March (early) round-up - Mostly Epic!

 I'm a little early this month, but making hay whilst the sun shines i guess!

It's been a productive few weeks, where I've had a little spark of creativity and decided to revisit some 6mm projects I had bouncing around my brain and bits box...

I started with some Ork character stands and their gretchin body guards - a Painboy, Mekboy, Wierdboy, Runtherd and Warlord, which i had based up last year and finally decided to put paint to plastic. (At the end of the month i realised i was a few Nobz short too, so added them).

Some Goff Gutrippas followed - I just had them and fancied painting them, which is a recurring theme this month.

I (sort-of) made some squat progress, although not in the way i wanted. I still couldn't bring myself to paint the infantry, instead I knocked out a Collosus and it's recon Gyro-Copter, a Leviathan for the IG which was already thick with paint and I didn't bother stripping it, and them some kit bashed Goliath Mega Cannon.

The Cannon were inspired by a few things.

• Dog turd bag roll tubes - looked a decent size (probably a bit big in fairness!) and I had lots to hand.
• The price of the originals - some crazy scalps selling them for £15+ a model!
• The fact i don't like the originals, and felt they needed to be somewhat self-propelled to be 'realistic'
• an excuse to kitbash, and it ties in nicely with my squat lore, that my guys are closely tied to the ad-mech, sharing tech and resources, so the older STLs and vehicles have been passed on and modified

I messed around with a few configurations settling on a more compact design, mostly to make them easier to store and more robust, and I'm really happy with them.

The Poundland/Dollar-store tunneller got some paint too as a test. I have another 2 so will maybe run them as Moles to take my squat warriors into combat.

The green imperial Knight Palladin Household were finished - after sitting base coated in my bits box for a year or so. They are rough, but passable.

The last 2 demon prince proxies from Vanguard got a lick of paint. These projects are great for a rainy mid-week lunch break effort as they (and everything this month) come together very quickly.

Lastly - more Orks! Madboyz, 3 units of them to fill up any 2nd edition army free support slots. Had to be done!

On to April now - Squats! Bikers, Infantry, Light artillery and then we are done.

Bolt action - finish the Volksstrum.

Maybe some more kitbashing... We'll see.

July/A bit of August Roundup

Very little progress hobby wise. The weather has been great so spent most if it outside and the times when the pang to hobby has hit, it's been too hot in my office.

I managed to get a wee terrain piece, a couple of Gargants, and some Chaos stuff for an upcoming battle painted, including some rather weird Slaanesh Knights that came out of necessity and what was to hand;

some 28mm Dark Eldar legs, heads and weapons, and for a couple of hours cutting, gluing and painting, they turned out just fine (i think!).

Other than that, I picked up some Rogue Trader IG stuff randomly, and have some actual games planned.

Next up - The ever looming Squats... Maybe this month will the time for them to be painted? 

Back to the little guys - Epic

 After a nice wee break painting 28mm for Bolt Action, I decided to crack open the box of shame and fished out the remainder of the order I made to Vanguard back in June.

3 not-sicarian battle tanks, 1 not-fellblade, some daemon princes and some not-knight errants.

I wanted to make the 30k tanks part of my Iron Warriors army, however I feel that black/silver paint scheme is tough to make look interesting at this scale, unless I can learn non-metallic metal painting somehow.

So instead I went with a bit more of a eye-popping teal/turquoise colour that I've became fond of recently, mixing in some green/grey.

I also decided to heavily weather them, partly to tone down the bright colour, and also to make them look ancient and war torn.

I really like the effect for how simple it was, and I'm now sorely tempted to do a whole 30k army like this.

The Daemon Princes were done as one for each of the major powers and require a bit of tidying up/detailing, as do the Knights, which will be added to my Mars AdMech forces eventually.

Frostgrave - Strange times

Its fair to say times are a bit strange at the moment.

Many hobbyists are thriving with extra time at home to focus on projects. 

Oddly, i'm busier than ever at work, so i'm really having to force myself to take some time to do a bit of hobby time.

My office space is also my hobby room, so it's difficult to form barriers but i realise that i'm lucky have the space, and indeed a job at the moment, so mustn't grumble!

Despite all my efforts to 'minimise' my library of games, and my collection of models and terrain, i have slipped a little!

And by a little, i mean I've jumped head first into Frostgrave and Ghost Archipelago, my justification being that i already had the rule book, some minis and some terrain, so might as well flesh it out to have enough to play with.

I picked up a bunch of the official Northstar sprues for minis, as well as some Wargames Atlantic skeletons, and various other toys for creatures, none of this broke the bank, which was nice. I also made some terrain for specific scenarios, but where i splurged was on a new game mat and some resin pre-painted terrain from gamemat.eu. On the face of it, an expensive and unnecessary addition to my already bulging shelves, but i blame boredom!

It's fair to say our X-Wing campaign is on hiatus at the moment, so i'm tentatively looking at getting the other half involved in some Frostgrave, which partially justifies my recent efforts :)

In addition i'll dump some photos below of everything since my last post, which isn't much!

Starting with some 'baddies' or wandering monsters, and even some epic too, just to keep on-brand with the blog!

Adeptus Titanicus - Lancers, Jungle Terrain and more!

Hello all!

5 months between posts isn't great, but i've not been doing much hobbying this year.
I've played a few games of Strontium Dog, and had a couple of board games nights, but aside from that - nada!

The sum total of my painting/building efforts are below;

Last week i took the notion to dust off the brushes and finally paint the last of my AT'18 stuff. I bought the Knight Lancers on the day of release and they have sat on the sprue until now. I blasted through assembly, paint and basing over the course of the day and it did re-kindle my passion slightly. Also, the models themselves are great, which helps a lot with the inspiration!

I also had the notion to make a tables worth of jungle terrain using aquarium plants, which could have pieces to fit various scales, and its all in a bid to reduce my terrain amount overall, and have more generic pieces that fit any scale. That's the plan at least. For the moment all i have is more terrain than before!

As well as this i'll dump photos of my other efforts from the beginning of the year - including a Tau Devilfish and the start of a fully painted Space Crusade box (which i seem to be missing the more up to date photos, its probably 70% done).
