny California, celebrating with her!  I thought I'd share the card I made for her and a few photo's of her at the end.

If this card looks familiar, it's because I used the same technique for Mr. C's birthday card back in September.

I love getting inspiration for cards from their children's books.  The sun pops up from behind the panel, just like in the pop-up book.

The cutie giraffe from Marianne Designs fits my little Sweet "P" to a "T"!

The pop-up part of the card has sunshine and clouds that are super old dies, but timeless in style.  I stamped a smiley face onto the sunshine using a stamp from Peachy Keen Stamps, adding some copic and white gel pen details.  There's a large vellum cloud and some smaller white puffy clouds.

I just love the cheerful raspberry colors and how they contrast with the giraffe.  To me, it's very story-book-ish.

Here's a picture of my Sweet "P" when she was first born.

And here she is today in all her sweetness!

Here she is with my son:

and with her mom, my beautiful daughter in-love:

I just love kissing those kissable cheeks!!  I know time is going to whiz by way too quickly and soon we'll be home again.  But, joy of all joys!  They'll be home to spend Christmas with us in just 9 days, so I might be MIA in blogland until the new year.

Warmest Wishes Birdhouse Pop-up ~ Poppystamps

Hello friends ~  Cardinals are beautiful birds, don't you think?  I'm an avid back yard bird watcher and I feed the birds year round, along with all the chipmunks and squirrels that help themselves to the black oil sunflower seeds we offer.

The Bird House Pop Up Easel Die Set from Poppystamps is the focus of my project today.  I've paired it with some flowers from the Potpourri Flower Set.

Let's get started.
First off, you'll have to cut two of the base  shapes.

These will get glued together on the little scored flaps, on the short side.  This is the base of your easel pop up.  This step is so easy!  And now for the fun part...  Decorating it!

The cardinal and the pine sprigs are all included in this set.  I cut mine out of white cardstock and colored them using Copic markers.

I also cut out four different colors of flowers using the Potpourri Flower Set.

I cut the front frame of the birdhouse out of light blue cardstock and glued  the card the layers together.  Once all the cutting and coloring were done, it was time to decorate, popping flowers in here and there, and a few were popped up using foam dots.

I cut another layer of the same blue cardstock, using the birdhouse frame, for the inside of the card.  The sentiment is stamped using Gilded Christmas Wishes and cut using Colwell Label Set.  I chose this sentiment because I thought it would also work well as a birthday greeting.  This is a great way to extend the use of your Christmas greetings.

I finished the centers of each flower using Autumn Fairy Jewels.  These self adhesive jewels come in just about every color!

You Are My Sunshine

Hello friends ~ My sweet little grandson recently celebrated his first birthday, so I thought I'd share the pop-up card I made for him.

I was inspired by one of the pop-up books he has called Peek A Boo Sunshine.

One of the pages has a smiling sunshine that slides up out of the page.  I wanted to create my own idea of that, using this darling Lion die from Marianne Designs.

The lions head is attached to an action wobbler, so his little head wobbles back and forth.

I made a few mistake here and there but overall, I'm happy with the way it came out.

Here's a picture of our little "C" when he was born:

And here he is today!

The little doll is the size that he was when he was born.  He weighed just over 2 pounds.
He's now a strapping 12 pounds
and doing big boy things.

I'll be adding this card to the following challenges:
Word Art Wednesday ~ Anything Goes
The Sisterhood of Crafters ~ Die Cuts / Anything Goes

Dinosaur Birthday Box Card

Hey friends~  I have a fun box card today, that I made for one of my great little nieces, who currently loves dinosaurs.

I was inspired by my creative friend Lena of Lena's Creations card that you can find HERE.  I set out to recreate a card that was very similar to hers, but as you can see, it turned out completely different.

To start with, I didn't have the same T-Rex dinosaur that Lena had, but I had this dinosaur die from Marianne Designs.  Lena's background was a combination of Silhouette cut files, which I could have purchased, but as I was contemplating the project, I decided to make my own box card using the dies I already had on hand.

There's space on the back of the card, where I'll write our birthday wish for my sweet little 5 year old great niece.

The mushrooms are from Sizzix designed by Tim Holtz.  To my shame, I've had these for well over a year and have never used them.  I was delighted to discover that the elongated Happy Birthday die cut from Spellbinders fit perfectly onto the front of the card.

I just love how we can be inspired by each other and once creativity takes a hold, our projects are the same but different.  I do hope you'll pop over to Lena's blog and have a look at her amazing project.

Holy Night Pop Up Box Card~ Spellbinders Christmas Traditions

Hello friends~  I'm back today with a box card I made using Spellbinders Three Kings Clear Stamp Set from the Christmas Traditions release.
This set includes 8 stamps, 6 images and 2 sentiments.  It is as timeless as it is beautiful.

I stamped each of the images from the Three Kings stamp set onto 80# Neenah Solar White cardstock and cut them out using my Brother Scan N' Cut machine.

I used the FSJ Scalloped Pop Up Box die from Spellbinders to create a scene of the most holy of Holy Nights, so many years ago.  The reason we celebrate this beautiful holiday season.

I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set and embellished the front of the box with a few flowers from Wagon Full of Fall from the Happy Harvest Collection to finish it off.

Here's a list of products I used that can be found at Spellbinders.
