I took the dogs to the beach early on. I’d run out of metformin so I collected some from a friend soon after, then bought Roger and Mary a cheesy bacon flatbread each. I had a coffee and we listened to The Reunion on Radio four.
The Reunion is a documentary hosted by Kirsty Wark , It has a simple format , the recorded reunion of 8 individuals who at one time had a connection through some important or life changing event.
Today was a reunion of first responders ( and the relatives of civilians) all caught up in 9/11 in New York
And under Wark’s calm guidance , the experiences of that day were told with dignity and clarity.
It was such an emotional and hypnotic listen that we drove the long way home, in order to give the hour the time it deserved. I cried a few times on the journey home, a testament to the power of the spoken word
The rest of Sunday is a write off. I’m doing an overtime shift later so I will have a siesta
Weaver has the shits so I sent needs worming again which I can only do in skin drop form…another challenge in itself. 👀🐈⬛👀💨💩
The nights are drawing in, and Autumn is almost with us ….its heading towards the village apple fest, the warm hub coffee afternoons and the ponies return to the field opposite
The garden spiders will be migrating through the cracks in the cottage armor and the log burner will be lit every night…….so I will leave you with the glorious Talia Choir and their version of Viva La Vida ( my favourite singer being at 0.24 secs! )
Enjoy
Viva la Vida indeed!
ReplyDeleteThankyou for the inspiration.
Autumn is sad and joyous at the same time x
I absolutely love this song and their rendition gave me chills. Just watching her conduct does me in. Brilliance!
ReplyDeleteI am not a fall lover as it harks the coming of winter. Lots to think about too. Will need to get the furnace cleaned, the leaves and pine needles removed from the gutters and a couple of garden cleanups done before winter. I will also need to hire the window cleaner as the storms have really dirtied up my windows. I still have a couple more months till all that needs to get done. I am happy with the weather right now as I need neither air con nor furnace and that saves money. Your dogs eat a better breakfast than I eat. I hope the cat shits clear up soon, poor girl. Hugs Gigi
ReplyDeleteIf only it felt like Autumn was drawing in here in West Central TX.... Still 100 degrees F every day... mid to a little lower 70'sF at night... and yesterday and this morning almost no breeze to speak of.. You could call this Indian Summer except Summer never left to come back... been like this since mid July... I'm ready for even just a little hint of Fall... the nights are happening a little earlier i have noticed... 9/11 ..... I was working that morning at the hardware store changing prices ... someone had a radio going and we all heard the report and the world stopped... Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteA cheesy flatbread would temp me too! All your pets are so lucky to have you. JanF
ReplyDeleteGreat piece of music; loved it.
ReplyDeleteNow I want cheesy bacon flatbread!!
I love that last.paragraph
ReplyDeleteAh! It's always a joy to start the day with the Lisping Choir and they out-do themselves on Viva la Vada!
ReplyDeleteI think I could not have listened to today's Reunion as I remember that day too well. All surgical operations were cancelled at the patients' requests.
Am glad to hear that Weaver is back home and wish you well on the worming procedure.
May your sleep be restful and your extra shift be tranquil.
Hugs!
Winter is coming. The apples are turning red on the tree and all of my garden looks worn out, slowly dying off.
ReplyDeletePoor Charlie has been vomiting up large amounts of grass so he ended up with rice for supper. My rugs got washed and I'm very thankful that the spiders here don't try to get inside, although the ladybugs do.
Hope you have a good nap and a good shift.
A lovely post John
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I could listen to that 9/11 show. I was living in NYC at the time and it's not a day I ever want to remember. (But of course I do.)
ReplyDeleteSo Weaver is back home? Or is it Bun that's absent?
I love the way you say "we listened to the radio", not "I". Yes, they will have listened and possibly understood.
ReplyDeleteAutumn is creeping on now, the nights are drawing in, the mornings are a bit chillier and I hate it! The thought of those long, dark, wet and cold winter days stretching endlessly on fills me with dread. I think I'm going to hibernate!
I hope tonight's shift is uneventful and passes quickly. Glad Weaver is back in the fold, despite the runs. She knows who to come to to look after her! xx
I love that song. I hope we have a beautiful Fall. I think it is my favorite season.
ReplyDeleteAfter a hot and dry Summer, I look forward to cooler Autumn days. Today is a lovely day, sunny and cool with an early morning shower.
ReplyDeleteWeaver knows she has a good home. She's back for a while. Let's admit, she is a bit nomadic.
Susan
Another Autumn is coming... The apples are falling from the branches, so are pears... the last rose petal is fighting against the wind... surprisingly the lilac is blooming again, why? Does it want to hold the Summer for itself? The grass is high but the rain stops me from mowing it. The rain wants to defend the grass and I am the danger. The summer birds are flying away... and the cats are getting fat and fluffy. Another Autumn is coming.
ReplyDeleteA bit melancholic I am, I must say. But so the Autumn.
xxx
I love that song! Just because I want to help out: he is also seen at 2:39 and 3:31. :) You are welcome.
ReplyDeleteI am not gay, but if I were, that choir director would be my girl. Her spirit is just so vibrant and lovable. XO
Your description of autumn's approach is lovely.
ReplyDeleteYou make me want to cry. We have a heat dome sitting over us that just will not move on out of the way and autumn seems a million years away. Karma sticking up for Canada I suppose. I hear tell that she's a mean bitch.
