fanfiction.lol: a small, independent archive of fanworks and original works
165 fandoms | 240 users | 265 works
meant to be fun! spread joy, be excellent to each other,
and express yourself creatively!
hi, i'm Brennan (he/they), i'm Indigenous (Red River Métis) and Queer, and i created fanfiction.lol because i'm a webdev that loves writing. i wanted a website that focuses on the joy and positivity of fandom and transformative works like fanfiction, so i made it!
if you're new to fandom, or writing in general, fanfiction.lol is a great place to start! we're a low-stakes, low-stress website. we believe any and all fandoms, ships, and writing quality are valid, and all deserve a place to call home. we're here to centre marginalized voices and identities that can go underrepresented in fandom, and we will meet you where you are.
this project is a labour of love, and we operate with good faith. if you mess up, that's okay! because we will too—we're new to running a fandom site ourselves! we will always assume the best in people, and try our best in return. you can email me, Brennan, at [email protected] with any comments or concerns, or send anonymous asks to our Tumblr for updates and questions.
note: although this website is a fork of Archive of Our Own, we operate differently in several important ways. Our tagging system is different, and we have expanded archive warnings to help readers better filter work and additional relationship types to help writers feel more represented and validated.
please read our ToS, content policy, and privacy policy for more details.

We have a few new updates on the tagging system! These differences are more subjective, and depend more on the content of the works, so it's highly encouraged to tag your fics accordingly for accurate filtering. As is our standard policy, you are not required to use archive formatting, but it is still highly encouraged to make your tags clear enough that they can be sorted according to the guidelines.

One of the main ways that we intend for this system to differ from Ao3's is in ambiguous tags. Specifically, we don't want to have any.

Hi! This is Jar, head wrangler. My username on here is dyke if you ever need to reach me btw. Anyway, due to Ao3 having a tagging system that allows things such as long-form freeforms and has a very generalized view of what tags will be accepted, while I'm putting this in the FAQ as well, I wanted to make a news post to make sure everyone understands how tagging works, how it differs from Ao3, and what to expect.
