Getting Messy with Faux Water Color and Embellishments!

Today, I decided to embrace my creative side and get a little messy – in the best possible way! I've always loved the soft, dreamy look of watercolors, but sometimes I just don't have the time (or the patience!) for a full-on painting session. That's where faux watercolor techniques come in handy, and I just finished a beautiful 5-inch square floral card featuring lovely roses and birds that I can't wait to share with you.

I started with a simple white card base, measuring 5 inches by 5 inches. To add an immediate touch of elegance and detail, I applied some gorgeous Flower Collage Washi Tape along all the edges. Washi tape is such a quick and easy way to elevate any paper craft project, and this particular design perfectly complemented the floral theme I had in mind. On top of that I added a colored cardstock square that slightly overlaps the inside edges of the washi tape. This gives the illusion that my border is actually an entire piece of cardstock.

Next up was creating that watercolor look without the fuss. I took a piece of watercolor paper that was slightly smaller than the colored square and stamped it with a flower stamp. Even though the stamp was quite big, I only used a small portion of it, strategically stamping just along the edges. This created a lovely floral border, leaving the middle of the card open.

To create the watercolor look, I used pink oxide ink. The key here is to water it down significantly. I just added a few drops of water to a small pool of ink, mixing it until it reached a consistency similar to actual watercolor paint. Then, I loosely applied this diluted ink directly onto the flower areas of my stamped image. The goal isn't perfection; it's to get that soft, diffused look that watercolors are known for.

I always find that when I'm working with diluted ink, I tend to have a little left over. Instead of letting it go to waste, I decided to splatter some of it all over the panel. This created tiny, delicate flecks that mimic the natural unpredictability of watercolors. It's a fantastic way to fill in some of the white space and tie the whole design together.

After creating the beautiful faux watercolor panel, it was time to bring in the sentiment and some delightful embellishments to really make the card pop!

I started by cutting out a scalloped oval from cardstock that perfectly matched the tones of the card. To give it an extra touch of elegance, I then cut another, slightly smaller scalloped oval from creamy shimmer cardstock. This layering adds such a nice depth to the sentiment area.

Next, I stamped my chosen sentiment onto the creamy oval. To complement the bird and floral theme, I chose a charming Robin Brad and a Bluebird Brad, along with a lovely Pink Rose Brad. Brads are fantastic for adding dimension and a bit of shine!

To fill in any blank spaces and introduce even more sparkle, I placed three Glitter Enamel Dots in shades of pink, red, and silver. These little details catch the light beautifully and tie all the elements together.

Once all the embellishments were in place, I applied foam tape to the back of creamy oval. This lifted it slightly, creating a wonderful shadow effect when adhered to the larger scalloped oval. Finally, I glued this entire layered, embellished piece onto the center of my watercolor panel.

Washi Tape Magic! Creating a Unique Birthday Card

Today, I'm excited to share a cheerful birthday card that truly shines, all thanks to some clever use of Eyelet Outlet's fantastic washi tapes! I dug into my stash and pulled out a versatile die that cuts both a frame and coordinating inner panels – perfect for showcasing these fun patterns.

First, for the striking frame, I used Foil Washi Tape - Silver Stars Tape. The trick here is to lay strips of the washi tape onto white cardstock before running it through the die. The result? A perfectly shimmering silver frame with crisp white stars that truly pops!

Next, I tackled the inner panels with the same technique. For the larger sections, I covered white cardstock with strips of the lovely Flower Washi and Strawberry Washi. The bright red and white polka dot panels were created in the exact same way, using the adorable Red/White Dot Washi Tape. This method allows you to transform plain cardstock into custom patterned paper, giving your project a truly unique look.

Since this is a birthday celebration, I cut a "Happy Birthday" sentiment from cardstock and added two elegant Rose Brads on each end as a delightful accent. To complete the festive scene, I cut a simple circle and adorned it with three bright Balloon Brads. I used green and yellow baker's twine to create "strings" for each balloon, running them behind the birthday sentiment. A small green and white ribbon bow at the base of the strings added a final touch of charm.

This card was incredibly fun to make, proving how you can use a basic die and washi tapes to achieve a genuinely one-of-a-kind result. I highly encourage you to give this technique a try! Eyelet Outlet boasts hundreds of washi tape patterns, so I'm confident you'll find the perfect design to fit any theme you can imagine and the perfect brads to go along with it.

Roses in Bloom

There are few Spring sights prettier than roses, in full bloom, climbing up a trellis. If they're Eyelet Outlet Rose Brads and Yellow Rose Brads, climbing up a cardstock trellis, they are every bit as beautiful, far more mail-able, and completely non-allergenic! With extra wide Sky Washi and Brick Tape creating the background and green Leaf Brads clustered among the blooms, it's no wonder that some Mini Butterfly Brads have gathered to enjoy the scene.

Rejoice

Happy Easter to all those out there that celebrate it! My card today celebrates this most important day in the Christian calendar.

To make this A2 sized card, I first applied Egg Washi Tape on the edges of a white card base. I embossed blue cardstock with a floral pattern and die cut the two small and one large cross. I arranged them on the panel after I applied glimmer powder to parts of the flower. I also heat embossed the sentiment and cut it in an oval shape with a scalloped border.

Now all was ready to add the EO goodness! I arranged Rose and Yellow Rose Brads on the cross to create a pretty floral cluster. Below, I arranged Rabbit, Colored Eggs and Chick Brads. I tucked the sentiment in and the end result is a pretty and peaceful card to celebrate Easter.

