Not Enough Shelves!

Apparently, there are a few people in the world who think that some of us have too many books?! This is an understandable error, but in fact, as Mr. Bear points out, the actual problem is NOT ENOUGH SHELVES! For this card, the shelves were created by neatly lining up strips of Eyelet Outlet Book Tape. The computer generated sentiment (created with a free font called Bohemian Typewriter) leaves room for a trio of Book Brads and is matted on a panel of Wood TapeCactus and Heart Brads add extra texture and interest to this cozy little scene.

Here's a Handy Shopping List featuring all the items used to create this card:

Let's Read

I am addicted to books and always have been. So I loved the fact that the
Eyelet Outlet not only had book brads but book washi tape. It was so fun to
create this book card that was colored in Copic Markers.

The image is from Hetty Claire and is called "The Big Read."
I thought it was perfect for this card.

Finally, I addicted some bling jewel strips that
I love from Eyelet Outlet and are so easy to apply.

Here is your shopping list from Eyelet Outlet

See you again next Monday with a new project.

KOALA-tee Reading Time

Here is my (Lauren's) ideal day off scenario, in card form: I'm reading, surrounded by books, with a friend or two for company! In this case the books are Eyelet Outlet Book Brads and Book Tape, the friends are a Koala Brad and a Mini Ladybug, there's a Telephone Brad in case I feel like chatting, and some Rose Brads for extra color and inspiration. I've also used Wood Washi to construct the bookshelves and Text Tape as a background.

What does YOUR ideal day off look like? Because whatever it is, I bet Eyelet Outlet has brad and tape styles that would help you recreate it in card form!

is almost always thinking about what to read next!

"Happiness is...

...a cup of coffee and a good book". Or, as I (Lauren) have interpreted it in this wish-fulfilling card, happiness is a pot of coffee, a room full of books and a few close friends! I made this fun scene using Eyelet Outlet Book TapeBook Brads and Coffee Brads, and populated it with adorable characters from Waffle Flower Crafts' Books and Coffee stamp set.

I did all my stamping on watercolor paper and colored with Tombow Dualbrush Pens with Prismacolor Pencil shading. I was a little disappointed that Bear's glasses were just a tiny bit too big to work with our Eye Glass Brads; but I was able to add a Heart Brad to the cover of the bear's book, swap the large stack of books that the bird is sitting on for two colorful Book Brads, replace the potted cactus with a yellow lotus flower from the Frog Brad Set and add a Coffee Brad and Funky Bee to the foreground.

I made the "Library" by affixing strips of EO Book Tape to a panel of plain white cardstock and adding a strip of skinny tape under each to work as shelves. I made a table from Hardwood Floor Tape (it's out of stock now, but we still have some great Wood Tapes); assembled the entire thing, added the fun sentiment (framed with ancient nested dies) and matted the panel on Foil Copper Tape before adding it to the front of my white A6 card.

Of course, you could make a room setting for pretty much any character stamp you own, with just some Washi Tape as wallpaper (we have pretty much every style you could imagine!) and Eyelet Outlet Brad accessories; I hope you'll be inspired to create your own interiors!

is still the world's
sloooooooowest colorer...

Dinosaur Bookmark

Have you seen Eyelet Outlet's new dinosaur brads?  They're so fun!  There's three different ones in the set.  Last week I showed you the T-Rex and today I've got a bookmark for you featuring the brontosaurus and the triceratops from the set.

I've also paired them with one of our palm tree brads.  At the bottom of the book mark I've used a strip of our popular book washi tape.  I'm sure this fun little bookmark will make your reader smile, so I hope you pick up some our new dinosaur brads and give this project a try.

School Days, School Days

It's that time of year, when the kiddos --and the teachers!-- in our lives are headed back to school. So I (Lauren) rounded up some of my favorite Eyelet Outlet goodies, including our fab new School Bus Brads, and made a couple of cards to cheer them on!

My first card was a happy accident. I had these fun Bella Boulevard chalk-board style papers, and I went looking in my washi stash for a school-themed tape to pair with them. It turns out I had quiiiiiite a few choices, lol. It was hard to decide, so I used ALL OF THEM! Heart TapeBook TapeRoad TapeMath TapeSkinny StripesTape Measure TapeSmiley FacesSkinny HeartsCrayon Tape and Skinny Plaid to be precise. Then I scattered matching brads around the card, including Emotion BradsStar BradsBus Brads, and Book Brads.

My second card has a bit less going on, lol. I've got an Apple Brad, an Eye Glass Brad, a Bus Brad driving along on Road Tape of course, and the bunting which comes in the same set of Skinny Tape as the rainbow stripes on the last card.

And since that concludes my post for today, class is dismissed! ♥

graduated quite a few years ago, but still
longs for new school supplies in September.

Book 'Em!

I (Lauren) recently enjoyed "The Library Book" by Susan Orlean and it inspired me to get out my Eyelet Outlet Book Brads --and Book Tape-- to make some fun cards!

I love that the packets of Book Brads contain both colorful books and more neutral ones.I used five of the colorful ones for my first card, and went vertical with them... to make a whole entire shelf of books. I attached my computer generated sentiment (the free font is called "Bohemian Typewriter") to a fun yellow reproduction library catalog card, added some red Heart Enamels and placed the whole thing on a background of texty patterned paper adorned with Heart WashiStar Tape and some Skinny Washi strips.

