Diversity Statement
fanfiction.lol is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming space for all creators and readers. We believe that fanworks are transformative and that transformative works are legitimate.
Our Commitment
We strive to build an archive that:
- Welcomes creators from all backgrounds, identities, and experiences
- Centers marginalized voices and stories
- Provides tools for content warnings that recognize systemic oppression, colonialism, ableism, queerphobia, and racism
- Supports creative expression without unnecessary restrictions
- Maintains a safe environment for all users
Content Warnings
We've expanded our archive warning system beyond traditional AO3 warnings to include content warnings for:
- Systemic Oppression
- Colonialism
- Ableism
- Queerphobia
- Racism
- Real Person Fiction (RPF)
These warnings help readers make informed choices about what they consume while acknowledging that these themes are important to many creators and readers.
Inclusive Community
We welcome fan fiction in any fandom, original fiction, multimedia fanworks, explicit content, dark themes, difficult subjects, and morally complex work. We are not interested in policing what you write creatively.
Fiction is fiction. We trust you to use the warnings system appropriately and to respect the boundaries of other community members.
Reporting Issues
If you experience harassment, discrimination, or other harmful behavior on this archive, please report it. We take these reports seriously and will address them appropriately.
Continuous Improvement
We recognize that diversity and inclusion are ongoing processes. We welcome feedback on how we can make this archive more welcoming and accessible. If you have suggestions or concerns, please contact us.
Independence
fanfiction.lol is an independent project and is not affiliated with the Organization for Transformative Works or Archive of Our Own. We run on the open-source otwarchive codebase, licensed GPL-2.0-or-later.
We believe in building alternatives to corporate-controlled platforms and supporting independent creators and small archives.
This diversity statement is a living document and may be updated as we grow and learn.