Some Bunny Loves You!

There's only a few more days until Valentine's Day! It's hard to believe. It always comes and goes faster than any of the other holidays to me.

To celebrate, I have a cute little bunny with an apron full of items and a cute mailbox stuffed with gifts and goodies. To make this one, I glued a piece of sky patterned paper on a white A2 card. Then I cut two pieces of grass out and layered them below the sky. I stamped and colored the bunny and the mailbox and glued them in place. Then I attached all the fun brads that makes this have such a great 3D presence. It's so much better than the little images that came with the stamp set. Brads add shine and dimension that just can't be replicated any other way.

Remember that a card like this could be tweaked a little to make it perfect for Easter also. Just add a few egg brads, a chick brad or two, and change the sentiment and you've got a great Easter themed card. And speaking of Easter, I better get busy on those cards next!

You're So Tweet!

Hello EO fans! I guess I already have Valentine's Day in my thoughts because I decided I just had to make today's card that is full of hearts and "tweet" thoughts. What a bird brain! Ha, ha, ha. This is a 6 x 6 card. I began by stenciling a square piece of white cardstock with three Oxide inks so that the starburst radiates out of the center from dark to light. I colored and cut out the mailbox and the main sentiment and glued it in the center.

Then came all the embellishments that really gives this card life. First I used Sparkle Gold Glitter Washi Tape for the edges of the card. Then I put the starburst panel on and added Heart Enamel Shapes, Rose Brads, Leaf Brads, Mail Brads, and Bluebird & Robin Brads. Last I added three Heart Brads. Loving how this card is so fresh and makes me think of spring. I can almost smell those roses can't you?

April Calendar Planning!

"If April showers should come your way, they bring the flowers that bloom in May." - Buddy De Sylva

I am sharing my April 2024 Calendar layout today in hopes of inspiring you to stay more organized throughout the year! I wanted to keep with the theme of "April showers bring May flowers", so I added stamps that go along with that theme! A little gal with an umbrella, some raindrops, an adorable duck and rain boots were just the perfect match!

Next, I gathered my Eyelet Outlet supplies and embellished my heart away! I added the green grass washi to anchor the bottom of my pages. I added paper flowers in yellow and white with a purple brad to my top left of my page. Brads of rainboots, daisies, roses, dragonflies, butterflies seemed like just the perfect finish! The beauty of spring is magical and I loved adding these touches to my layout!

I hope this inspires you to stay on track in organization and paper planning in 2024! Thank you so much for stopping by! Don't forget to shop at Eyelet Outlet for all your crafting needs!

Happy Easter Greetings!

I love Easter and the coming of spring! I enjoyed creating a vintage, shabby chic inspired Easter card for a different take on the traditional Easter colors!

I created my background using 2 different washi tapes. One is a beautiful wide, rose, vintage-style washi and the other is a new favorite of mine, the gold script. I stamped my Happy Easter greeting and added 2 bunnies with pearl jewels for eyes. Lastly, I embellished with Easter egg brads and rose brads. I think this card has a vintage and elegant feel, yet it is simple in style and easy to replicate! I hope you enjoy!

Valentine Postage Collage

I just love the versatility of Eyelet Outlet products and was exited to create a wintery Valentine themed postage collage! In staying with a winter theme, I used the snowman couple brads as my focus and added white glitter washi tape for snow and a red enamel heart. Next, I stamped "you melt my heart" sentiment as well as some script, postage lines, and hearts.

I filled in my other postage stamp spaces with Happy Valentine's Day glitter washi, wintery glitter tall tree washi tape, and vintage washi tape! I added a few red rose brads to finish off my card!

And since I was having so much fun! I decided to decorate my envelope too! I added the skinny red and white washi tape and some Valentine themed stamps to finish off my project! I hope you enjoy! What a fun way to play with a variety of Eyelet Outlet washi tapes, brads and more!

Salt Shaker Floral Arrangement

Ok…so I know Christmas was only a month ago, but Valentine’s Day will be here before we know it. I'm sure a lot of you are like me and love getting and giving flowers but they are just so expensive and they only last a week or so. It's always sad when they wilt and I have to pitch them in the trash. Kinda depressing, if you ask me.

I created the perfect flower arrangement that not only cost waaaay less than real flowers, these ones will last forever! No more having to pitch dead daffodils, lackluster lilies, raunchy roses or mushy marigolds (that was fun...lol 😊).

I shopped my house for the things I needed to make this like some paper straws, floral wire, heart shaped confetti and misc. buttons.  You know the ones that you keep…just in case. The only thing I didn’t have was a salt shaker so I headed to the Dollar store and grabbed one. You’d be surprised at how many fun things you can find if you shop your house.

This was such an easy project to do and didn’t require me to shop all the craft stores for supplies. With some of Eyelet Outlets love themed brads and bling, I had everything I needed. I ended up using several different colored hearts from the Heart Brads and two beautiful pink and red Rose Brads. To add sparkle, and you know I Iove me some sparkle, I added a Hot Pink Pearl Brad, a Red 12mm Jewel Brad, and two red Stippled Brads (12mm and 16mm).

So, if you feel like mixing it up a bit this Valentine’s Day, make your own flower arrangement. With embellishments from EO and a few things laying around your house, you can create this too!  I mean, who wouldn’t smile ear to ear if they received this?!?!?

Have a wonderful week and always be STRATE-UP CRAFTY!