The sentiment on my second card is one I saw on a t-shirt in a book lover's catalog some months ago, and wrote down in my ideas notebook. I printed it on a clear ink jet label in a free font called "Beach Condensed" and affixed it to another faux library card. This time I used our beautiful Book Tape as an accent on both the sentiment card and the background, added just one stack of neutral Book Brads and a single Heart Enamel.

It just goes to show that time spent reading OR crafting is NEVER wasted! ♥

loves actual books
as much as Book Brads!

Easy Thank You Cards - Version 2

In December 2016, I found a package of Thank You Cards in the $1.50 bin at Michael's and had fun decorating them with Eyelet Outlet Products.

This year, I found a slightly different thank you card design in the same $1.50 bin, so I thought it would be fun to revisit the technique.

It is so easy to use Eyelet Outlet Washi Tape & Brads to turn something pre-made into something extra-special.  However, these same techniques would also work perfectly with a simple stamped sentiment design (or even sticker sentiments).

This year's Thank You Card design worked particularly well with the Wide Washi Tapes.

The Wide Postage Washi Tape paired perfectly with the little Mail Box Brad for sending a thank you across the miles.

Bicycles with Baskets of Flowers can have you dreaming of Spring.

And as our friends from Portlandia would say ... you can always *put a bird on it* with the Wide Bird Washi Tape (the colors are so vibrant).

The Wide Bird Washi Tape tape has so many birds, I was able to make a second ... and add a Cardinal Brad for some company.

A Thank You Card for your favorite Bibliophile with Wide Glitter Book Washi Tape & a Stack of Books Brad.

It's not too soon to start thinking about Easter ... how fun is this Wide Happy Easter Washi Tape ... especially with that sweet little Bunny Rabbit Brad.

And Skinny Glitter Washi Tape adds the perfect frame to the adorable VW Washi Tape.

I hope I've given you lots of fun ideas for making your own set of Thank You cards (they make fabulous gifts).

Wide Washi Wonderful

I recently discovered wide washi tape ... and I'm in love.

How fun is this great Happy Easter Wide Washi Tape design.

The Easter Eggs (soon to be Easter Chicks) are wishing you a Happy Easter.

I want to cover every surface in my studio with this Wide Glitter Book Washi Tape ... it has an absolutely gorgeous sparkle (with no glittery mess).

I used a tall & thin card design (4" x 7 1/2") to create my book shelf ... attaching the tape to green cardstock created a depth of color behind the books.

And of course, no library is complete without a stack of books (new brads coming to the store soon) and a cup of coffee (or in my case, Chai).  Sentiment is from STAMPlorations Literary Caffeine-ations.

Outside of a Dog...

My favorite Groucho Marx quote is, "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read" and when I (Lauren) saw the brand new, soon-to-be-released, Eyelet Outlet Book Brads, I knew immediately I wanted to make a card which said that. So I did:

My favorite thing about the Book Brads is that they coordinate realllllly well with the Book Washi Tape, so I wanted to use both products together. Of course, my lovely design team sister, Stephanie, recently made her own patterned paper using that same tape, so I had to think of an interesting variation. I decided to do a herringbone pattern. Which sounds a little fussy, but thanks to the strong vertical lines of the books, it was easy to trim the tape perfectly straight with a snip of the scissors. So I had the whole background covered in a jiffy.

Another thing I love about the Book Brads is that each package contains the same pile of books in two different colorways: a sort of neutral tan, as well as bright primary colors. It turns out they both look really nice with the tape, though. So I decided to make a bookmark, too.

All I had to do was adjust the shape of my computer generated text (the font is Comic Sans) and reprint. Since the size and shape was much more compact, I left off the Skinny Washi Tape4mm Summer Brads and Groucho-style Eye Glass Brads that I used on the card.

What's *YOUR* favorite quote? Because I'll bet you anything that there are brads in the Eyelet Outlet store that could help you illustrate it! ♥

loves brads, books, and blog visitors!

Washi Washi Wonderful

If you have some Eyelet Outlet Washi Tape, you're just minutes away from making your own custom background papers.

I start with scraps of paper (in this case, ivory cardstock) and cover it with rows of washi (vertical, horizontal, diagonal ... your choice) starting in the middle and moving outward alternating sides.

I use my non-stick sheet and extend the tape beyond the scrap so I can trim the sides to get a nice even finish.

For the first card I used this adorable Cat Love Washi Tape that has a vertical design.
The tape coordinates perfectly with the Kitty Brads.

My layout features this week's CAS(E) this Sketch together with a Paper Smooches Charmed Cat Two sentiment.

The next one used Awesome Washi Tape paired with a new Water Bottle Brad.

Layout is from Can You CASE it? and stamps are from Simon Says Stamp Running with Your Heart.

And the final card features the fabulous Book Washi Tape.  When I finished covering the paper, it felt like a Harry Potter Library ... so that is the theme I used.

I cut my tape-covered paper into three equal panels using a sketch from Try Stampin' - or Not - on Tuesday.

I added a Sketched Owl Brad & Compass Brad and computer generated my sentiment.  I think it will be a great graduation card.
